Bobbi Brown Beach Club: These Long-Wearing Eyeshadows Aren’t for Members Only

June 14th, 2010 by Karen 37 Comments

There’s one Bobby Brown for recipes that call for cheese (as in cheesy ’90s R&B), and another Bobbi Brown for recipes that call for long lasting cream shadows.

Fellow fans of the later’s Long-Wear and Metallic Long-Wear shadows depend on their smooth, non-creasing formula when quick, elegant eye looks are on the menu. For this summer’s Beach collection, Chef Bobbi’s cooked up five new Long-Wear shadows, these with an ocean theme ($22 each).

They washed up on shore a few weeks ago, spotted at Bobbi Brown counters and BobbiBrownCosmetics.com. I’ve been wearing a few of the colors lately, and like a sunny day at the beach, these don’t disappoint. Each delivers a quick wash of durable color that lasts from that first gulp of coffee to that last sip of Sleepytime tea.

Shore (a neutral nude), the matte shade above, ended up being my favorite of the bunch. For a clean, elegant Angelina Jolie-esque look, try Shore all over your lids (it applies well with fingers), adding a thick line of dark blue or black eyeliner along your upper lash line. When I gave the look a try I felt chic and almost grown up, ooh la la!

Oh, and about the shimmery shades, Surf (the shimmery light blue) and Opal (the shimmery iridescent pink), they tend to get chunky and cake if/when I over-apply, so that’s just something to keep in mind. I think less is definitely better with these metallics.

I adore all of the new colors and how effortlessly they apply. Neutral lovahs, check out Shore on your next trip to a Bobbi Brown counter. I think it’s totes worth your time. Makeup and Beauty Blog Rating: B+

You might like Bobbi Brown Beach Long-Wear Shadows if…

  • You like easy-to-apply cream shadows that can go the distance
  • You’re on the market for a new nude shade (Shore)
  • You dig the colors and the ocean theme

Speaking of the beach…

Waikiki, Oahu (as you can tell from the frequent pics, one of my favorite places!)

It feels like forever since I’ve been to the beach…

Where I live here in the Bay Area, the closest one’s about half an hour away, but it’s not exactly tropical. It’s prone to gusts of frigid wind, and the water’s usually too cold and rough to go swimming, blech!

I miss the warm waters of Hawaii and the feel of sand between my toes. I got so desperate today that I tried on my swimsuit in the living room, and, oooh, gurl! I need to lay off the Nutella! 🙂

Do you remember your last trip to the beach? Where did you go? If you say, “the Jersey Shore,” you know I have to make a Snookie joke, right?

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

Thanks for the review, Karen! How do these compare to MAC’s Paint Pots and Benefit’s Creaseless Cream Shadow/Liner?

These are closer to MAC Paint Pots… they have a similar dense, dry texture. The Benefit Creaseless Creams feel softer and fluffier.

I think these wear slightly better than the MAC Paint Pots. Sometimes I have trubs creasing with the PPs, but never with these.

I just picked up some BB foundation but now I feel like I need to return to my Nordstrom counter and get some of these! Yum! Cream shadow is still the only cream product I can handle though – cream blush still seems too daunting LOL.

      Hi Caitlin,

Cream blush is pretty easy! All you need is clean fingers to apply and blend. Pop the product onto fresh skin, on top of foundation… even on powder! Once you start using them you’ll be hooked.

I live by the seaside, but I’m not really a beach person. The beaches here up North are not so great, close to me at least, and I’m not used to salty water. I’m a lake person. However, one of the best beaches I’ve been to was in Dubai. I loved the long sand beaches – until I stepped on some raw oil a tanker had dropped off (?). That stuff is just horrendous, you can’t get it off with anything!

Thanks for the swatches! I’ve been looking at these lately but wasnt so sure how they’d look when applied. They look so pretty and the colours definately remind me of the beach. Like yourself, i havent been to the beach in awhile! the closest one to where i live is in vancouver, which means either an 11 hour drive or a 1 hour plane ride… not exactly the closest place to go to! 🙁 Maybe these oceany shades will help bring back a memory from the beach 🙂 thanks!

It’s the same for me, the closest beach would be in Vancouver lol…
Luckily the last time I went to the beach was just a few weeks ago. I was in Spain and we only got one day to go to the beach, but the weather was perfect! 🙂

I saw them 2 weeks ago and I fell in love. Although I am no fan pf cream eyeshadows and I thing most effects such products make there is always a powdery one, that is better, cheaper, longer lasting. However, these were so nice. I think I become lazy and sometimes I just want to swipe with miy finger over the lid – no brushes, no shading. And these colors are so pretty. I think I need one. Or two…

I love Shore, such a pretty color!
Last time I was on the beach was yesterday- benefits of living on the Mediterranean coast!
The sea is so nice and warm but I can’t seem to catch any tan–maybe because I keep in the shade and wear 50SPF all the time… But can’t wait to get to my island house where there’re no tourists, and it’s not crowded…

    Shore and Moonstone are lovely!

We went to the beach last year … it wasnt awesome but it was a beach. The beaches here in Tx arent all that great.

The year before last, my friend got married @ Coronado Beach in San Diego – that beach was awesome! Cold, but so worth it! 🙂

Really? I’ve read that there’s some good surfing at a few of the TX beaches and always assumed that the beaches were/are equally as nice.

As for Coronado Beach… it’s gorgeous! I went there a few years ago for a wedding, too.

I bet You miss Hawaii, every time You post a pic, I start planning to move there, lol. It’s gorge. 🙂

There was a while there when I was seriously thinking about moving! It would be really hard to leave my family here in the Bay Area, though.

If you end up moving there you better let me know!! 😀

    Hey Karen,

My husband is from NJ and yes a trip down the Shore is in my near future! We took our daughter to the beach in Pacifica on Saturday (it was beautiful!!) and she was not having it! I guess she was feeling the hot sand. I am hoping to try again the next time it’s sunny – hopefully we won’t have to wait too long till the next heatwave strikes us!

My favourites are Opal and Shore. I haven’t been to the beach since last July. I think it was a bit before that crazy heat wave of 32 C + degrees we have up here for almost a week straight. Normally the water stays fairly cool here in the Northwest even in the summer, though inland it may be pretty warm.
