Dior Capital of Light Eyeshadow Palette #806

August 16th, 2016 by Karen 43 Comments

Dior Capital of Light Eyeshadow Palette ($63)

You can tell that your to-do list has exploded when you LOVE wearing smokey eyes — and it’s a love so massive that it makes stars collapse on themselves — but you can’t remember the last time you actually wore them.

Was it June? Wait, no — July?

I honestly can’t remember.

But I had to go there today when I opened the Dior Capital of Light Eyeshadow Palette #806.

THAT KHAKI THOUGH!

dior capital of light
Dior Capital of Light Eyeshadow Palette

It’s from the new Dior Fall 2016 Skyline collection.

But before I get to that…how’s it going? I miss you. 🙁 What’s new in your neck of the woods?

I’ve still had my face buried in that secret project I mentioned last week (was it last week?), and it’s been taking up most of my non-Connor Claire time. But now it’s almost, almost done.

Almost.

I’m putting the finishing touches on it, and I’m very excited. I’ve never done anything like it before.

But it has been taking a lot of time, so I haven’t had a lot of time left to experiment with makeup.

Except for this limited edition Dior palette, of course. I found the time for this palette. 🙂

I’m wearing a mix of the khaki shade and the gold shade on my lids with the dark purple on my lash lines as liner. And I also dabbed a tiny touch of the beige in my inner corners.

As for the price, it’s Dior, so brace yourself… It’s $63 (it’s Dior), and if you can stop your hoop earrings from quivering due to the sticker shock right now, take a second to admire the flawless Dior shimmer. I think it’s one of things the brand always does well.

The finish glows, and I think it is more of a glow than a mirror shine, and it’s not what I’d call a frost.

It’s oh-so-flattering, too. My fine lines are totally OK with it.

Seriously, even if you don’t think you can pull off shimmer (which is how I feel about most frosty high-shine finishes), these shadows are SO doable.

The only one that might be a little dicy is the lightest beige, which I think is closer to a typical frost than the four other shades. But if you keep it tucked tightly into the inner corners or under your brow bone, you should be fine.

I think this quint’s name also suits it perfectly. It’s called Capital of Light, and I really do feel like my lids beam in these soft and silky shadows.

You can find Capital of Light now at Dior counters and online for $63. It’s one of two palettes in the new Skyline collection available now.

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

I think I’m just coming out from that – I got through first trimester fine, but moving into second trimester messed with me. For awhile there all I could face was toast, fruit or cereal.

I’m 19 weeks now, and my appetite is coming back. And baby girl is doing well! Now I just have to try to choose a pram & car seat for her! There’s so much choice it’s crazy.

We ended up going with the Chicco Keyfit 30 Infant Car Seat in Lilla. It’s worked great and we’re happy with it so far! Getting it into and out of the car is pretty easy, and it also slips right into our stroller, which is the Uppababy Cruz (you’ll also need an adapter for the seat). I really like this system because I can just pop the car seat out of the car, set it right into the stroller and I’m ready to go. I got the Uppababy Cruz recommendation from Arianne over at Glitter Geek. It’s on the pricier end but I really like it a lot, and Connor will be able to grow with it for many years. It’s compact, and not too wide, so it gets in and out of doorways easily. It also doesn’t take too much space in the trunk.

Not sure if you have it yet, but the Fischer Price Rock ‘n’ Play is a must, too!

I scooped this one up the minute it was released. A couple of weeks ago Saks had a 10% off code and I used that. I know it’s not much off, but it was better than nothing. I almost don’t want to touch this one though, because the design on the shadows is so darn pretty and reminiscent of the Eiffel Tower.
I’m very, very, very curious about your secret project.

      Hi Tatiana,

Ya know, I didn’t realize that about the design until you mentioned it. So pretty!

Oha, and 10% is at least a little something. Did anything else from the collection catch your eye?

I got the other palette, too. Didn’t want to buy too much because I always love the fall collections. Like the $60 Tom Ford lipstick is calling out to me. As if I really need that one. Lol. Luckily, the Chanel rouge collection wasn’t my thing.

Red eyeshadow was a 90’s trend. It was really hard finding red blush so that was what we used instead of eyeshadow. I think the trend was from Grace Jones or Robert Plant.

I bought the both quints and I was tempted by the lip color, Sophisticated, but I like my Tom Ford Black Dahlia.

Black Dahlia is amazing color. Tom Ford’s lippies are so pricey, but I do have to say that the ones I’ve loved I’ve worn down to the nub! Sable Smoke is one of my go-to’s. Next time you’re at the counter check it out. 😀

So, what you’re saying is I need to forget the notion of trying to be responsible & budget & head to the nearest Dior counter & test this baby out; to wear to the grown folx club, obvs? Roger that. I’ve never purchased or even tested a Dior shadow. But this one has gotten good reviews. And your swatches are swoon-worthy. I don’t have a purple that pigmented in my stash. I want the palette even if I do nothing but let it sit on display on my vanity. It’s soooo purr-ty ☺️

“Responsible” and “budget” are always good things… But if you want to have a treat yo’ self moment, I’d be in support of that. 🙂

Did I mention that there needs to be a grown folx club that opens at 7 and closes at 9:30? LOL! That would be purr-fect for me.

I totally understand. I’ll put a product into my everyday makeup bag and it’ll be in there for months! What brands do you usually wear? My fallbacks are MAC, NARS, Urban Decay, Chanel, Hourglass and Dior.

I thought I wouldn’t want any more from their fall 2016 release. T_T I recently got two of the Ultra Glosses and a Diorblush Light & Contour Sculpting Stick Duo (plus their foundation and brow palette). My wallet is now crying. Haha! But that is very pretty and if I could still afford it, I might get it too. 😀

Oh, I’ve been a long time follower/lurker in your blog btw. 🙂
