Burt’s Bees Aloe and Witch Hazel Hand Sanitizer: A Natural Born (Germ) Killer

Girldom Rule #3,654: Within any given group, there’s always at least one girl with an obscenely large bottle of hand sanitizer in her purse.

Homies, I’m one of those girls (bit of a freakshow when it comes to germs). 🙂

And if we were chatting over coffee, I’d be baptizing you in Burt’s Bees Aloe & Witch Hazel Hand Sanitizer ($5).

I blame it on the countless hours I’ve spent people watching. The fingers picking noses and cleaning ears, teeth and, OMIGOD, butts! — I done seen it all.

Purell used to be my standby, but Burt’s stole me away. I think the liquid spray absorbs faster than Purell’s gel does, and it doesn’t leave a film.

My nose feels Burt’s also beats Purell in the scent department. It smells like fresh cut lemons to Purell’s overpowering vodka.

And if you’re into natural products then you’re in luck. Burt made a product to kill 99.99% of germs without relying on harsh chemicals. I checked the list of ingredient, and it’s indeed very short — just corn alcohol (ethyl), water, witch hazel extract, glycerin, natural fragrances and aloe.

Because of the alcohol, it could be a little drying if it’s used a lot, but I think it’s less drying than Purell.

For now, Burt’s only sells it in small, travel-friendly 2-fl oz bottles, but I’m hoping to see larger refill bottles soon. LOVE THIS! Makeup and Beauty Blog Rating: A+

Groove *is* in the heart

Last night I hipped and hopped to my first dance class in months, but halfway through I was cursing the mirrors. I looked so uncoordinated from so many weird angles… It was almost too much to bear!

My dance teacher busted out a pretty fun routine, though, with Groove is in the Heart by Deee-lite. Remember that song? Seriously, I think it’s physically impossible to listen to it and not feel good. 🙂

How are things with you tonight? Anything new to report?

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

P.S. Soon, October will fade from memory, taking Breast Cancer Awareness off the front pages for another year. Many charities rely on funds raised this month to carry them through the rest of the year. Using this widget, if you can make even a small donation today, I’ll match you dollar-dollar up to $250 total, so your $2 could pack the fundraising power of $4! 🙂

Omg…how can people clean their butt in public?

I have a burt’s bee citrus hand soap as well, I think it’s a lot better than those softsoap or dove out there not to mention it smells really nice.

Ha ha ha ha, I use hand sanitizer mainly because I don’t like using the liquid soap in public bathrooms. The soap is always so smelly and usually ends in my itching at my hands because I have a rash! From soap!!! The only time I ever use the soap is if the bag of the soap says “hypo-allergenic” or something of the sort. Otherwise, it’s my rubbing alcohol smelling Purell followed by Aveeno lotion.

I was curious about this until I saw that is smelled like lemons. I tend to gag around citrus scents. It’s not that I’m allergic to them, but they remind me of all the EKGs, EEGs and Holter Monitor tests I’ve done as a child. They always use this strong citrus smelling spray that supposedly removes the adhesive from the sticky medical pads that have connectors for the wires. I can’t stand the smell. I love lemonade dearly but you’ll be hell-bent to see me squeezing lemons for lemonade.

I’m working on…essays. At 00:15 hours, no less. Why must all the teachers assign essays on the one week I have a concert? WHY????? I have to finish everything by Saturday. Not to mention a revision and rough draft this Thursday. GAH!!!

OMG! I am one of those girls……who carries a hand sanitizer in her purse. One consolation, its not obscenely large! Thank god. I loved Groove is in the Heart and will always feel happy listening to it. Thanks for the post Karen.

I’m one of the girls with the giant bottle of hand sanitizer…:$ I can’t help it, I took too many cell biology classes! I wonder if I’ll be able to find this in my area.

Haha, I do recall Dee-lite and that super pale lead singer with red hair. That songs so much fun 🙂

Hahah, I’m always that girl with a hand sanitizer!!! People might look at me weird but I just keep spraying! I used to use Purell (used to stock up every time I visited US) but now I’ve discovered my local pharmacy has a very nice spray sanitizer, and it’s great for traveling since it shaped like those laboratory test tubes!! And the best part is that it has a safety switch on so it can’t open in my bag…

I’m here enjoying my last 2 days in freezing Florence before I return home. It’s been a really marvelous trip, I’ve seen most of Italy!!

How does this compare to the Bath and Body Works sanitizers? I am diggin’ their new foaming ones and I like that they have the small pocket size gels. Those are so readily available and smell good that I tend to steer towards those.

I just found scented germ-X brand pocket hand sanitizers at Walmart last week. The blueberry ones are pretty great (currently what I’m carrying). Only 78 cents, too 🙂

Thanks for the recommendation! I’m mildly germophobic but I tend to stay away from hand sanitizers because the film they leave on my hands makes my hands feel dirty (I’m backwards, I know), especially if I can’t get to a bathroom to really wash my hands for a while. I am also trying to stay away from chemicals, so this is a great suggestion for me. I hope I can fond it. 🙂

I don’t have a habit of carrying around hand santiziers and my mom did insist on me carry one around during the height of the H1N1 crisis this past summer. When I was at London Drugs I remember the sales associate said all hand sanitizers were sold out LOL! I am constantly at or around makeup counters anyway, so I just use theirs!

Hmmm, I will have to check this out! I have one of the ones from B&BW but they smell a little weird. Lemons would be fabulous compared to .. earthy & bitter or vodka lol.

OMG I’m so the same way ! I always have a ton of antibacterial products on me, gel, lotion, wipes, you name it, I’ve got it. In general people are gross and I’m always paranoid about nasty germs !

Ohmygoodness, thanks for letting me know this product existed. I’m allergic to Vitamin E, which is in *everything* face, lip, or lotion related. I’m going to have to hunt some of this down!!!

Burt Bees have wonderful products. The witchhazel is great for the face. It makes it feel so fresh. It is also good for acne. My mom used it on me as a child. I love the lip balm for summer, I never have burned or chapped lips. I also have the small bar of facial soap and love that too. I love the fact that you can buy small quantities in gift sets. Hey Karen,
It is your number one fan, are you in California now. There are some great products on Lancome now. Would love to afford the new Genifique Youth Activating coverage and now they have the eye. A representative gave me a few samples which I have used up. I love it but it is not cheap. Hope you are having a nice time.
