Bobbi Brown Quick Face Collection: Long-Wear Cream Shadow Swatches

April 7th, 2008 by Karen 29 Comments

For most of us, Monday means having to go back to work (drat!), but it doesn’t also have to mean forsaking cute makeup. Take a gander at the Long-Wear Cream Shadows from Quick Face, Bobbi Brown’s (le queen of the neutral makeup) latest collection. What do ya think?

Matte and shimmerless, these bad boys apply easily by finger or brush (I used the MAC 252). I felt they did an admirable job adding subtle definition to my eyes. Wear each color by itself or beneath layers of other powdered shadows.

There are five colors in the collection:

  • Cement – grey beige
  • Malted – mocha beige
  • Navajo – creamy pinkish white
  • Slate – medium grey
  • Stone – beige brown

From left to right: Cement, Malted, Navajo, Slate and Stone

Their texture reminds me of the texture of MAC’s Paint Pots, with the softness of each shade varying within the different colors. Navajo and Cement feel drier and chalkier than Slate, Stone and Navajo do.

Matte neutral eyeshadows won’t always set the world on fire — I usually reach for more bam! and shimmer than these shades deliver — but when circumstances call for a sophisticated look (read: subtle), I’ll reach for these.

Purchase Bobbi Brown Long-Wear Cream Shadow at your favorite Bobbi Brown Counter or online.

Hey, guys. I’m having a rough Monday so far. I could barely get it together in time to finish this post and had to call upon the powers-that-be just to get out of bed.

Do you have any tricks that you use to get yourself into a better mood when Mondays really feel like … Mondays?

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

Ugh I hear you – why did it take me almost an HOUR to find parking at my school?!?! I need some aromatherapy or something. I think something like that could help lower that monday feeling.

I have a few Monday tricks. One is Emergen-C which is this fizzy powder which is like 1000 times the daily value of Vitamin-C. This is a new trick for me…but my doctor recommended it a month or two ago when there were like a million things going around. I started drinking it once a day when people around me were sick or if I started to feel like I might and it really just made me feel great. I don’t know…maybe it’s all in my head because I don’t think vitamin C is really supposed to give you any kind of energy, but it really did pick me up and kept me from getting sick. TIP – mix it with juice, not with water. If you mix it with water it has a vitamin like after taste. The other thing I tend to do is plan to go out for lunch (versus hitting the cafeteria in the building with the angry Thai man who charges for Ketchup…sometimes he gives me a case of the Mondays)and opt to get something that I like…typically a nice salad or something…that gives me something to look forward to so I can push through the morning. The other thing I tend to do if I’m feeling particularly mondayish is to look aheada couple weeks and schedule a monday off… which btw would be next week for me. 🙂 Personally I always have a bank of vacation time…so this one works fine for me and it seems to make the day feel better knowing that next week or two weeks from now I’ll be able to sleep in and do whatever I want. 🙂

Keep pushing! You’ll make it! I hope you feel better.

BTW I like the colors…but I try to mix it up some. I’m not all about boring practicality at work 🙂

    You mean besides chocolate? 😉

I’ve been wondering about the BB cream shadows, especially since I like cream shadows in general; my problem, though, is that even the “non-creasing” ones (Benefit, etc.) crease on me! I’ve heard that Paint Pots don’t crease (and Bobbi Brown says her cream shadows don’t crease, either), but I haven’t tried them yet. Any advice?

Get a dog! He’ll bark or whine, and you’ll kind of hear it at oh, 6:45am or so… and then you’ll feel like a total ass if you laze around too long because you know his poor bladder needs release.

aw, I’m sorry you are having a rough Monday. I get a case of the Mondays too-I took so long dragging myself out of bed this morning i have on ZERO makeup, and my bed head hair is in pony/bun thing.

I guess for tricks I’d say plan to meet friends for lunch, if your work schedule allows it, or plan to make an awesome dinner that night (or ask the hubby to take you out–even better). I was going to wear my new shoes today (they are super cheery), but it’s snowing. argh. this dreary weather totally doesn’t help with the getting out of bed Mondays situation I listed in the above paragraph.

But, I’ve made it-almost time to go home! And, your awesome posts just totally cheered me up (but I’m jealous you’ve gotten all these!)-what did you think? I love bobbi brown’s cream eyeshadows. And I’m so happy to see the “real” swatches, instead of the little fake blob-squares they use on her website, LOL. But now, I kinda want cement in addition to malted (I’m FOR SURE going to get malted….eventually)

((virtual hug))-hope you feel better soon!

I just don’t think I can quite hang with neutral AND matte! A little shimmer, pearl or pop of color next to the lashes can add pizazz and still qualify as office-friendly!

    My Monday tricks are:
    1. Spritz a little pick-me-up fragrance (varies according to mood)
    2. Use a pop of cheery lipgloss
    3. Crank one of my favorite tunes in the car
    and if all else fails…
    4. Swing by my favorite bakery for one of their super-strong cups o’ coffee and a to-die-for cheese puff fresh from the oven! 🙂

    Hi Megan,

Girl, thank you for these tips. Seriously, they are wonderful. I will try the Emergen-C trick… I am totally down with feeling better on Monday even if it might be just a placebo. I think next Monday I will schedule something fun to look forward to in the afternoon, like a trip to a nice cafe for afternoon tea, where I can just sit and read a book.

Enjoy your Monday off next week! Are you doing anything fun or special that day, or just relaxing?

Thank you again and I will keep pushing if you will!

    Hi Jeanne,

Yup, although chocolate does cure most Monday ills sometimes it just ain’t enough! But it sure helps…

One thing you can do to prevent creasing is use Urban Decay Potion Primer underneath your cream shadows. They won’t move for nothin’! The only thing is that UDPP makes it harder to blend colors, so I’d only use it if I’m doing a simple eye without lots of colors and blending.

    Hi Iheartmakeup,

Hey sweetie, I dunno what happened to the comments earlier but all three of them came through. The server’s been slow lately (ugh) so it might look like it’s cutting off your comments, but it all gets in there.

Anyway, I hope you had a good Monday!

    Hi Glosslizard,

You said the magic words: coffee and cheese. YUMMMM

I hear ya on needing some shimmer. The neutral and matte combo is too 90s supermodel makeup for me, and I am NOT ready to go back there quite yet!

    Hi Amanda,

OH boy! Monday and no makeup — that’s rough, girl! I have those days way too often, too. Thanks for these fabulous tips. They are really going to be helpful. Next Monday I plan on treating myself to a trip to a cafe after work so that I can read and veg with a cup of tea for a while. I’m really going to look forward to that. 🙂

I liked the cream shadows more than I thought I would! It’s rare when I want to do just plain matte & neutral shadows, but for days when I just want a little bit of emphasis (like if I’m doing bright lips) these will do nicely. One thing I’ve really been loving lately is a matte brow bone so I think these will look great for that too! BTW, Malted would look really beautiful on you!!! Nice choice 🙂

Big hugs back to ya, girlie!

Oh no! I know how it is to fall in love with far & away cosmetics! There are so many Paul & Joe items that I heartily lust after that are only sold in Japan *tears*.

Glad that I can entertain you while you’re in class! Now get back to note taking, young lady! J/K!!! BTW, what are you studying?

Ah it’s nice to have a few of these subtle colors – especially for travel! I brought my Painterly paint pot and my trusty Rimmel eye shadow quad to create basic looks all weekend while I was out of town. Boy do I wish I had Malted in my makeup bag too! 🙂

I was quite lucky yesterday. I was planning on skipping class (haha, laziness) then my college admin called and told me that class was canceled. Hell yeah. 🙂

But on shitty Mondays, I treat myself to a plate of dessert. Preferably something that’s cold and with cream. 🙂

    Hi Megan,

Thanks girlfriend. I hope you enjoy your day off and do something relaxing and enjoyable.

So for next Monday I’ve got the following plan: Emergen-C in my juice, followed by visit to the cafe after work, followed by brownie pick up for dessert that evening!
