Benefit the Overnighter: Covering Your Bum Since 2008!

December 10th, 2008 by Karen 19 Comments

Being married, I’m gonna wager a guess that I wasn’t in Benefit’s target market for the Overnighter Set ($38).

Designed for life’s “unexpected sleepovers,” (I think the technical term is booty call, haaay) it comes with four pieces of mini-makeup and a cute pair o’ drawers.

Even the happily betrothed/attached can still appreciate a cute pair o’ drawers.

Speaking of drawers, these are frilly black and magenta and made by Hanky Panky. If you’ve never heard of Hanky Panky before … you need to remedy that ASAP, girl. I think they make the most comfortable bum floss EVER! They’re one of those gifts that keeps on giving.

This set is all about flirty wordplay. Take the Justine Case (“just in case,” get it?), for example, designed to keep all your booty call booty safe and sound, LOL! — perfect for the single and ready to mingle. 🙂

But what about the makeup?

From left to right: California Kissin’, Eyecon, Benetint, Some Kind-a Gorgeous

  • California Kissin’: This minty, shimmery, sheer blue gloss is supposed to vanquish dragon breath and whiten teeth in one fell swoop! I didn’t really notice a difference in the color of my teeth, but I do like the minty taste and moisturizing formula. Makeup and Beauty Blog Rating: B
  • Eyecon: Benefit says this lightweight eye cream fades dark circles, instantly brightening eyes and softening the appearance of fine lines. I like the texture, but I’ve been using it for a week and haven’t really noticed a difference (granted, a week may not be long enough to see the intended results). Makeup and Beauty Blog Rating: B
  • Benetint: This liquid, rose-colored cheek and lip tint is an old school favorite of mine. Blending three dots on my cheek bones with my fingertip creates a pretty flushed pink cheek that lasts all day. Makeup and Beauty Blog Rating: A+
  • Some Kind-a Gorgeous: I like the sheerness and the smooth texture of this sheer, cream-to-powder foundation. It evens skin color and eliminates redness, but the color’s just a touch too light for me to use all over my face. I do like it, though, around my eyes, to hide dark circles and to brighten up the eye area. Makeup and Beauty Blog Rating: A

A Fun Stocking Stuffer for Your Single BFF

My friend Cindy asked me to get her a hot surfer dude for Christmas. I’m gonna try my best, but if I come up short she’s getting the Benefit the Overnighter set instead. It’s a fun, cheeky holiday stocking stuffer — another great gift idea from Benefit.

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

That is a cute kit, clever marketing, but I’d probably skip it for me personally. But I do think it would make an adorable gift!

Thanks so much for doing a review on California Kissin’! I will have to think about it more now that you gave it a ‘B.’
I agree with you about eyecon, I have been using it for about 2 months now and I don’t see any difference. But maybe that’s because I see myself every day and I wouldn’t notice?

    Yup! I think so, too.

    Hi Nessa,

It’s pretty much a clear, minty gloss. It’s not sticky and non-drying, which is nice, though. 🙂

    LOL re the Eyecon!

What other Benefit products do you like? I like Gilded and all of the Creaseless Cream Shadows!

Love the creaseless creams, I use one as my eyeshadow base and it’s awesome.
I went on a Benefit kick after I got a makeover at an Ulta by the Benefit girl. I went online and got the creaseless cream shadow, eyecon, erase paste (I use it with a little eyecon, just to make it go on smoother), powderflage (I use it over erase paste and foundation for xtra coverage), and I bought the bath cap (sooo cute!)
I also got 2 samples of you rebel tinted moisturizer and I loooooovvvvveeeee it!! Since it is so dry out, it keeps my moisturized and non-scaly. I am waiting for my next paycheck b/c I just ran-out of it and I need my fix ($30/tube).
Then my next big splurge will be Miss Popularity. Have you tried it?

    Hi Nessa,

I go through kicks like that too!

I haven’t tried Miss Popularity. I like the old school highlighters — Moon Beam and High Beam. High Beam looks *awesome* on the cheeks when blended with a few dots of Benetint. It’s an easy way to get glowy, flushed cheeks.

Which Creaseless Cream shades do you have? I have Birthday Suit, Skinny Jeans and Gossip. I got my eye on Busy Signal and Toasted Mauve!

When I got the makeover, I believe she put posietint on my lips and it was an awesome sheer color that stayed on surprisingly long and didn’t feel like I was wearing anything. When she brought it out I guess I had a freaked out look on my face b/c she told me she was going to put it on my lips and it looked like nailpolish! But I really liked it.

I’m not sure which one I have, it was on clearance. It’s just like Birthday Suit just a little darker.

    Hi Nessa,

Funny, that’s happened to me, too, with Benetint. I put it on in front of my friend once and she freaked out — “Why are you putting nail polish on your face!”

I haven’t tried Posietint, because I always just assumed it would be too light on me. I’ll have to try it on my lips, though!

Eyecon takes a little while to work, but it really does. I had horrible under eye circles and it got rid of most of them after consistant use. It took about 6 months, but it was worth it. Also, the Some Kind-a Gorgeous comes in a darker shade now. It’s a great makeup that goes on creamy and dries as a powder. It doesn’t cause breakouts, even on oily skin.

wow! I’m waaaay too conservative to ever make use of something like that, but it’s hilarious even so! I wish all my female friends hadn’t moved away or I’d gag gift them!

Aww, hahahahahaha. I know someone this would be so (not) perfect for!! I send her a VS thong every birthday (to help her build up a collection for when she finally needs it) and this would be just too cute!

I’m a great fan of Some Kind-a Gorgeous! It’s my fav foundation when I need something fast and natural. There’s a darker version of it, if you feel like giving it a try.
Hope you and Tabs are doing great! Hugs :3

This was HILARIOUS! What a cute idea. Not something I’d buy for myself but what a great idea for a single BFF. Can’t you just see the gals from Sex In The City exchanging this as a gift?? Too cute 🙂

So cute! Benefit always has the cutest packaging, but I’ve never been a fan. I feel like they overcharge their products, and they always underperform 🙁

I want that case SO BAD, but mostly because my name is Justine. And no one ever uses it or spells my name right. Like I can never find my name on those custom objects (pens, etc)… it’s always Justin 🙁

Justine´s last blog post..I WILL make an effort to post more…. in 2009.

Hi there! I’m Karen, your friendly neighborhood beauty addict, and I’m a Bay Area girl who hoards brown eyeshadow and covets coral lipstick. Every morning, I wake up and say, “I’m going to do something other than a smoky eye today.” Then…I end up doing a smoky eye anyway (most days). When I’m not putting on makeup, taking pictures of makeup or writing about makeup, which I’ve been doing daily since 2007 (!), you’ll find me hanging out with my hubby (“El Hub”), my four-year-old daughter (Connor Claire) and my torbie girl cat (Pretty Girl Rosie, a.k.a.
