Take a Bite Out of Buxom’s Delicious Eyeshadow Bar: Customize Your Own With Six Shadows for $40

Chomping on the new Buxom Eyeshadow Bar Refillable Palette ($40)

Mmm, tasty…

Why does the new Buxom Eyeshadow Bar ($40 for an empty palette and six eyeshadows) have to look like a chocolate bar? — because according to the official transcript of my tummy, that falls under the category of “Cruel and Unusual Punishment.”

Oh, well… It’s a good thing my tummy takes orders from my eyelids when it comes to makeup. 🙂

With the $40 refillable Buxom Eyeshadow Bar, you get to customize your own palette and fill it with your choice of six eyeshadows from among a selection of 40. There’s a wide range of colors and finishes available, too, from mattes to satins, duo-chromes and shimmers, and the formula contains a built-in primer to keep the shadows going strong up to eight hours on your lids.

For easy transport, there’s also a $2 Empty Eyeshadow Bar Compact for taking one of the Eyeshadow Bar shadows on the road with you, and the individual shadows are $12 each. They’ll fit into either the Empty Eyeshadow Bar Compact or the larger six-pan Eyeshadow Bar.

But wait, there’s more! If you have trubs deciding which six colors to get (happens to the best of us), there are also three pre-populated eyeshadow palettes available, and they’re also refillable. There’s Dolly’s Wild Side, May Contain Nudity and Pastel Persuasion. To replace any of the shades, just slide it out of the palette.

“Dude, you’re blinding me with science!” I know, it’s a lot to take in, but here’s the flashing neon take-home message: purchasing six of the singles individually would cost $72 (or $85 with an empty palette), so the $40 Buxom Eyeshadow Bar represents a pretty great deal.

NOTE: Purchasing one of the palettes on Sephora’s website is a little tricky. All you do is add the palette to your cart, and then add your own six shades, and it’ll apply the discount before checkout. That should bring the cost down to $40.

I think Buxom did an amazing job with the pigment level, the finishes (I especially like the mattes and sheens) and the formula of these shadows. They feel silky, and they’re easy to blend. They remind me a lot of Urban Decay eyeshadows (several of the shades could even pass for dupes), but with much less fallout.

I mean, there is a little fallout…but it’s definitely not bad. For this look I’m wearing here, I applied my foundation before the eyeshadows, and there was just a little bit to clean up at the end.

Yup, these are my latest and greatest eyeshadow jam!

Wanna take a bite? If you do, the Buxom Eyeshadow Bar is available now exclusively at Sephora and sephora.com.

PRICE: $40 for a refillable palette with six eyeshadow pans

That PURPLE! It’s so loud and awesome and hotness.

I haven’t played with these shadows yet, but I love that more and more brands are going to customizable palettes!

I’m really impressed with the pigment of these! I haven’t looked much into Buxom- but it looks like I should! I really like how you applied the shadow (like, how you kept a sharp, clean line, instead of blending it out.. really beautiful!).

The rainbow Pegasus colors are gorgeous & I’m digging the purple eyeshadow look you created. Of course, the fact that you find the mattes appealing makes my ears perk up. I’ve never tried anything from this brand. But that won’t stop me from trying. I needs an all matte palette with pigment that’ll show up on my NC50 complexion. *Sigh* the search continues…..

Like UD but with less fall out?! I’m so in! I adore the intensity of those purples. Speaking of UD, my kids are less and less happy with the brand as the years go by. Any recs for pencil liner that stays put? 24/7 Glide On disappears on me D’:

First off that purple is gorgeous on you! I played with these in store a few weeks ago and loved both the colors and the formula. Sadly the colors I want are constantly out of stock in store and online. It stinks because you can’t do this piece meal.

Here’s the thing that really caught my eye here. It’s refillable palette that doesn’t feel like it’s wasting huge amounts of space and being just slightly too large to travel with. UD, Bobbi Brown and Laura Mercier all feel kinda clunky for just 4 or 6 shadows. The only other refillable palatte that I don’t feel wastes space is the ones from the Makeup Planners whose name escapes me atm.

I love buxom & the idea behind this type of set up. I’m just not sure I need more eye shadow since I have a ton already.

I love that graphic purple look on you; you’re totally rocking it. I swatched some of these last weekend at a Sephora inside Penney’s (better than shopping with hubby for workout clothes), and was really impressed.

Woah, Karen, what a great look! I love it, it’s so funky! (funky is my word of the day) The eyeshadows all look really good. So smooth and pigmented!

I like the concept for selecting your own eye shadow, but sometimes I just like to get a set palette with some shades I like and a few bold shadows to try out. For example, when I created an Inglot palette – it was all neutrals, I’m a creature of habit .. 😛

I love the purple on you! Since the specific colours I wanted seem to be sold out online, I decided to pick up the Dolly’s Wild Side palette. The colours in that are similar to what I like anyway. I’ve been wearing it almost everyday and really like it. And I love that you can still customize the pre-made palettes so I can see this becoming a go to for travelling.
I would love to see you try out a look with the beautiful teal!!!

Wow, that’s a great price for 6 shadows! And I love that look on you. 🙂 I haven’t tried much from Buxom, just a sample of their eyeliner. Will have to check these out next time I’m in Sephora!

I don’t think you mentioned in the post, but are you wearing the shadow wet or dry?

Great review Karen! I just bought the customizable palette and 6 shadows this week – I am IN LOVE. The pigmentation is simply amazing and I have had zero fallout, and that’s using no primer at all. This is my first experience with Buxom and I am thrilled. I am seriously considering buying a second palette and 6 more shadows – the price can’t be beat, especially for the quality. I hope Buxom comes out with even more colours to choose from!

Holy WOW – that is some vibrant purple! Well done, Buxom. Who actually had the chocolate bar pallet? Was that Benefit? Sorry, I could look it up, but you’ll know off the top of your head. 🙂 Nope. Two Faced. Couldn’t resist looking it up myself.
