Wearing Smashbox Be Discovered Cream Cheek Trio in Show Biz
To someone with survival training, including the Smashbox Be Discovered Cream Cheek Trios ($29 each) in my zombie apocalypse survival kit probably makes about as much sense as a Shake Weight, but believe you me, if the dead one day rise, I will not go down without a fight, and I won’t evacuate without bringing at least a little bit of makeup.
El Hub laughs, but it’s the truth. (SIDE NOTE: I used to work with a woman who wore false lashes every single day, even once when she had to go in for surgery! Now that’s what I’m talking about.)
The two new trios are part of the Smashbox Be Discovered collection for spring 2012, and since they fit in the palm of a hand, it’s not like they’d take up much space in a typical survival kit. There’d still be plenty of room left for peanut butter, toilet paper and various kinds of weaponry.
Tabs might even let me stash them in his cat carrier (along with his Fancy Feast in gravy, of course). 🙂
Both trios come with two cream blushes and a cream highlighter. The first, In Lights, leans warm, while the second one, Show Biz, leans cool.
If I happen to run out of room to pack brushes, no problem. With these, I could always rely on my fingers to apply and blend. Not only would it be easier, but it would also keep my hands free to wield a machete for zombie self-defense.
I’ve had trouble with some cream blushes sliding off my skin, but not these. They latch on like zombie teeth and don’t let go for nothin’!

Since moisturizer may be hard to come by after Z-Day, it’s a good thing these apply so evenly and don’t emphasize any dry, flaky patches on my cheeks.
I am a little concerned about the sheer highlighters, though… If I assume we end up living off the land somewhere remote (El Hub thinks we should avoid population centers), I’ll probably get a killer tan, and because the highlighters aren’t heavily pigmented, they may not show up well if my skin turns a darker shade of caramel.
Oh, well. In a zombie apocalypse, I guess I’ll just have to make do. 🙂

MAKEUP AND BEAUTY BLOG RATING: A
Beautiful things
I saw this pic today and just had to share. It’s of a snow leopard and her cub, and it was taken with a remote camera on a peak in Afghanistan’s Sarkund Valley by the Wildlife Conservation Society, an organization that works to save wildlife and wild places worldwide.
It’s supposed to be quite a rare thing to spot these big cats in the wild, let alone capture them on digital film.
I love the mama cat’s intense eyes and the curve of both of their tails. Such beautiful animals.
Speaking of beauty, have you had a chance to check out the new MAC, Naturally and Iris Apfel collections?
I’m drooling over MAC, Naturally’s (gosh, that comma makes things so awkward) neutral colors and have my eyes on the Mineralize Shadows, Blushes, Skinfinishes and that nifty-looking 286 Duo Fibre Blending Brush.
I hope the rest of your day went off without a hitch. Hopefully you were able to sneak in a little fun. 🙂
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

Ahh! Pretty pretty 😉 I’ll have to check these for ‘cones, because both shades (er… all six shades?) look lovely.
& bleh, I know what you mean about MAC, Naturally. It’s cute on its own, but punctuation in a title ≠a flowing paragraph!
Karen says
LOL, I don’t mind if it’s standing alone, but in sentences it’s so awkward!
Tekoa says
I have a zombie survival kit. Not lying. To non zombieholic friends and family its the Survival Kit with two weeks supply everything three cats and two humans will need. This includes three kitty carriers in case a Hurricane Katrina situation happens. Not a literal hurricane since I live in the Canadian Praries but still. If something Very Bad happens I’m taking the cats with me. While I was cleaning the basement yesterday I found a crowbar and actually felt happy. Hmmm. I think Show Biz needs to be in The Kit too.
Karen says
Finding a crowbar would bring me great joy, too. Better put that aside along with the carriers!
Tracy says
Hmm might have to add this to my Zombie Makeup bag too. 🙂 I have a few things in there already that I’ve talked about, but these sound pretty good.
Karen says
It never hurts to be prepared! Those zombies don’t mess around.
gio says
Show Biz looks very pretty!
Karen says
Love it!
Sunny says
I’m loving In Lights! And the snow leopards have made my day!
Karen says
They made my day too. Yay for big cats!
Marian says
In the last picture, you look like a delicate ballerina.
Karen says
Aww, thanks, Marian. 🙂
Ruchita says
I think it’s awesome that you have a Zombie Survial Kit! 🙂 The colors in the Smashbox trios are very pretty.
Have you seen the Planet Earth series? They had a segment on the snow leopards and managed to catch some on video. They are beautiful animals.
Karen says
Hi Ruchita,
I’ve seen parts of it and remember that sequence. It’s when they snow leopards scaling up the mountainside, right? I remember that it was breathtaking.
Nina says
the snow leopard picture is so compelling. 🙂
Karen says
It is! Can you believe our kitties are related to them? I swear Tabs acts and thinks he’s a big cat. 🙂
Nina says
so does LOL! funny how tabbies act alike, no? 🙂
Karen says
Yes it is! Does LOL act like he owns you? ‘Cause that’s Tabs ALL THE WAY!
Nina says
omg yes. when i sit on the couch he starts walking around me … scouting for the most advantageous cuddle spot! he does the same when the hubs sits on the recliner. 😀
plus when the bedroom door opens, he’s sure to dart in and jump up our … errrrmmm… his bed!
Karen says
Awww! Tabs does the same thing. His favorite thing to do is plop down right smack dab in either me or El Hub’s spot on the bed. When either of us try to move him he gets very, very fussy.
Even though tabbies are divas… they rule!
Nina says
but tabbies are the cutest kitties ever too … so i kinda feel like they have the right to be divas… 🙂
Christine says
Karen, i’ve never really worked with cream blushes before – what’s the best way to apply these? Aside from a sponge or fingers, what kind of brush would be best? Thanks in advance!
Karen says
Hi Christine,
I usually do fingers with cream blushes because the warmth from my hands seems to melt the product right into my skin, but you could also use a synthetic skunk brush or a flat top brush. A few ideas:
The Sonia Kashuk Flat Top Blusher Brush
The MAC 188
HTH! Let me know if you have any other questions. 🙂
Kim says
I love that you’re thinking about packing light in the makeup department during the zombie apocalypse. You definitely don’t want to be fumbling with a lot of brushes (unless you’ve sharpened their handles into shivs). 🙂
Do you know if they used the snow leopard footage for Planet Earth? There was a great sequence featuring a mama and her cub. Actually, that whole series is amazing!
Karen says
Hi Kim,
Makeup brushes as improv weaponry is genius! I’ll have to sell El Hub on that.
I think those pics are different from Planet Earth; they were taken pretty recently in October. I remember that sequence and being really moved by it. 🙂
Kim says
I hope El Hub will be on board! I’ll try to think of some more makeup-as-weapons ideas. 🙂
I loved the leopards, too. They have those amazing tails for balance. It’s great that we can see rare and non-native animals (in a non-invasive way) through pictures and video. Zoos make me so sad, so this is a great alternative. 🙂
Karen says
I just pray that I won’t poke my eye out! The chances of it happening would be high, sadly.
El Hub and I just had a long discussion about zoos a week or so ago. On one hand, I feel awful for the animals — especially the big ones that are designed to roam long distances, like elephants and giraffes. At the same time, though, I think they also allow people the chance to fall in love and appreciate animals they’re never get to see up close.
Alyssa says
I just love how your zombie-apocalypse kit includes a machete, makeup, and nutella! That’s what mine would include, too!
Karen says
Hi Alyssa,
See, great minds think alike. Now that I think about it, if there was extra room I’d also add some See’s Candies… you need chocolate in the apocalypse. It’s a necessity.
Chris25 says
I love Show Biz! The cream blush, of course…. 🙂
Karen says
LOL, Chris! 🙂
Has school started back up for you again? Hi to the kitties from Tabs.
Chris25 says
The kittties want to know if Tabs can attend their soiree later this week. They want a famous kitty model to balance out the kitty rock stars and socialites who will be attending.. 😛
School starts in a few weeks. In the meantime, I’m working at photo shoots! I can’t wait to post the pics once the photographer retouches them.
Karen says
I’ll have to check Tabs’ schedule, but as of right now it’s looking good. I think he has to be in NY for a shoot anyway (Gucci). 😉
Enjoy your downtime from school! That’s one thing I miss — the long breaks!
caitlin says
wow, I think you have me sold on these. they look great, and if they don’t budge.. I want!
Karen says
Hi Caitlin,
They’re so great for lazy days! 🙂 Are you normally a cream blush kinda gal?
Joey says
Have just started reading your blog recently and its so fantastic, I am now checking in every single day! Love all the tabs stuff, always makes me giggle xxx
Karen says
Thanks, Joey! So glad you’re enjoying the site. Are you a cat lover?
Joey says
Yeah, love beauty products and kitties! Looking forward to having a bundle of fluff of my own some day 🙂
Karen says
They are two of the best things in life. I wasn’t really a cat person until I met Tabs, to tell you the truth. Once your kitty finds you, you’ll just know! 🙂
Eva says
Survival kit in 2012, in general, is a WINNER!
I also have a very numb question: I have never used more than one colour for my cheeks (I am too much in love with “In love” from Chanel for a change right now, honestly), but just in case: how exactly do you apply these three shades? I assume one is a highliter, but the other two?
Karen says
Hi Eva,
Not a dumb question at all! You could either mix the colors together, or do the darker shade first and then layer the brighter on as a pop of color at the bottom of your cheek. 🙂
Rola says
I haven’t looked at Smashbox in a while. Beautiful new colors.
Karen says
Hi Rola,
They also have a new line lipsticks called Be Discovered that are really good. If you want I can give you a link to the review… just let me know!
eight says
I completely approve of the inclusion of Nutella in your survival kit.
The Smashbox trios look nice too 😉
What a great pic! It reminds me of the Planet Earth docs (we got the set on blu-ray for Christmas!) — they got some great footage of snow leopards too. What beautiful creatures!
Karen says
If the end of the world is nigh you better believe that I’m going to quit counting calories. Yay, Nutella!
Chynna says
You have Nutella in your Zombie Survival Kit. You’re my hero!
Karen says
It’s a must! 😉
Chelsea says
Now I need to go buy Nutella.
These look great! My skin is ultra dry, so cream blushes are nice in the winter. I love using highlighters, so this would be perfect.
Karen says
LOL, you need to have a couple of emergency packets! A friend of mine gave me a few and I keep them around just in case I don’t have a jar handy.
The Blossom Shed Beauty Blog says
Ooh, perfect survival kit – I actually have had to evacuate several times due to forest fires, and the cat crate, Nutella and expensive skincare are the first things into the car. I could last a good year on Nutella, easy – I’ve been known to put away a family size jar in one sitting in front of the telly – I use a large cooking spatula to eat it:)
Gorgeous snow leopard pic, so rare to get footage! And I’m drooling over the new MAC lippies from that collection, I love the orangey red.
