Dior Addict Ultra Gloss: Smooth Texture, High Shine

May 10th, 2010 by Karen 24 Comments

Hey, babes. Before we bid an overdue adieu to this particular Monday (YAY!), let’s take a quick look at a few of the glosses from Dior’s new Addict Ultra Gloss line ($27).

dior addict ultra gloss

This a-dior-able line of 12 glosses features a lightweight texture and ultra high shine. Dior incorporated penetrating hyaluronic spheres — dehydrated microspheres of hyaluronic acid — to plump the lips — and what they call micropearls to keep lips hydrated, smooth and shiny.

So did their science experiment work?

For the most part, I think so, with the exception of lip plumping. I didn’t notice any, but that’s not a big deal for me. I’m not usually a big fan of lip plumping (sometimes they sting!).

Starting from the outside of these and working in, the elegant packaging feels sturdy, which I like. I like how shiny the glosses are and that the glitter’s tastefully done (not huge chunks), and the line covers a fairly wide range of colors, from basic neutrals to brights.

They’re unscented but do have a mild brown sugar taste I don’t mind. As for how they feel — I mentioned that I didn’t detect any plumping, right? — the medium-weight thickness feels comfortable, non-sticky and smooth, and it makes them easy to wear. They also don’t creep past my natural lip line, either.

Here’s a look at three of the shades in action — 856 Little Red Dress, 576 Sari Pink and 556 Coral Fantasy.

What my lips don’t like about ’em

  • They aren’t exactly budget-friendly
  • They only last about 90 minutes on my lips
  • I wish they were more moisturizing

Makeup and Beauty Blog Rating: B

Even though Dior’s always pricey, and these don’t last long on the lips, I’m still a fan of the Ultra Glosses based on colors, packaging and shine.

You might like the Dior Addict Ultra Glosses if…

  • You like smooth, lightweight, non-sticky glosses
  • You’re okay with having to reapply often
  • You like to SHINE!
  • You like glosses with a little glitter

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

P.S. I don’t know about you, but I cannot wait for tomorrow. Today was not one of my better days. Sleep well. Talk to you soon. 🙂

I bought this gloss just when it came out and agree with a lot of things that you said about it. But there are 18 shades, not 12. Dior created a great page for this new gloss http://beauty.dior.com/usa/en/woman/makeup/layout-fullscreen/discover-ultra-gloss-univers.html

I love the packaging of Dior glosses – shallow as I am I would buy solely based on this!

Little Red Dress looks really good on you.

    I have 556 and 732.
These definitely are not lip plumping but I do love how they are non-sticky, really light but give you this real understated elegant look. I prefer these to Dazzleglasses as my lips don’t feel like a disco ball 🙂

I am glad Monday is over too. Its like a slump that I just wanted to be over with.

Even the Hubs noticed I was low ebb yesterday (maybe post vacation blues) … took me out to dinner and watched House w/ me in bed after, bless his heart! 🙂

I like those glosses, esp Little Red Dress. But I dont know if I can bear to spend that much on a product that I almost always eat off my lips in an instant. But so pretty….

I’m sorry to hear your day wasn’t too good, let’s hope this one is that much better! My day was good, I started at a new job! 😀
I like the swatches of these, but they don’t look too pigmented on lips. I’d expect a bit more colour for the price. That said, I’ll definitely be testing them out anyway, I mean, I love lipgloss, I can’t resist!

i have one of these in the fushcia color, in fact im wearing it right now! i love it but i agree with you on the wear time, i always find myself having to re apply!.

by the way, i just bought a great lip primer from benefit. its called lip plump and it neutralizes the color of your lips and moisturizes them too. i have highly pigmented lips and i have been using it all the time now when i wear a nude lip. i love it!

Morning, Karen! Hope you will have a great Tuesday!

I love these glosses, especially those from the FLASH range which has so many bright and shimmery shades.

I have made swatches of all the 18 shades of the glosses. Hope you don’t mind me putting up the link here as reference for those who are interested.

Awww, I’m sorry Karen, hope things get better. I can relate, I had a killer day Friday–oooh I still shake when I think about it.
Not sure about these glosses, they look awfully sheer, too sheer fro me maybe. When I spend that much on a gloss, I want something to show for it!

I have this in Coral Fantasy and like it a lot, although i agree with you, Karen – it wouldn’t kill them if they stayed on lips longer!
By they way, it is scented, but very slightly and tolerably – i’m very sensitive to smells 🙂
I also love how buildable it is – i put on mine in several layers so that the colour really shows and it still looks good, no caking at all! nor this disgusting white stuff that some glosses work up.

Hi there! I’m Karen, your friendly neighborhood beauty addict, and I’m a Bay Area girl who hoards brown eyeshadow and covets coral lipstick. Every morning, I wake up and say, “I’m going to do something other than a smoky eye today.” Then…I end up doing a smoky eye anyway (most days). When I’m not putting on makeup, taking pictures of makeup or writing about makeup, which I’ve been doing daily since 2007 (!), you’ll find me hanging out with my hubby (“El Hub”), my four-year-old daughter (Connor Claire) and my torbie girl cat (Pretty Girl Rosie, a.k.a.
