Sonia Kashuk’s New Spring 2011 Nail Colours Have a Formula That’s Right on Target

March 30th, 2011 by Karen 31 Comments

If Sonia Kashuk’s new Nail Colours were any easier to apply, they’d be called Nail Polish for Dummies — or, in my case, Nail Polish for the HELLA Sleep Deprived.

I barely slept at all last night, which, as you can probably imagine, isn’t conducive to good decision making. For reasons I won’t even try to understand, I decided to do some swatching this morning…at 3 a.m. (aka the witching hour). Yes, I know. Crazy, right? Well, I was awake, and it just seemed like a good idea at the time. Despite the ridiculous hour and this little thing called “poor hand-eye coordination,” Sonia’s polishes still did a remarkable job.

I tried three of the four new colors released for spring — khaki green Fatigued, creamy purple Violetta and bright reddish coral Tutti Frutti. I also really wanted to try the fourth shade, hot pink Jammin, but I haven’t been able to track it down. Like another one of Sonia’s popular products, her Flat Top Brush, it’s always sold out at the store.

There are tons of great budget nail polishes out there, but very few of them have a formula this good. I’m serious. There’s like an avalanche of nail polish awesomeness inside each of these bottles. You get opaque, streak-free coverage from a single coat that dries in less time than it takes Mario Lopez to remove his shirt (why’s homeboy always half naked?). About a minute or two.

Oh, and the brush? Also awesome. It fans out to cover a large area, and I’m able to coat my entire nail in just a few swipes.

I like all of the shades I tried, but I absolutely love Fatigued. If you look closely, you might see hints of silver micro glitter. This one kinda reminds me of a $5 version of last fall’s $25 Chanel Khaki Vert. Wear time also rocks. Fatigued is still going strong on my toes after a week. I used a base and top coat with it and have yet to see a chip.

The only downside? Availability, at least at my Target here. If you spot them at yours, do your paws a big favor and bring one (or more) of them home. 🙂

PRICE: $5 each
AVAILABILITY: Available now at Target stores and also online
MAKEUP AND BEAUTY BLOG RATING: A+

I’ve really gotta get ahold of Fatigued. It’s amazing!

Sorry about your sleep deprivation. I’ve been going through that this week myself….

Waking up at 3 am really freaks me right out! So I purposely got a clock that dims completely so if I do wake up I don’t know what time it is. Yup, freaks me out that much.

I need these polishes! I’ve been trying to get a good coating on some new Revlon pastel ones and I just can’t do it. Crappy and take forever to dry. Sigh. I give up!

Wow $5 isn’t bad! And I’m loving Fatigued. Those ugly-pretty colors get me every time.

And Re: Mario Lopez… if ya got it, ya might as well flaunt it! I have a thing for Hispanic men, especially ones with dimples.

if i used nail polish often enough, i would be all over these ….

but i dont. i cant justify buying more nail polishes.

i did however buy 2 more things from SK’s spring line — a bamboo handled blush brush and the pencil trio. 🙂

I’ve actually spotted all those colors at my local Target. I marvel at how pretty they are then try to practice restraint because I’ve been buying way too many nail polishes lately. My small drawer is starting to over flow. I will have to pick up that green color because it is awesome. My restraint really isn’t that awesome. One good review on something I’m curious on and a trip to the store it is to buy. Darn you Sonia for making such good products.

Karen, does your lack of sleep correlate to days you didn’t exercise? I work with a guy who hadn’t slept in a week. At lunch he mentioned he had skipped running for a week. I noticied the pattern and mentioned that I thought it was an odd coincidence. He tried running the next day and finally slept. Can’t say it’s fool proof but worth a try.

Went to Target today. Got three SK flat top brushes, a large powder brush and the eyeshadow brush with blue patterned handle for gifts. 🙂

Then a SK lip pencil and a mascara for me.

I still need to grab Tutti Frutti and Violetta. I was going to grab them all, but my Target was sold out of everything except Fatigued, which looks remarkably similar to RBL Diddy Mow (which I already own) so I passed on it.

I also snagged the flat top brush. AH. MAY. ZING. AMAZING.

I can’t pull off bright corals or reds on my lips but muted moody colours- yes!

Hmmm Fatigued and Tutti Frutti are exactly the kind of colours I’m loving at the moment. If only we had Target in Europe..

Hmm might run back out to Target and grab some of these, I was JUST wondering if someone blogged about these polishes. You read my mind! I saw all the colors at the new Target in Oakland/Emeryville a few days ago, hopefully they are still there. Love shiny new Targets!

These sound great and I think I might be getting into the khaki/fatigue thing this spring. I don’t own anything in those colors (clothing wise) but I’ve seen some military inspired stuff lately and have been very tempted to grab it. Which is weird for me since they haven’t been sweats or sneakers! Anyway, the Fatigue polish looks very cool – and I especially like the idea of it as a toenail color.

I bought a Rimmel polish recently and the brush fans out perfectly to cover my entire nail in the first swipe – which is awesome – so I’m envisioning this is what you are talking about with these. But the Rimmel formula isn’t so great – chipped after a day and I was using CHD Sticky as a base coat with Seche Vite as a top – with those two working together I don’t usually gets chips/wear in my polish for 4-5 days. I will have to check out Sonia’s polish – thanks Karen!

Too bad I am on a polish no-buy until July (when Chanel Graphite comes out). I have way too many polishes (100+) and some many untried polishes.

Man oh man. I love me some Sonia Kashuk long time, but my local Targets are always sold out! I went to four Target stores in one afternoon searching for the highlighter & no one had it! I need to stop trippin and find “Fatigued” before I lose it. lmao

I picked up Jammin’ last nite (there were 4 bottles of it!), but put it back down b/c it looked too similar to something from W&W that I had recently bought and not used yet. It is a really gorgeous fushia-ish pink. Love like crazy the Tutti Frutti and the name just makes me happy. I must have the Violetta, though. My toes are insisting on it!! Hope you will be able to find and swatch Jammin’ soon. 🙂
