Bright Lights, Sheer Lippies: Two New Gloss Fluo de Chanel Lipglosses for Summer 2010

March 31st, 2010 by Karen 35 Comments

WARNING: Do not stare directly at these tubes! Like liquid neon, both of the new Fluo de Chanel lipglosses ($27 each, available in May) may cause temporary blindness. 🙂

Pop (the shiny coral) and Laser (the shiny hot pink) are dressed to play for TEAM BRIGHTS this summer as part of Chanel’s Les Pop-Up de Chanel collection, and if I were to judge them on outward appearances, they’d look bright enough to require shades!

But…

Gloss Fluo in Pop

Gloss Fluo in Laser

Do they unleash a massive color assault? Not really. I was surprised by how sheer they apply. Like, HELLA SHEER!

I love their shine and slick (non-sticky), smooth texture, but I almost feel a little let down by the muted color.

For $27, and based on how bright they look in the tubes, I expected, I don’t know, something a little … brighter.

But the more I think about it, the more I think I see what Chanel was going for with these. In summer we usually see a move from rich pigments to tints and beauty products with lower levels of opacity. Ya know, stuff that feels lighter and looks almost invisible, like tinted moisturizers, gel blushes and body splashes. Maybe that’s what Chanel was going for here?

I usually covet punchy, pigmented glosses, but these leave a lighter kiss of pretty color instead (unflavored, no scent).

While the color may be easy to miss, the price is hard to ignore. Ye Olde Gloss Fluos are pricey, so if you decide to throw down for them, be cool with sheer color. At least we have some time to ponder before they arrive on Chanel counters this May. Makeup and Beauty Blog Rating: B

That IS really sheer…30 bucks (counting sale tax) is a tad bit too much for sheer glosses but it seems that the 2 bright lipstick from the line is really pretty though, I kind of wonder how they will turn out…

I think it’s supposed to appeal to a certain type of gloss lover. My BFF is crazy for the sheers because she has very full lips… she’d probably love these.

This collection is a total disappointment 🙁 I also didn’t like the nail polishes, they looked much better on the promo photos.
But the Spring one was amazing. I can only hope that the one for Fall will be great!

Aww, that’s a shame. I was going to suggest 3 Custom Color’s bright glosses for a similar look that’s slightly less sheer, but they’ve apparently been discontinued :(. They still have them in the form of sheer lipstick, but I like the glosses a lot better — shinier and more color. Grr.

A quick note from us at 3 Custom – So happy that you love out Light Brights Lip Gloss! We took it off the site but you can still special order the glosses. However, we definitely recommend using Light Brights Lipsticks with Crystal Clear Lip Gloss for a bright look with shine!

Are you a MAC fan? If you like corals you must try Lychee Luxe Lipglass!

I guess those glosses would be awesome for people with highly pigmented lips AND the moolah to spare… id probly give this one a pass …. it sure is cute tho!!!

These are pretty in the tube but I prefer more pigmented glosses like Chanel Rouge Allure Lacques. Though I think these will be great layering colours, I think I would just stick to my Victoria’s Secret Beauty Rush glosses or Lancome Juicy Tubes. They cost a bit less and taste delicious.

Aren’t they supposed to glow in blacklight? That’s why they’re called Fluo. I believe Chanel already released fluo glosses some years ago.

It’s boring that they’re so sheer … but they look like something I’d like to drink, haha. Like, they look like they’d be the perfect color for a really fruity, lovely cocktail, or like super tasty popsicles.

Given the sheerness I don’t think I’ll buy one. Although I’ve gotta admit, if they’d had them in blue, I’d’ve been over that thing like white on rice. I am a SUCKER for blue gloss! (Yes, sucker – popsicles – hahaha, my punny sense of humor is the WORST!)

I have fluos from before and they are supposed to glow in black light, at least thats what I was told. I havent tried it out, but I still like them. They had a really bright but sheer hot pink that was an easy way to wear a pop of bright color without going overboard.
