Cheap Thrills with C Me Shine Lip Gloss from Yes To Carrots

September 16th, 2009 by Karen 41 Comments

yes to carrots c me shine lip gloss review

Cheap thrill alert!
CHEAP THRILL ALERT!

Hey, now, dirty birdies. Get that mind out of the gutter. I’m not talking ’bout that kind of nasty…

Or this kind for that matter…

spencer-pratty-says-haaaay-girl-1-2

I’m talking about the affordably awesome Yes to Carrots C Me Shine Lip Glosses ($6.50 each and available in six shades).

If it weren’t for their faint mint flavor and fragrance (which dissipates quickly), they’d almost be knockoffs of the MAC Lipgelles, which cost twice as much ($14). They have a similar smooth and shiny, non-stick texture and also broadcast seriously intense color.

And with six shades to choose from — Playful Nude, Rose Bliss, Flirty Pink, Carrot Kiss, Red Hot and Cocoa Loco — there’s a decent degree of variety within the line.

I’ve tried three of the colors:

yes to carrots c me shine lip gloss review red hot
Red Hot

yes to carrots c me shine lip gloss review cocoa loco
Cocoa Loco

yes to carrots c me shine lip gloss review rose bliss
Rose Bliss

First impressions? Moisture. These pretties make my parched pout feel softer than a baby’s bottom, and they do it naturally. Like Yes to Carrots’ fantabulous lip tints, the C Me Shine Lip Glosses contain 95% natural ingredients and few unpronounceable chemicals, with the exception of ricinus communis (castor seed oil)… That’s one I kinda struggle with. 🙂

So far this year I’ve been really impressed by Yes to Carrots’ lip makeup. I’d LOVE to see them roll out color products for cheeks and eyes. The C Me Shine Glosses deliver rich color with a texture that feels way more expensive than it is. $6.50 for this kind of quality? Cheap thrills indeed! Makeup and Beauty Blog Rating: A+

Plans tonight?

I just got back from a run, which looks to be the only productive thing I’ll probably do tonight. I may squeeze in some reading with my new Sookie Stackhouse book, Dead to the World. On account of last weekend’s True Blood season finale (wasn’t it bootsie?), I need to get my vamp fix one way or another.

Got any plans tonight, fangbangers? What are you up to right now?

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

Seeing Spencer just made me throw up in my mouth a little. o_O

I got some of these lip products in my goody bag from Shecky’s but have yet to try them. I will have to look for them in my make up case and check them out.

I am done reading all 9 Sookie Stackhouse books. Tonight I am waiting for my friend to come over and we are going to have some drinks at my house. I may need that Shu brush tomorrow morning to help conceal my dark circles. =)

I LOVE the Yes to Carrots Lip Tints so I may need to get the C Me Shines… I have so many extra ELF Lip Shines, though, I’m really trying to stop buying duplicates of things, LOL! We’ll see how well that goes…

Tonight I’m working on Western Civilization homework, and reading some more Nabokov… again… LOL!

How do you like the ELF Lip Shines?

Ooooh, I am so loving these colors! I love, love, love glosses and these would definitely be in the budget price range. Although I don’t know – hubby and I talked about actual numbers tonight! 😉 I am trying to update my look (40 something mom of two and one of them is special needs), and some new glosses would be great.

I am actually getting ready to go to bed now since it’s midnight on the east coast. Hope you have a wonderful evening!

      Hi Toni,

I love me a good drugstore lip gloss too. Another good one to try: Sally Hansen Diamond Lip Treatments. They have great pigmentation, texture and shine; plus, they come in a bunch of colors and only cost $5!

Ooh, those look fab. Moisturising, shiny, and with a gorgeous colour range? One word: wishlisted. Red Hot, you will be mine!

(Also, showing me that photo of Spencer totally just ruined my night. How will I ever get my eyes to stop burning?!)

I’m really enjoying the products from this line and think I’ll try some hair stuff next. Will let you know if it’s any good.

Nice! If they have a clear shade I could throw one in my dojo bag for a cheap n’ easy aikido lipgloss! Right now I’m using a Philosophy gloss that came with a set I got… Ooey Gooey S’mores! Some nights I dig the marshmallow-y scent and other nights it bugs me! My go-to is Stila’s plumping lip glaze in Vanilla Mint, but sometimes I just can’t bring myself to lay down the 20-something bucks for a replacement!

I know I’m totally rambling, but I am so exhausted… I’m at that cold-medicine-intoxicated-kind-of-feeling stage of fatigue! But I just got back from aikido (points for me… I dragged my sorry behind there tonight and learned some fantastic stuff) and had to check in! Have a great evening, I gotta go sleep now! 😛

Oh, been there, done that! Hope you got some good rest last night and that you’re feeling better.

I love the Philosophy glosses for moisture… I could see how Ooey Gooey S’mores might get gross!

I’m surprised at your raves about the moisturizing properties of these – I bought one on a whim and found I had the same problem with it as a lot of other similar-textured glosses, which was that it seemed to make my lips flake if I didn’t alternate with balm throughout the day. The tints seemed to do this a little bit too. I’m thinking my lips don’t like the peppermint oil?

      Hi BeckBeck,

Yeah, I dunno… my lips really liked these a lot (and most stuff makes them dry). There’s a couple of different oils listed on the ingredient list; maybe yours are sensitive to one of them.

At least there’s a lot of other great drugstore glosses to be found! Have you tried the Sally Hansen Diamond Lip Treatments? Those are very moisturizing.

If only we could have that brand here (in the Philippines)! I’m crushing on red hot. Hm. Oh, I do have a question though, what’s the best *Red* lip gloss out there? Cheap or not, I just want with one that packs the most color. Heehee 😀

I’ve been reeling since the True Blood finale. *Sigh* Time to hit the books again for the fourth time!

honestly, I sorta thought the finale would be better! I dunno, I just feel like they had been dragging the mary ann thing on for so long and then resolved it kinda quickly. and I feel like bill and sookie’s relationship has become so lame!

Ooh, those do look nice! Wish they were a bit more pigmented, but they still look nice on your swatches 🙂

I actually just bought the Yes To Carrots tinted lip balm trio on clearance at Target (they also had the C Me Shine Lip Gloss duo!). They were only $3.98 per boxed set, so I decided to give ’em a try. The tinted balms are just barely tinted, and are actually really moisturizing as well! I definitely recommend them.

They’re alright. For $1 they’re pretty great, but I don’t mind spending more for a better product. The color is really minimal, but the shine in the ELF glosses is pretty good, and they have a really great but subtle shimmer. The scent can be weird for some, but I love it! It’s like lemonade!

This post came at the right time! I picked up the Cocoa Loco but haven’t wanted to open it yet because I think it might be too dark for me. (As my friend says, I only have a “baby tan”!) I might have to swap it for the Carrot Kiss, but I have to say that CL and Red Hot look gorgeous on you!

I’m not big on minty glosses as they tend to irritate my lips. I just got an Alba gloss very similar to the Red Hot and love it. It has a light vanilla scent, isn’t sticky, and moisturizes fairly well. It was about a dollar cheaper too.

I found this in ‘Playful Nude’ and ‘Rose Bliss’ at the clearance rack in the house of tar-ghay for $1. Also got a YTC lip tint for $1 and found some retractable hairbrush that makes me happy.
