Chanel Les Ombres Multi-Effect Eyeshadow Quad in 278 Codes Subtils

January 17th, 2017 by Karen 30 Comments

Wearing the new limited edition Chanel Les Ombres Multi-Effect Eyeshadow Quad in 278 Codes Subtils, $61 and available now

If you would, please direct your attention away from my hair for a moment (I know, it’s CRAY, but I just couldn’t deal with it this morning), and kindly observe my lids.

Don’t they look glossy and glowing in the best possible way? I think so.

That’s Chanel for ya.

Yeah, their eyeshadow quads are crazy expensive ($61, HOLY CANNOLI), but nobody does glossy glow like Chanel.

Well…Tom Ford gets pretty close with Nude Dip and Honeymoon, but they’re $82! In comparison, $61 for Chanel is practically a steal (at least that’s what I tell myself).

Behold the new Les Ombres Multi-Effect Eyeshadow Quad in 278 Codes Subtils, and brace yourself for all the lusty eyeshadow thoughts.

ALL. OFF. THEM. 🙂

Limited edition… Why?

It’s really annoying that this quad is limited edition (it’s part of the Chanel 2017 Spring collection). I wish it was permanent, because all of the colors — the pale seashell pink, golden taupe, golden brown and khaki taupe — go SO WELL with the pink, nude and coral lip colors I love to wear in spring and summer.

This needs to be permanent

A fabulous finish

All of the shades have varying levels of age-appropriate shimmer and almost look like wet gloss. And they’re absolutely perfect for mature lids. This kind of glow won’t age you.

Easy-to-blend, potent pigments

I don’t know how or why (it might be a miracle), but I don’t think you really even need to know what you’re doing with these because, despite them being highly pigmented, they also have a blurring effect that makes blending them drama-free. You can practically swipe your tapered eye brush back and forth a few times, and forget about it.

What’s the verdict?

Absolutely beautiful. I love it. This quad will be getting a workout on my lids this spring and summer. If you want to check it out, it’s available now.

Is it spring yet…?

cherry blossom

We’re only halfway through January, and I’m already thinking about spring!

I snapped this picture right down the street a few years ago. It’s of my favorite tree in the neighborhood, a lovely cherry blossom that blooms like this every year.

I love this tree…

Am I the only person who has favorite trees? LOL!

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

I have never bought Chanel before, but I have a birthday Friday, and it’s one of those where you feel like you need to grow up a little, so tbis is coming home with me!

    Ugh, looks amazing on you!
I bought one of the summer quads (first Chanel purchase)and the formula kind of irritates my eyes a bit. They’re pretty, but… I’ll use the one I have up, but for the sake of my watery eyes, I can’t purchase another.
I am with ya! Christmas done? Time for spring.
I’m already wearing pink lippies and such, and those are pretty much only reserved for spring with me.:)

It is freezing here, and snow. No way I can already think of spring when I risk breaking my neck every morning riding my bike in the cold outdoors.
The finish is really, really lovely, but I don’t think that alone will motivate me to spend that much money on neutrals, pretty as they may be.

It’s freezing here too ! I live in the Northeast, and it’s smack in the middle of winter right now (though 40s..which is “warm”). Although I love the quad and it’s colors..right now I’m enjoying the deeper, richer, mauves, reds..etc. how’s the time to do it !

What a beautiful palette! I can see this coming home with me in the near future!

It’s freezing here, too. I was up walking in the Scottish highlands last week and there was 3 metres of snow!

What about (my skin tone) light and neutral skin with brown hooded eyes? What do you think? I feel hopeless with the eyeshadows, even though years ago I remember finishing all my limited Les Ombres and writing a letter to Chanel begging them to reproduce it again 🙂 … All colours look great. And these are amazing on you. (loves from freezing Europe)

      Hi Basak,

My friend Eugenia swatched the quad over on her blog; she has a lighter skin tone than me and the colors look just as pretty. Here’s the link. I have slightly hooded eyes and didn’t have a problem with these shades making my eyes look more hooded, although with any shimmer you do have to be careful with your shadow placement with hooded eyes. If you take the brown up onto the hood (which is what I did here), it’ll create the illusion of it being pushed back. If you have any lid space, then put the one of the shimmer shadows on the lids. Does this make sense? Let me know if I can answer any questions for you.

I’ve never owned, or even touched, a Chanel palette in real life but I always love looking at your swatches! They look so luxurious, one of these days I’ll have to splurge!

I just recently purchased a Chanel eye quad as part of a set. It is the Essentials. It also came with the waterproof eye pencil and Le Volume mascara. I admit that I am really loving the quality and feel of the shadows. I actually returned a Bobbi brown palette to purchase the set because I was not thrilled with the product. I have since purchased a blush (Rose Ecrin) and lip color (Rouge Coco Mademoiselle). I get a 20% discount from Lord & Taylor as a seasonal/event employee. Those shadows looks great on you and I am tempted to but them for the summer as an alternative. The price doesn’t bother me, as long as the quality is there and so far I am impressed. I still like some of Bobbi’s makeup, but I am making some changes. I may look at the Chanel foundation formulas for a mature woman.

      Hi Jane,

I’m a huge fan of Chanel’s products, and they do some amazing things that work so well with mature skin. If you get the chance, try their loose powder. It’s fantastic.

Have you worn the waterproof eye pencil and mascara yet? Those are two of my go-tos.

I love flowering trees too. I don’t have a current favorite tree in this area, but there a few flowering dogwoods that are the double brach variety in the next down down the freeway that are pretty awesome. They look like clouds attached to trees in late spring.

Why? I saw the headline and thought “just don’t scroll… don’t look” but, alas, like all good advice, I ignored it. Totally gorgeous quad and up my alley in pretty much every way. Chanel always tests my willpower and it doesn’t help that I can’t get over missing out on Daydream. I know, let it go! HAHA!

I hope you can find this one. You can use it every day and it would look great with your fave Chanel blush (Malice 4 life!). I’ve heard that in person it’s kind of hard to find, but it’s online. 🙂 Plus Chanel has free shipping on orders over $50!

I can’t wait to wear this with Malice, actually. It’s been a while since I’ve take out our old friend.

Dayum!! And here I was thinking “I’m done with Chanel” and “not gonna buy makeup till my birthday in June”. You look so great with it! If it looks like that on me, I definitely want it!!

PS: out of curiousity, have you ever actually finish a quad?

I love this palette and snapped one up as soon as I could. Wish it wasn’t limited. Sigh, oh well.
I have favorite trees, too. The first house we lived in had a gingko in the backyard. Unfortunately, it was a female and dropped stinky fruit every fall. But it was so beautiful when it turned golden in the fall. Since then, every place we’ve lived, we’ve planted a gingko. Always a male tree though!

I was sent the other quad in the collection and it has the same incredible finish, but I think the color selection in this one is a little more interesting (although I love my golds and browns!).

P.S. I’ve been thinking about the spring since October, LOL!

Intrigued by this but have read that Chanel cosmetics have a rose scent. I’m so allergic to scent. Are the shadows scented or is it just the blush and lip products?

      Hi Nicole,

This look was super easy. I applied the warm brown shade on my lids and crease. I applied Noir Petrole liner by Chanel (also from spring, it’s a khaki brown-black) on my water and lash lines, and then I smudged the dark khaki shade from the quad on top of it. I then rubbed my finger into the golden taupe pan, then pressed the shadow into the center of my lids. Lastly I took a super small eye brush and applied the pink just underneath the arch of my brow, and then into the inner corners.

If you try this look send me a pic (or if you’re on Instagram tag me, I’m @karenmbb). I’d love to see it on you.

Hi Karen, you’re not alone having a favourite tree! My favourite tree is a huge cedar of Lebanon that is in the grounds of a grand period property about half a mile from my house, I admire it every time I drive or walk past and wish I had a house with grounds big enough to accommodate such a magnificent tree! That Chanel palette is definitely going to be mine once it launches in the UK, counting the days … Your eyebrows look immaculate, what did you use on them in these photos?

Hey you! I just used this quad today and it made me think of this post. At the time this came out, I was really doubting it would work for me and just kinda labeled it as not too interesting and moved on. Then I saw how much you loved it in this review, and I had second thoughts. Ended up getting it and so glad I did… ! It’s sky rocketed to one of my favorites. That is… maybe until the FW 2017 collection comes out. I see some pics have emerged about it, and it looks stunning… 😉 e.g., https://www.beautyalmanac.com/article/chanel-makeup-collection-for-fallwinter-2017/3451
