Dior Vernis Nail Enamel in Liquorice: Plum Diggity!

September 30th, 2008 by Karen 35 Comments

Dior Vernis Nail Enamel in Liquorice without flash

I’d been starting to forget how much I love purple when I remembered Dior Vernice Nail Enamel in Liquorice ($19).

It came out as a Nordstrom exclusive early in the summer. With its deep, rich plum and flecks of shimmery gold, it was everything I look for in a nail polish suitable for all occasions.

Dior Vernis Nail Enamel in Liquorice with flash

Unfortunately, ye mighty makeup gods chose to make it a limited edition, perhaps to toy with our emotions, and it’s already pretty scarce.

Nordies already took it down from their site, but I’ve had some luck finding discontinued limited edition products at Nordstrom by asking counter people to check around for me. If you’re unable to track it down, don’t fret. Try Sally Hansen’s Salon Nail Lacquer in Alchemy ($6) instead. It contains a little less gold (maybe that’s why it costs so much less, lol!) but has a very similar color.

Liquorice is an elegant, dynamic shade with a hint of pimp daddy thrown in for good measure. Depending on the light, the color pivots from a dark eggplant to a warm burgundy-gold. I can totally see myself behind the wheel of an old El Camino painted in Liquorice. Add some chrome rims and I’d be hella ridin’ dirty.

I just got back from a quick run. The leaves are beginning to fall, and pretty soon at this time I’ll be jogging in the dark. Lovely… I’m gonna miss the longer days.

Now I’m eating a brownie and watching the new 90210 on TV for the first time. I’m feeling the urge to paint my toes. 🙂

Whatcha doin’ tonight?

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

    Hey, girl!

Licorice is drop-dead gorgeous! I can so see you cruisin’ in the El Camino! LOL!

I just got back from Aikido, so that’s all I’m doing tonight! I painted my toes today with Arabian Night (from the last Tracy Reese collection)!

    Mmmmmm, brownie!

What a gorgeous color! And of course I find out about it when its hard to locate. Such is life!

I would be curious as to how you like the new 90210. So far I have liked it.

Tonight I watched the Hills and Amazing Race. Seems that I never watch shows the night they are on. And for the record, if Spencer talk to my mom the way he talked to Heidi’s, I would be opening a can of whoop ass!

    Hi Glosslizard,

I was born to cruise in a dark eggplant colored El Camino. Le sigh! One of these days.

How was Aikido? Don’t you have a test coming up soon?

Speaking of brownies and chocolate covered delights, Megan reminded me the other day about Trader Joe’s dark chocolate stars should be coming around again. I am so buying 5 boxes when I see them on the shelves.

    Hi Marisol,

I only made it through a quarter of the show (the urge to take a post-run shower kicked in). I will finish the rest of it tonight or tomorrow. It’s okay so far… but then again, I really loved the old show so it has big shoes to fill. I remember rocking out to the 90210 soundtrack when it came out. Remember Jeramy Jordon?

And OMG – I would never, ever let anybody talk to my family members like that. Spencer SUCKS!

Do I remember Jeremy Jordan? Heck yeah I do and what about Cathy Dennis, Color Me Badd and Shanice. ♪ I love your smile… do do do do… I love your smile ♪

I had both the original soundtrack and the college years.

I heard that Cathy Dennis song on this random dance station a few weeks ago and believe me my car turned into club on wheels in an instant.

LOL, Shanice! If I had a dollar for all the times me and my friends from highschool listened to that driving to and from school I’d be a rich woman. Either that would be playing in the morning or Nirvana. It would totally depend on whose car we were in.

That is one very lovely color. You’re in purple and plum mood these days, aren’t you? Fall is my most favorite season of the year, it just took the top position from Spring. It’s still a bit warm in my place but I started knitting a jacket already, just to declutter a bit.

The other day when walking my dog I noticed lots of leaves on the ground, there was some chestnuts too, but people had taken them all and left the skins behind. 🙁

    Hi Dao,

LOL, it must be all the Prince I’ve been listening too. Also, deep plum is my favorite fall color (for now).

I remember you telling me that you like to knit! It’s a hobby of mine, too. I can only do scarves, though…

    Hi Lindsay,

We sorta have a fall here in northern California. The leaves do change color, but nothing as dramatic as it is on the east coast.

I’ve never jumped in a pile of leaves, either. I want to, though!

    Hi P. Potter,

How fun! There’s a frozen yogurt place across the street from me, but I haven’t been in ages. I’ve been wanting to try Pink Berry. It’s finally here in SF, and my friends tell me it’s really yummy!

Speaking of SATC, did you pick up your DVD of the movie yet?

    Hi Ellery,

Yeah, the trees outside my window are starting to lose their leaves, and the street and sidewalk are going to be thick with them soon.

I love the fall! I am just not looking forward to the cold winter days and nights that follow!

hey, lovin’ all the purple posts lately! the stila eyes, the mascara, now this…..I think Zoya Yasmeen might be a similar shade to this too. It has that sparkle going on.

Just catching up on comments. 🙂 I’m so going to get a plum mascara soon–there is also the Px one, but I’m leaning toward the benefit.

As for the Twighlight series, I’ve finished the first two books. After Twighlight I was all for team Edward, but I think simply because Jacob wasn’t really in book #1. But, yeah, after #2 I’m leaning toward team Jacob. I guess I will see what plays out in #3 and #4…..(don’t have my hands on #3 yet)

OK, yes, I will admit here that I’m a huge TV addict! I love me some TV….I’m all over Heroes, Chuck, How I met your mother….my favorite returning show is tonight-Pushing Daisies! Can. Not. Wait. have you watched Fringe at all? It’s pretty good, not as good as Lost and Heroes, but still very compelling. Then of course there is the Thursday night TV overload-Ugly Betty, Grey’s, the office and 30 rock!

LOL! I was just talking about hoarding those chocolate stars the other day too! One of the workers at my local TJ’s said I should e-mail their main offices and tell them I want them to increase the time they’re available… maybe we should start a grass-roots movement!

Yeah, I’m in training for 2nd kyu! :O

I love this purple! It’s just so rich and warm for the upcoming chillier weather. I was wearing OPI’s Eiffel for this Color on my toes this weekend when I broke my foot, so the doc matched my bandages to my nail polish 🙂 One of the perks of working at a hospital, I guess!

    Hi Amanda,

The Benefit one is nice — very good in the thickening department. I’m sure it would be fabooo with golds.

AHHH! A fellow TEAM JACOB girl! Finally, others see the light! 😉 Are you going to watch the movie when it comes out in November?

I tried watching Fringe, but I just can’t get into it. I am stoked for the new season of 30 Rock. I would love to sit in on the script writing sessions for that show. Imagine all the funny stuff they think of that can’t be put on network TV!

    Hi Glosslizard,

How exciting. When is the big test?

I want a big ole truckload of those stars delivered to my door. That would be my greatest chocolate dream come true.

I can’t wait to eat them after dinner.

Or during the day with tea or coffee.

LOL! Yes! Chocolate stars for all!!!

I finished Twilight, and Jacob barely shows up at all in the first one, so I’ll have to read the next one (I just put a hold request on it) before I can pick teams! I’ll still go see the movie, though! 😉

I’m doing fine with the foot. It slows me down a bit, so that’s frustrating. I’m in Marketing and PR, so always on the go… It will be a few weeks before the cast comes off. Hopefully, before November 15, when I go on a shopping trip to the Magnificent Mile in Chicago 🙂 Can’t wait!
