I Raise My Glass to BECCA’s $38 Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed in Champagne Gold

November 13th, 2014 by Karen 14 Comments

BECCA Champagne Gold

Just FYI, keep your BECCA Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed in Champagne Gold ($38) away from any flocks of wild canaries, because they could potentially mistake it for one of their own.

Don’t worry, this highlighter isn’t for the birds. Yeah, it looks jarringly yellow in swatches and the pan (at least I thought so at first), but it’s a totally different story on skin.

BECCA Champagne Gold

That’s where the magic happens…

The finish starts sharp and frosty, but transforms into a gauzy veil of pearly gold once it’s buffed in.

Talk about flattering. Hello, candlelit skin.

Wearing BECCA Champagne Gold on my upper cheekbones, the inner corners of my eyes, and just above and below my brow bone

It’s actually difficult to make this look bad, LOL! I purposefully packed an obscene amount on my upper cheekbones, just to see if I could make it go all cray-cray-frosty (which my pores and fine lines hate, bah!), but I think it still looked pretty refined and graceful.

It reminds me of the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powders…just a dreamy, hazy sheen.

PRICE: $38
AVAILABILITY: Limited edition, and available now online and at BECCA counters.
MAKEUP AND BEAUTY BLOG RATING: A

Wild Birds Unlimited

Speaking of canaries…I don’t think I’ve ever seen a wild canary. Not once. But wild parrots? Yes.

When I worked in downtown SF, I was within walking distance of North Beach where San Francisco’s wild parrots live, and sometimes on my lunch breaks my friend and I would climb the Filbert steps for exercise and see parrots in the trees.

‘Twas very cool!

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

We had some co-workers visiting from the UK and Seattle so we decided to show them where the parrots were so we climbed the stairs all the way to COIT tower from the ferry building only to discover they weren’t there. My friend told me the day we went there to see them they were actually outside her window in a different part of the city.

The highlighter is pretty on you 🙂

Those stairs are no joke! When my friend and I used to work out on them we’d go up and down two times. By the end of it I was always sweaty!

How was kickboxing? Did you have a good workout?

This is one colour that is missing from my highlighter collection. Any dupes colour wise?

It does look very yellow in the pan but it’s really beautiful on you!

There’s a lot of wild parrots in San Diego too. Sometimes they fly around in my neighborhood, those birds are LOUD!

I wasn’t sure about this one because it’s a rather yellow gold, but it looks great on you and if you recommend it so highly, I have to reconsider!

A fool-proof highlighter sounds like something I need. I have had to many disco ball moments in my life.

I thought this would be a Dior Shock-like disaster, but nope, it looks really lovely on your skin, despite looking very yellow in the pan!

It is super pretty and definitely didn’t cross over into Tweetie Town. I didn’t realize you had a wild parrot population in SF. I can’t say I’m an enormous bird fan but parrots are beautiful. 🙂

    Aloha from Hawaii,

I just used this highlighter for the first time this morning. I like it but it did come off pretty yellow on my tan olive skin, but I like to look golden 😉 It reminds me of Nars Albatross. I haven’t swatched them together, but from memory I think they are similar.
PS- loved your post about the cat lady holy trinity! That is so what i’m shooting for with every cat I meet and when it happens it feels so great!

Did someone say ‘Wild Parrots’? WHERE? WHERE? Karen, I DEMAND PICTURES of these feather dusters!! Yes, I am an animal nut. I will admit that I did buy a “Birds of Hawaii” book while I was in Hawaii so I could do some bird watching (was very disappointed as I only saw wild roosters). I have also been known to run across the street without looking while in Austrailia just to take a picture and to catch a glimse of their wild parrots.

It looks like “Gold” is everywhere in the world of make up. I like it but I still love Chanel.

    HAPPY FRIDAY!!

Hugs from the Great Up North!!!

This looks so scary & intimidating in the pan! I mean, it’s beautiful & super pretty to look at, but man does it look frightening. I do like that you find it comparable to the Hour Glass Ambient highlights.

I bought the palette last week & I’m enjoying playing with it and learning the many ways to apply it ☺️

Welcome to Makeup and Beauty Blog
Hi there! I’m Karen, your friendly neighborhood beauty addict, and I’m a Bay Area girl who hoards brown eyeshadow and covets coral lipstick. Every morning, I wake up and say, “I’m going to do something other than a smoky eye today.” Then…I end up doing a smoky eye anyway (most days). When I’m not putting on makeup, taking pictures of makeup or writing about makeup, which I’ve been doing daily since 2007 (!), you’ll find me hanging out with my hubby (“El Hub”), my four-year-old daughter (Connor Claire) and my torbie girl cat (Pretty Girl Rosie, a.k.a.
