Bobbi Brown Holiday 2008 Limited Edition Palettes

October 6th, 2008 by Karen 46 Comments

I know it’s early October, and you probably haven’t even picked out a pumpkin to carve, but all the makeup lines are unveiling their new palettes and sets for the holidays. They want you festive, dammit, whether you’re ready or not! 🙂

Yup, Bobbi Brown is starting early this year, releasing a string of limited edition palettes this month.

  • Lip and Eye Palette, $60: A double decker palette with four lipsticks and four eye shadows
  • Lip Gloss Trio, $45: A copper case with Spun Gold, Pink Glitter and Sandy Beige lipglosses
  • Moon Rock Long-Wear Eye Palette, $55: Two long-wearing cream shadows and liners in shades of gold, silver, black and chestnut
  • Night Sky Long-Wear Eye Palette, $55: Two long-wearing cream shadows and liners in silver, blue, black and gray.
  • Velvet Plum Eye Palette, $45: Four coordinating powder eye shadows in plums and neutral tones
  • Tube Tints Set, $30: Four mini-lipgloss tubes, each with SPF 15, in sheer pinks and browns

Last weekend I played with the Tube Tints Set, Night Sky Long-Wear Eye Palette and Velvet Plum Eye Palette. I think each would make a nice gift for any makeup lovin’ ladies in your life.

Velvet Plum Eye Palette

A few years ago, when I worked a 9-to-5 gig in downtown San Francisco, I’d bring my makeup and brushes with me to work and apply makeup in the bathroom on my breaks. I’ve always had issues packing light, even for work, so streamlined I was not. I’d walk around looking like I had a turkey stuffed in my bag. If I could turn back time, I’d totally give myself this palette along with a note that read, “Streamline, girl!”

From left to right: Bone, Naked, Velvet Plum, Espresso

This gorgeous palette contains four versatile powder eye shadows suitable for business meetings or drinks after work.

    Bone Eye Shadow: off white
Naked Eye Shadow: medium neutral pink
Velvet Plum Eye Shadow: shimmery black plum
Espresso Eye Shadow: dark chocolate brown

Neutral work eye:
Apply Bone all over the lid and Naked into the crease. Wet an angled brush and then line the upper and lower lash lines with Espresso.

Plum night eye:
Wet a shadow brush, and apply Velvet Plum onto the lid and just barely into the crease. Then, with an angled eye brush, line the bottom lash line with Espresso.

Brown-plum smokey eye:
Line upper and lower lashlines with a creamy eye liner like MAC Smolder. Smudge Espresso on top of the liner on both lash lines. Then, apply Plum on the lid and just into the crease.

Out of the three palettes I tried, this one is my favorite. It’s just so flexible, and the colors pop without taking things too far. Gotta give Bobbi much lurve for this one. Go girl!

Tube Tints Set

From left to right: Brown Sugar Shimmer, Posey Shimmer, Bare Shimmer and Tea Rose

Aren’t these lil’ chubbies cute? Each applies sheer with subtle color and shine.

  • Brown Sugar Shimmer: medium brown
  • Posey Shimmer: light icy pink
  • Bare Shimmer: golden peach
  • Tea Rose: brown rose

The Tube Tints taste minty (but not overwhelmingly so), protect lips with SPF 15 and each stays put for about an hour and a half.

Brown Sugar Shimmer

Posey Shimmer

Bare Shimmer

Tea Rose

This would make a really nice gift for a lucky homegirl bound for the tropics this winter (that lucky beeyotch!).

Night Sky Long-Wear Eye Palette

While the blue, silver and black shades in the Night Sky Long-Wear Eye Palette are pretty on thier own, I like this palette mostly because the cream shadows and gel liners complement a wide variety of powder eye shadow shades.

  • Rockstar Long-Wear Cream Shadow: medium silver
  • Ocean Storm Long-Wear Cream Shadow: medium blue with shimmer
  • Black Ink Long-Wear Gel Eyeliner: jet black
  • Thunder Storm Long-Wear Gel Eyeliner: black with golden pearl

Rockstar and Ocean Storm both have similar color payoff and texture to Benefit Creaseless Cream Shadows. Black Ink and Thunder Storm remind me of MAC Fluidline liners but are a touch creamier and blendable.

My spider senses tell me that Night Sky will make sweet makeup music with the Chanel Smoky, Chanel Bleu Celestes and MAC Gentle Fume palettes.

If your makeup collection includes lots of blues, blacks and grays, Night Sky would make a fabulous investment.

So, girlfriend, what do you think? How has Bobbi Brown done with her holiday palettes this year?

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

mmm, love these. I actually have a mini posey shimmer in my purse right now (from a previous tube tint set). I’ve been drooling over the long wear palettes, I love all the BB cream shadows and liners that I have. i think I’m going to get one of the palettes to take on my cruise. Right now I’m thinking of moon rock since the colors are a “tad” more neutral. 🙂

    Hi Tali,

Thunder Storm is my *favorite* item from that palette. It has very pretty, fine glitter that would look fab just by itself on the lid. I would totally buy it separately…

How cute! I put her in my purse this morning, too, cause I like to switch up my lipgloss through the day (gotta love variety)

I am auditioning palettes for my trip in November right now, too! 🙂

Karen, you should totally check the new Tarte holiday 2008 items! They’re viewable on Sephora’s site right now! There’s a palette called “The Vanity” that’s in the same style as the We Wish You Wealth palette from last year (16 shadows, 16 lipglosses, but this time, the bottom tier has 4 powder blushes, a bronzer, a luminizer, and a little tube of Lights, Camera, Lashes mascara), a gorgeous lipgloss set with 9 mini glosses in a clutch, and a mini cheekstain set in three pretty colors. 🙂

    I *heart* Bobbi Brown.

I think the only thing I don’t want out of all of those is the Velvet Plum Eye Pallete because I already have some of those colors.

Lately I’ve been obsessed with the Shimmering Nudes palette… it’s my go-to eye palette right now.

    Thanks for the reviews, Karen!

Sometimes it’s just fun to add to your makeup list! Maybe put the colors on so that when do you have some chump change in the future you can pick it up?

    Have a great week!

    Hi Karen,

I love the Night Sky and Plum Eye Palettes. Heck, who am I kidding, I love them all lol. I don’t have much Bobbi Brown in my collection, except a lipgloss who name escapes me at the moment. But it looks like I wil have to change that. I can totally relate to bag overstuffed with cosmetics. What can I say? I like variety..

    Have a great week

P.S. What is the infamous black pearl gloss? I have to know!

Hope you’re having a good night… I’m about to have some dinner in a few and then settle in for Terminator and The Hills!

    Hi Tami!

Oh… the BLACK PEARL! If you say its name out loud you have to pretend you’re Elmer J. Fudd for the full effect (“bwack pewl”). It was a limited edition gloss released a few months ago with the BB Mauve Collection. It’s a very uncharacteristic color for Bobbi — grey and purple for the lips! You can see it in the Mauve Collection post, just scroll down a few pics. 🙂

Responding to your question from an earlier post… Im not doing much for my birthday. Going to work (psyc. hospital), going to school (grad school) and then having Taco Night (homemade YUM) with the Hubster and parents! Pretty exciting stuff! LOL.

This is kind of a tough week for me (when is it ever not anymore?). To soften the blows, I am taking a trip to Ulta tmrw to find a couple new OPI colors for fall. ^.^

I love those gel liners, by the way. I’ve never tried to use gel liners via brush before.. I have recently started using liquid liner a lot lately– too bad I still can’t figure out how to make it look good under my eyes, or if I’m even supposed to put it on there. My lashes always get in the way and it’s just a mess. Sorry for the rambles.. it’s 1 in the morning and I have had a crazy day. Have a fab night! =)

SO MY MISSION THIS WEEK (IF I CHOOSE TO ACCEPT AND I WILL LOL) IS TO FIND THIS COLOR. ALTHOUGH I DON’T OWN ANY CURE ALBUMS, I WILL PLAY AMY WINEHOUSE WHILE PERFECTING MY SMUDGY EYE LOOK. THAT AND WORK ON THE ELMER FUDD IMPERSONATION. THANKS FOR THE INFO…

    Hi Jessica,

I hope that you get through this week okay. I hear you about tough weeks… I know those all too well.

I am not the biggest fan of liquid liners (a la MAC Liquidlast). They do last a long time, especially on the waterline, but I don’t always like the finish and they usually don’t smudge the way I want them to. I did find one a few weeks back that was pretty easy to use, even in the lower lash line area by JK for Jemma Kidd. The brush that came with the product was user friendly, too. Let me know if you want me to re-post a link to the review here.

What brush do you use with your gel liners? I’ve heard great things about the bent eyeliner brush from Sonia Kashuk, but I can never find it when I go to Target.

    Hi Karen,

If you’re looking for a good plum mascara, you might try Blinc Kiss Me mascara in Purple. Blinc has fairly good lengthening, but not a lot of volume, but it stays put really well. The mascara forms little tubes around your lashes. I have very sensitive eyes and Blinc’s mascara doesn’t flake on me, and it doesn’t irritate my eyes at all. It’s pretty expensive ($24 for a tube), but for me, it’s worth it (watery, irritated eyes are never in style).
