What Are You Wearing on Your Nails Today?

March 3rd, 2010 by Karen 65 Comments

I lurve nail polish, but sometimes I get a little crazy with it. Most of the time I’m wearing 2-3 different colors at the same time, or I’ll only paint one hand (or maybe just a thumb). I don’t know why… I think it’s just more fun that way. 🙂

Lately I’ve been wearing a lot of crazy colors, but this morning I was in the mood to tone it down, so I chose Sephora by OPI’s Let’s Do Lunch ($9), a warm peachy pink with golden shimmer (I did ALL of my fingers this time).

Do you ever wear different colors on different fingers/toes, and what are you wearing on your nails today?

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

P.S. Happy hump day!

    lol i totally do !

i usually to keep it not too nutsy though use 2 colors 1 bright color on the ring fingers and then all the rest of the fingers an opposite color that is the the same color intensity family – for ex. today i have on essie chinchilly on all my fingers but the ring fingers are a cream bubble gum pink by china glaze. keeps things fun but still not too nutso for when i go to work- this may be a little much in some work places but for me as a graphic designer i can get away with it.

its my signature thing! everyone in my office knows i rarely have the same polish on all fingers keeps people on their toes lol

I never wear more than one colour on my fingers, I’m not brave enough! At the moment, I’m wearing a gorgeous minty green on my fingers, and a horribly chipped red on my toes! It’s still cold in England so no-one will see them anyway… thank goodness!

I used to layer Essie polishes – I’d use a more opaque pinky-neutral as the first layer and then put a more sparkly sheer color on top. Right now, my finger nails are bare. but my toes are a pretty Magala Wine (OPI), which is probably my favorite red shade.

Like your polish, Karen! Very ladylike.

I’m too conservative to wear different colors on my nails, and it wouldn’t go with the dress mode at work I think :). However, I must say that in the past couple of years I’ve started using my nails as a way to be more daring and experimental. I may wear my suits every day, but now I’ll experiment with green, blue, gray, and black nail polishes, things I’d never have worn in the past.

Today’s manicure uses Chanel Kaleidoscope, from fall 2008.

as a former ballerina on toe, I’m used to seeing bruises on my toes, so they must always be a dark purple color. Today they’re OPI’s Louvre Me, Louvre Me Not. Such as pretty purple. I wish I could keep polish on my finger nails, but I just pick them off. Which I know is bad for my nails, but I just can’t help it 🙁

Today my toes and fingers match with a base coat of OPI’s Black Onyx and then two coats of OPS’s Mad as a Hatter over top….light bounces off of them no matter where I am which makes me smile!!! I usually use two colors though, one on my toes and a coordinating one on my fingers…..I own too many nail polishes to just pick one!

OPI No Spain, No Gain on fingers and toes today. Sometimes I’m matchy-matchy, and sometimes I go with different colors on fingers and toes. Just depends on my mood. Ready to start trying some new brighter, lighter colors for spring, though! I’m thinking Easter Egg colors… I really liked that lavender one you swatched a few days back. Can’t remember the name/brand, though?

i really like faye’s idea of a pop of a different color on one of the fingers but i don’t think i can get away with it at work. i have been able to get away with wearing more daring colors on my hand though–from vampy almost-blacks to bright turquoise and even essie’s mint candy apple (which inspired hate/love reactions; nothing in between).

today i’m wearing OPI’s you don’t know jacques (the original; last week i wore the suede version) on my hands and a two week old pedi of lippman’s hit me with your best shot. both are grays of a sort but they’re definitely not matching since ydkj is a dark mushroomy griege and HMWYBS is a shimmery charcoal.

MAC’s Blissed Out, which came with … Warm & Cozy, I think? One of the recent neutral collections.

I normally wear either shiny taupes, gray, dark colors, or scarlet red but Blissed Out is oddly pretty … it’s sort of a mix between salmon and nude (that is, the color of my own fingers, though it’s slightly darker/warmer/pinker) and it looks pretty classy! Classier than the rest of the paint I usually schlep on, anyway. I like.

I usually have a different color on my hands than I do on my feet as I change my finger nail polish more often than I do my toes. But it’s still all the same color on my fingers, unless I’m swatching polishes. I’m currently wearing Sally Hansen’s Complete Salon Mainicure polish in Plum’s the Word. It’s an awesome earthy plum color.

OOooh, and I LOVe the brush and the formula. The formula is extremely pigmented and thick. And the brush is wide and soft, but the stick thingy is flat. It’s awesome and I love it.

hi karen! lately my fascination with nail polish has become somewhat of an obsession! i think because i’ve always been a “match my fingernails to my toenails” polish kinda girl & just recently discovered that i CAN wear different colors & still WORK it! haha this week – “hint of mint” (nicole by opi) on my fingernails except the ring fingers – “for audrey” (china glaze) which i also have on my toes. the pale green & robin’s egg blue work surprisingly well together & really make me long for spring (it’s coming right? right??)

I used to do different colors on my nails when I was younger, but now the craziest I get is different toes than tips! I got a mani on Monday with OPI Jade is the New Black, and I have to say, it really does look exactly like jade (unlike the minty Chanel Jade). No chipping yet! Next up for toes is OPI Skinny Dippin’ in Lake Michigan, which is sort of like a lingerie nude with silver shimmer. It reminds me of that one nude/glittery leotard that Britney Spears wore at the VMA’s more than a few years back, LOL!

I’m wearing Zoya Midori (medium green shimmer) on my left hand and Zoya Tangy (metallic yellow/green) on my right hand. I originally wanted to alternate colors every other finger, but I hated Tangy’s application so much that I figured it was easier to do each hand completely in one color. Midori achieves bottle color and is smoothly opaque in 2 coats whereas Tangy is a nightmare of streaky sheerness even after 4-5 coats. Interestingly, Zoya’s website states that Midori’s intensity is 3 whereas Tangy’s intensity is 5. I wonder if I got a bum bottle of Tangy. I’m considering removing Tangy and creating a matching hand with Midori. Or I might use another color entirely — possibly a neon pink!

Most importantly…is it just me or do you ever get hair imprints on your nails? I’d paint them, wait for ’em to dry completely, and then I wake up and well…I have indents of my strands of hair on all my nails! Any tips? Advice?

Occasionally I would do rainbow nails because I can’t decide which colour to settle on. A few years ago I would just paint two to three fingers on each hand or just one hand because I thought it looked cool and fun that one. Let’s Do Lunch is a colour I have been looking at Sephora for a while but have yet to pick up. I think it would be a great colour for spring. Currently I am wearing MAC Matte polish in Studded. In a few days I would try it with a topcoat because I want to see what it looks like shiny.

I love the shimmery blue green color that definitely makes me think of a mermaid’s fin but I may love the color in the bottle more than on the nail. Somehow, I always think green-type colors on my hands make them look “witchy.” Maybe I’ll like them better on my toes.

I’ve worn different colors on each nail sometimes because I’m sampling a few. A few times I’ve done it so I could wear all my brights at the same time. I love doing that on my toes though.
