$20 Dolce & Gabbana Nail Lacquer in Platinum Looks Like a Million Bucks

January 18th, 2011 by Karen 56 Comments

Besides its top-shelf pigmentation and oodles of micro-glitter, Dolce & Gabbana’s Nail Lacquer in Platinum ($20) has a nice surprise that makes it stand out from all the other gray polishes showing up at department store counters this spring (see Estee Lauder Wild Violets and Dior Montaigne).

The sole nail color in the new Secret Garden Collection might look like your typical shimmery silver polish in the bottle, but on my nails Platinum subtly flashes from silver to gray to green to taupe depending on the light. Very cool!

I haven’t yet tested Platinum for durability since the bottle just came in, but if it’s anything like the Dolce & Gabbana polishes from the last few seasons it should resist chipping with a good base coat.

I applied two coats of Dolce & Gabbana Nail Polish in Midnight on my toes before leaving for a trip last fall (it’s one of my “good luck” nail polishes; do you have any of those?), and being the lazy @ss that I am, I didn’t paint my nails again for a good three weeks after. By the end of the third week, my polish showed a few chips, but the color was almost as vibrant as the first day I put it on.

CAT LADY BONUS: Platinum looks particularly stunning against a backdrop of tabby fur. 🙂

When Tuesdays Attack!

Didn’t today totally feel like a Monday? Yeesh!

Kinda random, but I’ve been going through a Kate Spade phase and did some shopping last weekend for spring accessories. I was hunting for a cute clutch/pouch that’s small enough to throw into a bigger bag but cute enough to stand on its own. I think I may have found it in the Kate Spade Daycation Large Cosmetic Purse ($75).

I like that it’s roomy enough to hold a phone, cards, chump change, makeup and my camera with room to spare. All that, and the print’s cute too!

Apparently, a lot of women have been feeling this purse because it appears to be sold out of stock online. If you’re interested in it, you might call the stores in your area to see if they they’ll ship. Here’s a listing of store locations and phone numbers, just in case.

Now on to more pressing things, like dinner! What’s on the menu for tonight? I’m craving pasta…

Hope you had a lovely Tuesday 🙂

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

It looks like shades of gray (and silver, and gunmetal) seem to be the rage for the season’s nail polishes!

For now it looks like Tabs will remain king of the condo. We’re thinking an older rescue would be a better fit — maybe a one or two year old? It’s really important that Tabs not feel threatened, since he’s been our only for so long, you know? I’m thinking adopting an older kitty would give us a better idea of the cat’s personality, since you never know with very young kittens.

That polish is gorgeous! And it’s definitely fun to have kitty fur as a great backdrop for polish colors. Having a black and white kitty, there’s nothing she doesn’t “go” with. Wouldn’t want to have the cat and the nails clashing now, would we?

It is easy to look good with such an experienced makeup model assistant! Absolutely lovely shade. Doesn’t look like much in the way of brush strokes either. Sadly, based on your paler model swatch, this would pull too green on me for my taste.

    Oh Karen,
I bought that pink/purple abstract heart Marc Jacobs makeup bag because of you! I did see this Kate Spade makeup bag at the boutique last week and yes, it is adorable but I have to walk away.

How well does this polish hold up compared to Chanel and Dior – not so lucky with those polishes unfortunately. I dig this color so if it can last longer than 2 days without chipping consider me SOLD!!
