Diamond 12-Hour Lip Treatment: Drugstore Lipgloss Therapy

March 6th, 2009 by Karen 31 Comments

A few years ago I was working in downtown San Francisco as a legal assistant. There were times when the job made me *really grumpy.* Don’t get me wrong — I was glad to have a steady paycheck, but on those days when I felt under-appreciated, overlooked and extra cranky, I’d cross the street from work to the drugstore on my breaks and seek comfort in the makeup aisle.

It was on one of those misery-fueled, escapist trips that I discovered Sally Hansen’s Diamond 12-Hour Lip Treatment ($6), and I’ve been a fan of the line ever since. 🙂

These glosses are like non-stick, vanilla-scented (but no taste) drugstore versions of MAC Lipglass. Each tube packs may-jah color and shine, delivering added moisture as well, and they last for hours on my lips without budging one bit.

Sally Hansen Diamond 12-Hour Lip Treatment

Price: $6
Use: A bargain moisturizing lipgloss that delivers rich color and shine.
Makeup and Beauty Blog Rating: A+

I have to remember with these that the included brush always feels incredibly stiff when I first open a tube, but if I squash the brush tip on a surface like the back of my hand a few times it softens up the bristles.

When I’m having a rough day, Diamond 12-Hour Lip Treatment is a perfect bargain makeup pick-me-up.

America’s Best Dance Crew Season Finale SPOILER ALERT!

beat-freaks
What did you think of last night’s America’s Best Dance Crew finale? All season long I’d been pulling for the Beat Freaks, the badass all-girl dance crew, to win it all.

But I wasn’t sure after last week’s final performances. Quest Crew really stepped up and delivered an amazing routine called “OrQUESTra.” I’ve watched it about 20 times since then, and it still gives me chills.

I was a little disappointed not to see an all-girls crew finally take the crown, but I think Quest Crew deserved the win. What a fantastic season.

Even though host Mario Lopez totes drives me nuts, I’m madly in love with the show. I’m trying to see if I can make it down to LA someday for a taping! 🙂

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

Gah! I’m about to start as a legal assistant in about a week… unfortunately, I’ll be working in a place that does not have a drugstore down the street… perhaps on my way home from work, then?
Although, hopefully, I won’t have too many of those days…

For some reason I never thought about picking them up. I think I might pick them up to get a dose of new makeup. I’m trying to save money, so great products with great prices are exactly what I need!

As for Quest.. I totally love them! I’ve been following some of them since their SickStep days, when Ryan C was on So You Think You Can Dance. They are amazing, and their energy is just FUN!

I’ve got the baguette a few weeks ago when they had that 40% sale in Walgreen, I love love the gloss, it’s the old diamond lip treatment minus the huge silver glitters…my only complain so far is just there is only 2.6ml/0.088oz product in the tube…I am going to run out within a month…

Anyway, I like Sally Hansen a lot better than MAC lip glass, which looked way too glassy (makes my lips look like sausages)and the lower color payoff makes Sally Hansen more wearable too.

I LOVED Quest Crew, and voted for them as often as I could remember to, so I was SO HAPPY they won, as I got really nervous with all the Beat Freaks talk during the finale… love them and can’t wait to see them do more!!

I think Karen is out to stimulate the economy with this blog! I’m glad you cover drugstore brands, I’m a fan of Revlon & Loreal lipsticks. I’ll spend money on perfume, foundation, concealer, powder, & eyeshadows.

They must be discontinuing the Diamond Treatment, just picked them up half off (around $2.50, and they accidentally took another $1.22 on one of them). I might get the rest at these prices. Nude Shimmer, Pink Bouquet, and Brilliant Blush so far. I was surprised to see an actual brush and not the usual doe foot, bristles are stiff.

    Hi Jane,

Eternity’s really pretty. You can totally wear her with cooler colors. She’d also look great with a neutral eye with some thick black liner. 🙂

That’s cool that you met Victor! What class did you have with him?

    Hi Michelle,

It was a good job at the time… I learned a lot. It taught me how to handle deadlines and pressure. But I guess the biggest lesson I learned was that I didn’t want to be a lawyer. 🙂

I’m sure your new gig will be great. It really depends on the attorneys — if you’re lucky enough to get a good group then you’ll be set! It’s a great career if you are interested in the legal field.

    Hi Gloria,

These lipglosses are a great deal. Sometimes you can get them on sale, too, and that’s even better!

I love Quest’s energy and how creative they are. I was happy to see them win!

    Hi Citrine,

Baguette is probably my second favorite shade from this bunch.

Did you ever wear these glosses when they had the old school packaging with the cheesy diamond? I’m glad they got rid of that!

I’m a little late, but I feel ya on the ABDC thing. If it came down to consistency, Beat Freaks had it in the bag. They never ended up in the bottom two. But when it came down to the wire, Quest Crew brought it. I think the girls might have gotten too comfortable with where they were at in the competition that they didn’t put their all into their last performance. I was actually kinda bitter that they lost, but QC really wanted it, and they got it. I still remember Ryan Conferido accidentally bumping into me when I was in SoCal a few years back (after his run on So You Think You Can Dance). *sigh*
