I Don’t Care If It’s Taboo! I’ll Break Every Rule for Chanel’s Latest Le Vernis Nail Colour

April 1st, 2013 by Karen 36 Comments

Chanel Taboo Le Vernis
Chanel releases a new nail polish called Taboo Le Vernis ($27), and the universe collectively swoons…

Take heed, beauty lover! You’ve been warned…

Get too close to Chanel’s new $27 Taboo Le Vernis Nail Colour, and you run the risk of losing yourself in its galactic shimmer for all eternity.

Gazing too closely at the shimmery blue and bronze stars in Taboo’s deep, interstellar purple base is like crossing the event horizon of a black hole — the boundary in spacetime through which matter and light can only pass in one direction.

It will suck you in!

At least that’s what I told El Hub when he said, “You paid $27 for a bottle of nail polish!?”

Chanel Taboo Le Vernis Nail Colour

Every few millennia (okay, years), a beauty brand Big Bang occurs. Chanel crafts a nail polish so striking that it warps the very fabric of space and time.

Taboo!

When I saw it for the first time, I knew that if I let it pass me by, I would regret my decision for — who knows how long? Maybe years (I have a friend who still regrets skipping Jade, and whenever I bring it up, she gets fussy).

Why do I like it so much?

Well, because opalescent copper nebulae streak through Taboo’s blackened purple like comet tails, while flecks of cosmic blue glitter wink and twinkle like distant stars, and because I only need to wear a single layer — A SINGLE LAYER, OMG! — for total opacity.

If you’ve ever wished (on a star, perhaps?) for a darker, sparklier, more intense version of Chanel Vendetta, the universe answered. It’s Taboo.

Past, present and future intertwine in its formula. Taboo is one of those nail polishes built for big events — birthday toasts, baby showers, or the first time you put on your wedding ring — and it makes you say, “daaaaayum!” when you see it on your paws.

I love it. Love it, love it love it.

I can easily see it perched alongside other iconic Chanel greats.

One last warning: if you don’t plan to splurge on something special soon, do not visit a Chanel counter. I repeat: do not visit a Chanel counter. It’s Taboo.

PRICE: $27
AVAILABILITY: Available now at Chanel counters, in my wildest dreams, in stores and online
MAKEUP AND BEAUTY BLOG RATING: A+ (yes, even at this price)

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

P.S. POOF! And just like that, Monday’s done. 🙂 I hope yours went well.

Mine was swimming in coffee and leftover fried food from Easter lunch, so I felt like having a big bowl of raw veggies tonight.

My brother loves to tease me about liking salad so much. He calls it “rabbit food.” Fair enough, but I always feel so much better after a huge salad.

What did you have for din-din tonight? More importantly, what’d you have for dessert?

It’s beautiful, but $27 on nail polish? I just can’t justify that.

    That is one stunning polish!

Dinner for me was Trader Joe’s Thai Shrimp Gyoza and a salad. Dessert was some of my favorite Jelly Belly jellybeans that I received yesterday — Strawberry Cheesecake.

Karen, I was wondering if you liked Taboo… HAHA! I was kind of laughingly with El Hub over the $27 comment but I think you got me at “single layer”. That’s unbelievable. The color is beautiful and, did I mention, one coat coverage? My wallet is thankful we don’t have a Chanel counter nearby! 🙂

This is so gorgeous – I am verrrry tempted, but keeping in mind that Chanel colors usually get duped eventually. Guess I’ve got to sit on my hands & wait!

I don’t understand the hype around this. (OK, maybe I do; people are drinking the almighty Chanel kool-aid.) Anyway, it’s really pretty, but I KNOW I’ve got plenty in my stash that are really, really similar, if not downright dupes. Pass.

This nail polish color is identical to my estee lauder’s” smashed “one. Identical! But estee’s is $20. Love that color, saw it in the back of a magazine and just had to have it. Stays on
Ike a charm as well…..and makes me feel oh so sophicated:). Thought ladies would like to know about that $20 “bargain”….btw, never ever would i be able to admit to my bf how much my nail polishes cost, he would die…..but on the same token, getting ones nails done cost the same, but bottle of higher end polish lasts so much longer.

I was reminded of Smashed and another older Estee color, Extravagant Night, as well. If those 2 had a baby, it would be Chanel Taboo. And IMHO, Chanel Western Light, is similar to Estee Lauder Molten Lava.

Estee is my favorite polish brand but I have been drinking the Chanel kool-aid since Malice and Vertigo were released. Super tempted by Chanel’s more unique offerings, shimmery ones like this one.

You know when you’re just casually browsing the beauty blogs and suddenly you think “great, that’s $27 out of my back pocket then” – I literally am such a sucker. I can’t believe this nail polish, it’s slightly similar to an Estee Lauder polish I saw once, but it was discontinued and I did get majorly upset but to be honest I’m glad I didn’t bother because I’ll definitely be getting this one instead! Chanel have done very well with this one. A+ from me too and I haven’t even tried it on!!!!!

Fab pictures by the way doll. Great review!
    So much love.

I didn’ know it was darker and more intense than Vendetta. Anyway the good news is it is not limited edition.
And I too still do regret not getting Chanel Jade!
