Clarins Wonder Plum, Where’s the Plum?

September 29th, 2008 by Karen 39 Comments

Clarins Wonder Plum stars as the shy Ms. Little Plum in this highly anticipated sequel to the smash hit, The Attack of the Plum Mascaras! On counters now, it’s the latest long, natural lash product release from the people who brought us the rest of the Wonder Length Mascara family.

Okay, enough with the movie hype…

First, there was Benefit BADGal Plum; now there’s Clarins Wonder Length Mascara in Wonder Plum ($23.50).

Long, Natural Lashes

A limited edition shade released with the Clarins Fall Jazzy Colours collection, Wonder Plum mascara makes lashes look longer, but not so long that they look covered in mascara. It’s a natural effect for subtle lash looks.

A Subtle Burgundy-Black

On the brush it looks like a rich burgundy, but with makeup on brushes looks can be deceiving. I can barely see the coloring on my lashes (just a touch of burgundy, and only in the right light).

Like Benefit BADGal Plum, Wonder Plum shoots for subtle, and not dramatic color. You’ve got to look *really* closely to see the color at all. Whereas BADGal Plum looks like a warm dark brown-burgundy, Wonder Plum looks black with a hint of burgundy.

Lengthens, but Loses the Lash Curl

I usually prefer two to three coats of mascara because I like big lashes. As usual, coats beyond that number yield diminishing returns with Wonder Plum. I tried two and started getting clumpy lashes. I think one layer is plenty enough. Additional coats just didn’t make an attractive difference to either lash length or thickness.

For all you lash curler addicts (like moi), Wonder Plum kinda relaxed the curl from my Shu Uemura lash curler. I’m not sure why, but wearing a primer seemed to remedy the sitch.

I do love Wonder Plum’s ability to lengthen and how natural lashes coated with it still look, but I wish the color were a bit more dramatic. I think I’ll still use it from time to time when I’m in the mood for something different (I thought about trying it out with a fall smokey eye), but the lack of dramatic color really holds it back.

Clarins Wonder Length Mascara in Wonder Plum (limited edition)

Price: $23.50
Use: To lengthen lashes; adds a subtle hint of burgundy

Manic Monday!

It’s funny now that TV’s fall season is underway that I actually look forward to Mondays — Monday nights, that is. I’m a sucker for Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, and I still have high hopes for Heroes (although Season 2 left a bad taste in my mouth).

This season in Terminator the young John Connor sports a shorter, more grownup haircut, which I think totally ups his hottie stock (*ahem*, assuming he’s 18 in real life).

Even Derek Reese, played by Beverly Hills 90210 alum Brian Austin Green, looks good. I think the stubble works for him.

But Sarah Connor, played by Brit Lena Headey, works her look harder than the rest. If I were raising the future leader of the human resistance, I’d be hard pressed to look as put together as she does here, LOL!

So now that you know what I’m watching tonight (admitted sci-fi nerd), what about you? What are some of your favorite shows? Got any recommendations?

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

I am a shameless watcher of Gossip Girl (to be honest, more for the fashion-y aspect of it, since I did not work my Catholic uniform the way these girls rock their prep school gear), and I also watch Dancing with the Stars for some eye candy (I have a huge crush on that Russian piece of hotness, Maks). Haha, I don’t know if I can *recommend* either show, but if you’re up for shiny pretty things in the form of clothes, or shiny (or should I say oily? LOL) pretty things in the form of hot Russian dancers named Maks, then go for it. 😉

So many shows, but I rarely ever catch them when they’re on. I usually stream them online or download. Gossip Girl, Grey’s Anatomy, and LOST (not on yet).

Oh and Karen, if you’re a sci-fi geek I know you’ll love Battlestar Galactica. It’s going on its final season (don’t know when it’s starting again), but it is awesome. Don’t let the geeky name stop you from watching it! lol 🙂

I barely ever watch anything that isn’t on DVD (I require the ability to pause), so I have to wait until these shows come out on DVD! That said, I really want to see “True Blood”, a new HBO show based on Charlaine Harris’ Southern Vampire novels (Sookie Stackhouse rocks)!

BTW, in terms of colored mascaras, I’m loving Chanel’s Exceptionnel in Smoky Violine! It too is a more subtle color, a lovely purplish-black that shows in the sunlight, and of course it has all the functional mascara awesomeness that is Exceptionnel! <3 It’s also a bit more violet than plum, which is great for me as the reddish-purple shades seem to make me look like I’ve been crying!

    Hi Elle,

I’ve been meaning to get around to Gossip Girl. Eventually I’ll have to watch it on DVD and do a marathon or something!

Isn’t Kim Kardasian on DWTS this season?

    Hi Arianne,

Girrrrl, you know I’ve been watching that show for years! I will always have a soft spot in my heart for that Cylon lover, Helo. I haven’t seen it in a few seasons, though. Last time I watched it they settled on that horrible planet…

    Hi Glosslizard,

I heard about that show. It almost makes me want to get HBO. Gahh! I was also looking forward to the new Joss Whedon series Welcome to the Dollhouse. Dunno when it’s actually going to air, but I can’t wait.

    Hi Karen,

I’m really into I Want to work for Diddy. It’s hilarious watching those folks make asses out of themselves. As far as scripted television I love House–he’s so funny…

For colored mascaras, I really love 100% Pure Lengthening Mascara in Blackberry. It’s a purpulish black with a hint of shimmer. Even the smell of it is awesome! I don’t know if it is sn stores, but I got mine from QVC (another television addiction).

    Hey Karen,

It’s been quite a few years since I’ve tried colored mascara and like you, I kind of wish the Clarins mascara packed a little more color punch. I need to make it to Sephora to return a few items as well as find something to adopt – it’s been a while and my gift card is starting to get mad at me, LOL

I’ve been watching lots of shows on DVD, like Glosslizard. I just don’t have enough patience to wait for new episodes every week. I just came out of my weekend marathon watching Dexter – it’s so addicting!

I’ve also never followed DWTS but this season I just might – who can resist hottie Rocco DiSpirto?? 😀

Hope you’re having a happy Monday!

ha ha, my hubby is watching last week’s episode of terminator right now. As for me, I’m digging house, grey’s anatomy, and the real world road rules challenge for my trashy reality show fix. fringe is actually pretty entertaining as well. I usually like america’s next top model, but this cycle is over-the-top terrible.

Wow, there’s a lot of accented actors posing as American’s on the boob tube these days! But I have to say I love it. I’m semi addicted to Fringe and have grown an expected crush on Joshua Jackson. I didn’t see that one coming. Also, I’m thinking of checking out The Mentalist, with that Australian dude from Devil Wears Prada. Then of course there’s my Sunday PrimeTime Soap, Brothers & Sisters and my addition to Project Runway. I also have to admit that I’ve been watching True Blood on HBO which is two skips away from renting smut from the neighborly XXX shop. But, I can’t help but be intrigued with the whole vampire “coming out of the coffin” premise. I hope your Monday is spiffy-doo!

Kim Kardashian is on DWTS this season, and she’s kind of…sucking. I’m rooting for Brooke Burke this season so far, since she’s doing well and I love her partner. And the former NSYNC fan wants Lance to do well too, even though I was totally a Justin girl.

Hey Glosslizard! I just watched the fourth episode of Trueblood and I’m loving it so far! There are a few oddball scenes with Jason but overall I’m impressed with their take on the novels. I’m also watching Dexter on DVD and I tend to download shows a few days after they air to avoid commercials. (Heroes, DWTS, Project Runway are my mainstays right now.)

As far as colored mascara goes, I’m loving my Exceptionnel de Chanel in black. I tried to pick up a different color at Nordie’s but they only had brown in stock! I’m glad that the violet color is so pretty, cause it’s next on my list!

    Hi Asta!

Thanks! I hope they release the series on DVD, because that’s probably the only way I’ll be able to catch it! Fortunately, most of the HBO series seem to hit DVD these days eventually! I hear they’re also working with George R. R. Martin to adapt his Song of Ice and Fire novels (awesome, epic fantasy!) to an HBO series, and probably that will be when I finally bite the bullet and shell out for full cable!

I hope you like the Violine as much as I do! 🙂

The Sarah Connor Chronicles is just my favourite show this year. It’s like the Gilmore Girls with guns – and John is actually a less annoying teen than Rory Gilmore, so there’s that, too.
