Actress Gwyneth Paltrow, spokesmodel for Estee Lauder’s Pure White Linen Pink Coral fragrance
I’m *so not* an OG Estee Lauder White Linen kinda girl.
I know it’s considered a classic scent and loved by millions of women, but it always seemed too formal and kinda old lady overly mature to me.
That’s why I never expected to like EL’s new interpretation of the fragrance, Pure White Linen Pink Coral ($40).
The Bulgarian rose in the OG White Linen scent makes me think back to being a kid at family parties. My mom would always make me do my rounds, kissing cheeks on all of my aunties and grandmas. I could almost see the air around them. It was thick, and it smelled just like White Linen and fried fish (a fragrance common to Filipino get togethers, LOL!).
But EL lightened up with Pure White Linen Pink Coral. She’s fresher (so fresh!) than her older sister (the original White Linen) and more my cup of tea.
Pure White Linen Pink Coral joins Pure White Linen (a fruity floral with notes of orange and raspberry) and Pure White Linen Light Breeze (a citrus with grapefruit and Italian Bergamot), two other interpretations of the original White Linen fragrance.
The scent
Pure White Linen Pink Coral starts off with a burst of fresh cut green apple slices and crushed jasmine petals.
At first whiff I get a picture of a summer seaside wedding. The bride and her bridesmaids are standing with their bouquets held low, waiting for their cue to walk barefoot down a sandy aisle strewn with flower petals — casual, light and hopeful. 🙂
A short time later (about 30 minutes), Pure White Linen Pink Coral’s middle notes appear, and the fragrance becomes a joyful, fresh floral mix of honeysuckle, cherry blossom and sweet pea flower.
As the scent dries down over the next few hours, vanilla and sandalwood emerge — sexy but coy, like a little black dress that fits in all the right places without having to show too much skin.
I’ve been wearing the scent 24/7 for the past week and like it so much that I’m thinking about springing for the matching $40 body lotion, oy!
Officially, Estee Lauder describes Pure White Linen Pink Coral as a fresh floral with a “delicate, tender and peaceful” feeling. “It sweeps over the senses, gentle as the ocean at dawn in waves of sea-kissed Apple Blossoms, Waterfruits, Sweet Peas and Camellias blushed with Honeysuckle and Sandalwood.”
- Top notes: apple blossom, clear aldehydes, waterfruits, pink peppercorns and Chinese Berry Mist
- Middle notes: jasmine, pink peony, camellia flower, cherry blossom, sweet pea and honeysuckle
- Base notes: vanilla, heliotrope and sandalwood

You might like Estee Lauder Pure White Linen Pink Coral Fragrance if…
- …you like light but complex fragrances,
- …you like the smell of jasmine, honeysuckle and cherry blossom,
- …you’re looking for a feminine but casual fragrance, alluring but not overly sexy.
EL always *rawks* the summer fragrance department; Pure White Linen Pink Coral is the third recent Estee Lauder summer scent to catch my olfactory attention. Last year’s Private Collection Tuberose Gardenia stole my heart, and a few months ago Pleasures Baie Rose Peony Splash made a splash (ha!) with me.
I’m keeping my fingers crossed and hope they continue cranking out winners like these scents every summer. 🙂

i’ve never been a fan of the EL fragrances, with the exception of private collection tuberose gardenia.
i’ll still give it a whirl though…
some of my favorite light, fresh fragrances that you may want to give a go:
thierry mugler cologne
annick goutal chevrefeuille (honeysuckle)
hermes un jardin sur le nil/mediterrane (apres la mousson was awful for me)
clean shower fresh, original, and ultimate
issey miyake l’eau de issey
bond no. 9 park avenue

Hi Ines,
I love a few of the scents on your list: Annick Goutal, Hermes Un Jardin and the Clean scents. So light, and perfect for summer!
How are you today? Busy at work?
Glosslizard says
Ooh, that sounds amazing! I think I will grab a sample this Saturday!
I’ve been wearing EL Tuberose Gardenia lately, sometimes layered with a spritz of Jo Malone White Jasmine and Mint in an effort to channel summer!

at work… pretending to work and occasionally reading up on the beauty blogs – looking for some loot to buy, but nothing is rocking my boat yet. maybe i’ll buy the honey multi-purpose salve from the new MAC collection, to use as a lip balm/cuticle cream.
anything good to get recently?
even when it comes to fragrance, nothing has rocked my world lately, except etat libre d’orange’s rossy de palma eau de protection – it’s such a sexy, almost edibly delicious (but not foody at all – no cupcake or creme brulee here, thank goodness) rose and incense fragrance with just a touch of dirty patchouli. makes me think of the tango when i smell this one.
if you have a chance to find etat libre d’orange give it a go – it’s such an unusual line… not at all the fruit + flowers concoctions you see these days, and VERY VERY good staying power. whenver i wear rossy de palma guys stop me and ask what i’m wearing. i also like jasmin et cigarette (jasmine and cigarette) and charogne (“womanizer” – this one is for men but i wear it anyway, an amazingly powerful and sexy leather floral!).

I’m not a big “fragrance” kind of person, but I do have to say–is it just me, or is GPaltrow’s face looking seiriously YOUNG in that advertisement? Talk about photoshopping! Sheesh! She’s gorgeous without it, and this is just kinda ridiculous!

Can I just say that I totally LOL’ed at the description of “White Linen and fried fish” in this entry? HAH! You might as well have described dinner parties at my parents’ house back in the ’80s! 🙂

I might have to try this stuff, I’m running low on my homegirl perfume (aka Annik Gutal Petite Cherie, got it in Paris and adore it <3).
But, currently, I’m running around the house trying to find my angled eyebrow brush and my eyeshadow brush! I cleaned all my brushes last night, and those are missing =0! I really hope I find them, or I’m off to target to get some Sonia Kashuk replacements.
Cre says
With that introduction, I am ready to try it right now! And I’ll be sure to mention it to others.
Karen says
Hi Cre,
LOL! I was so surprised to love this scent… it certainly came out of left field. Are you an Estee Lauder fragrance fan?
Amy says
My Grandma like white linen! And I loved her dearly, but I hate the fragrance. I can smell it in my mind right now. White Linen and fried fish, cracking me up.
My very favorite summer fragrance is Aqua Di Gio. It just screams summer to me…and I ran out last summer. Must re-purchase.

LOL at the “White Linen and fried fish” :))
most of my dad’s relatives are in the States and my cousin’s American blonde boyfriend tried corned beef and he never came back for more: he said it tasted like dog food! O_O my grandma and aunt were mortified but at least they understood him.. but he can’t avoid the house smelling like dried fish and shrimp paste all day long! 😛
thanks for the review btw, Karen! 😀
