Chanel Venice Collection Fall 2009: Hot Glossimers

July 13th, 2009 by Karen 39 Comments

Coco and company cooked up two seriously *hot* Glossimers for their fall 2009 Venice collection.

Both Courtisane and Arlequin ($27 each) inject a hint of golden warmth to lips, balancing out the cool green and gray shades for eyes.

I love both of these Glossimers because they aren’t your typical fall lip fare.

Unusual for fall

Courtisane’s a hot pink with gold pearl; Arlequin’s a shimmery peachy gold. Makeup lines usually release darker, vampier lip colors in shades of berry, plum and red for fall, so I was pleasantly surprised to see shimmery glosses in golden hues.

And both of these could easily pass for summer colors, too. No reason at all to wait for autumn leaves. 🙂

Courtisane is my favorite of the two. She’s richly pigmented — more so than most of the Glossimers I’ve tried — but the color’s not so bright or shimmery that it’s difficult to wear. Makeup and Beauty Blog Rating: A+

Arlequin, a peachy golden pink with bronze glitter, is the warmer of the two shades. She’s sheerer than Courtisane, but her glitter might deliver a nice pop of shimmer when layered atop bronze, peach or brown lipstick.Makeup and Beauty Blog Rating: B+

A lil’ something for everyone

Even though Chanel stocked the Venice collection with a *ton* of cool shades, I’m glad they decided to throw in some warmer lip shades, too.

I really like the gold in these, but what do you think?

Dental Dalliances, Part 12

This summer is turning out to be my summer o’ teeth trubs… Yup, I’m heading back to the dentist this afternoon, aka my home away from home. This time I’m assured there there won’t be any injections up in the mix!

How’s your day been? It’s a hot one here in Nor Cal. I think after my appointment I might stop by Starbucks for an iced tea.

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

Oh, you poor thing. Boo for the dentist. I had major dental issues last October & it was horrible torture. I feel your pain.

Not much exciting this Monday. Super sticky hot here in South Florida, but I’ve been obsessing over my Madly Creative lipstick all day so it has really taken my mind off of it.

      Hi Nicole15,

Isn’t Madly Creative so great? I am thinking that I might need a back up or two (or 12)!

I didn’t know you were from Florida! I went there last November. My BFF got married in Boca Raton (her hubby is from the area). Afterwards El Hub and I drove down to the Keys. I really enjoyed the trip! Although I have to say I was tripping over having to pay $ to get on certain freeways. It’s weird… here in the Bay it seems perfectly normal to pay $6 to cross a bridge, but having to pay a dollar to get on the freeway just did not compute.

Gosh the dentist.. last fall I had major mouth issues.. I ended up getting four teeth pulled (they had to knock me out!). Ugh!

I really like the Arlequin.. the pink is gorgeous but I keep thinking it would totally bunch up and flake on my lips. I might give it a shot anyway though.. I’ve been dying to try pink!

      Hi Marmar,

Yikes! Yah, my dentist offered to knock me out, but I declined. I worry about weird stuff like earthquakes, LOL! I sooo want to be awake if sh*t hits the fan while I’m at the dentist.

So pretty! I think both colors would be flattering on most people.

Good luck at the dentist. I have the worst teeth ever – by genetics not cause I don’t take care of them. I have a ton of old fillings (the silver kind from like the 80s!)that are cracked – so in a few weeks, I get to go get 4 of them redone. Lovely. Once had two root canals at the same time. Ugh. Love/hate the dentist.

      Hi Laurie,

I am in the same boat as you. I have to brush and floss like a crazy person to keep my teeth in shape. El Hub, however, can go to sleep with Cheetos in his mouth every night for a year and get away with perfectly healthy gums and teeth. It’s not fair!

      Are you an avid flosser?

Bummer about the teeth! 🙁 I’m glad you have some glosses for consolation! I looked at both of them yesterday and I particularly liked Courtisane, but I think I’m already binging on so much Chanel (’cause I’m gonna hafta get the Murano quad) that I’ll have to pass on the Glossimers this time around. At least I’ll have Comedia to keep my lips from feeling neglected!

I was wondering whether you will review Courtisane, I’m so in love with that colour! Unfortunately I’ll have to wait until it gets here- we still didn’t get the Nudes collection (the ladies at the store are starting to give me odd looks how many times I’ve asked)

P.S. Is it just me or does anyone else think Nicole Kidman in Moulin Rouge when one mentions Courtisane?

LOL! Hopefully it’ll get there sooner than later.

Whenever I think of Courtisane I think of the word “cortizone,” which makes me think of cortizone shots, BOO! I had one once when I had a bad allergic reaction… ’twas not fun. The needle the doc used was huge, like something a vet would use on a horse.

These really do look like summer glosses! I kind of wish that the peachy gloss were more pigmented – it looks so pretty but I know it probably won’t show up on me. It *does* look like it would go so prettily with my Dior Addict Gallant Bronze though… hehe.

Yesterday I grabbed the chance to try the Murano quad on! I was worried that it was too gray and not bright enough, but in person the teal reflects really glowed through and made my eyes look really pretty! I walked around Broadway Plaza and kept getting complimented on my eyes… that means it’s a keeper! 😀

LOL! I would totes go to a dentist that served margaritas!

Ha! I have a funny feeling that the doc would get a TON of patient referrals.

I’ll have mine on the rocks with salt, please. 🙂

BTW, if you get the chance, layer that medium green on top of the black shade from the Eye Gloss. It’s heavenly!

      Hi Glosslizard,

Seriously! And wouldn’t it be fab if he gave you a prize at the end of the visit? Instead of a balloon you’d get a Chanel Glossimer. HOLLA.

I agree; the gold shade = awesome. I love both the black and the gold most. The burgundy, on the other hand, makes me look like I got in a street fight with some makeup thugs! You could probably pull it off better since you wear purple so well.

Ugh, don’t remind me of the dentist. I go for a filling on Wednesday which means I’m getting at least 2 shots of Novocaine. Big jaw=lots of Novocaine for numbing. The most shots of Novocaine I’ve had for a filling is 8. Yea, that wasn’t fun. The even worse thing is that I see my psychiatrist the next day. Can you imagine the scenario?

    Wednesday:
Dentist: “Okay Kate, we’re done for the day!”
    Kate: “Okay.”

    Thursday:
Psychiatrist (in thick Russian Accent): “There’s the pretty girl. How are ve doin?”
    Kate: “Good. Tired but good.”
P: “Good, good. I glad you doin’ okay but, Kahtie, you got to gain weight. You too skinny. I could break you with my two fingers.”
K: :internally fuming but smiling to get psychiatrist off back:

Did I mention he says that nearly everytime I go there? It’s not my fault I’m 5’2.5″ and 97 pounds! I’ve got the Energizer Bunny for a metabolism! I’d internally combust if I try eating anymore! My doctor threw out the BMI thing a long time ago as it doesn’t take into account metabolism and a person’s frame. I figure as long as my doctor says I’m a healthy weight than I can just ignore my psychiatrist. I think he’s been around too many Russian women. It just gets on my nerves when he tells me that. :mini tangent over:

I have a feeling this is not going to be a good week for Kate. Zena will have her normal week whilst I get tortured.

On a make-up note, those colors are pretty. I might have used the Anglicized version of “Arlequin” though (harlequin) so it might make more sense to the common person. When I saw the name at first, I thought, “Did Chanel forget the ‘h’ in ‘arlequin?'” I had to remind myself that Arlequin is the French spelling (the years of French are starting to pay off).

Hey Karen! I am trying to be a better flosser now because the dentist hounds me about it. So I carry it with me in my purse and generally do a post-lunch quick floss and then a more comprehensive job at night. I also use the Listerine Whitening pre-brush rinse and swear by it. Sadly none of this matters, I still get cavities!

That would make a lot of sense! “You’ve been a great patient! Here’s a nice pink-toned Gloss to make your smile bright and your teeth look whiter!” Or maybe they could give out Benefit’s California Kissin’! 😉

I’m not sure about the burgundy though, red-based tones around my eyes tend to make me look like I’ve been crying! I’ve been on a quest lately to find a few good violet/blue-based purples, they’re not easy to find! The best one I’ve got right now is the silver-purple in my Dior Petal Shine quint!

    OMG Karen!,

I made Arlequin my first Chanel purchase. It is so gorgeous! I had been wanting a great gold gloss for a while and now I have it. This is slap yo momma good IMO. If mine’s were there I would have slapped her. No not really because I wouldn’t have been here to write this post lol. I have oranges and browns on my eyes as of this moment and it pairs very well. Although Arlequin looks great on my lips alone, I must make a hasty retreat to my stash to find some lipsticks/liners to pair it with:-D
