Barielle All Lacquered Up Collection: Bringing Out My Inner Tough Girl

September 10th, 2009 by Karen 47 Comments

Barielle All Lacquered Up Swatches

What’s up, chicas?

How’s your Thursday been? My morning was kinda busy, but everything got better in the afternoon — basically after I spendt some quality time with the 12 polishes from Barielle’s All Lacquered Up fall nail polish collection ($8 a bottle).

Swatching and losing my mind to ’90s dance music (Tabs is gonna scratch me something serious if I play Set U Free by Planet Soul *one more time*), I got to thinking about all the interesting nail colors popping up this fall.

There have been lots of camouflage greens, concrete grays and darker-than-dark blues, yah?

For lacquer lovers who crave harder-edged, bad gal colors, this fall’s batch of punk rock girl- worthy shades just might be one for the history books.

My inner tough girl’s fallen hard for these babies, but what do you think?

How do you feel about fall's edgy nail polish colors?

The All Lacquered Up collection is heavy in the edgy shade department, and my favorite is Falling Star, a medium blue with copper glitter. It’s sassy and unusual, like the polish equivalent of Cyndi Lauper.

Are you feeling any of these colors?

Falling star is my favorite among the collection. Actually I rarely buy nail polish in pink/nude (I only have 1 bottle of soft pink polish)…I don’t see the point of neutral polish: When I want to go soft/neutral, I just leave my nail bare.

I really like Putt-E On Me. If it wasn’t for the shipping cost I would definitely get it. Do you happen to know of a similar color I could find at a store?

    I hope all is well!

Falling Star is my favourite; it reminds me of the cover art from a Smashing Pumpkins album, oddly enough. (Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness) I must track that polish down!

Some of the glittery ones remind me way TOO much of the 90s… but I dig the darker shades.

The more pics I see of this collection, the more I want it!

I definitely love when cosmetic companies try to out-do themselves in the color department. China Glaze especially seems to be trying to come up with new colors.

I think a lot of nail polish peeps are still giving Misa the cold should after their lackluster collection of 6 safe creams for fall. Berry, red, pink, purple… who hasn’t seen them before? Blue with copper sparkles? That’s what we’re talking about!! 😀

Jenna — Putt-E On Me is almost exactly the same as SOPI’s Metro Chic and China Glaze Channelesque, although Barielle’s formula can’t be beat.

Karen, I LOVE your blog. I don’t wear makeup, just nail polish, but you are influencing me to experiment, especially with eye makeup. Your tone is so positive and I look forward to checking for your updates throughout the day.

    Thanks!

I usually love fall collections because the companies come out with darker, more jewel toned colors which 98% I will buy. I loved last years La Collection de France from OPI. I think I own every one of the polishes except for three that I didn’t want. Purples, blues and greens make me a very happy girl. I have a lot of pinks and reds so I also sorta want to whack my head on the desk when I want another one!

I need to clean out my nail lacquer drawer though and get chuck the ones I haven’t used in years (I have, like, four of those) or those I utterly despise/look horrible on me because they’re too warm. My drawer is full. I need room to buy or franken a wicked dark green (Dr. Frankenpolish is one of my favorite sites).

Ha ha, I think Zena will kill me if I play “Sparkling Diamonds” or “Children of the Revolution” from Moulin Rouge! one more time! I’ve been on a Moulin Rouge! kick.

I don’t know about these… color-wise, they’re all really gorgeous. I love Falling Star (perfect for a Gator game!) but I feel like they’re all a little weird looking on the application. Like, the glitter looks rough or something. Maybe it’s just me?

Oh, hey, I’m the only one so far that couldn’t decide and said I’d elaborate in the comments…

I like some of them, but the greys are just meh for me. I was really surprised to like the Make It A Latte, but I’m not sure I’d want it on MY nails, or if I just like it on some abstract, perfectly coiffed and dressed woman.

Do other people ever feel like they should match their nail polish to their outfit if its an interesting color? (I feel like pale pink and bright reds are almost nail neutrals).

I think I’m the only person who doesn’t like Falling Star even a little bit. I think it’s because I don’t like wearing medium-shade blue, on my nails or in my clothing. I also don’t like the copper glitter with the blue.

Blackened Blue reminds me of Kotori from Zoya… and the Zoya one is cheaper ($6!). Blackened Blue might be a little more black but they’re so similar.

I like pretty much all of the other shades, though, with the exception of Slate of Affairs… it’s another medium-tone blue that just doesn’t appeal to me.

    Happy Friday, Karen!

Where do you typically buy the majority of your nail polishes, online or in-stores? If in-stores, which ones?

      Hi Heather,

It’s about 50/50, both stores and online. Online I like direct from the retailer’s website; 8ty8 beauty is good for discounts, too! In-store I like Sephora, Sally Beauty Supply and small mom/pop beauty stores around my hood.

IS U Concrete Me that shiny on its own or did you have to add a top coat? Also, how many coats did you have to apply? It looks good. Any grey or silver I’ve ever tried has always been too sheer.

I love dark polish colours, and I love neutrals/nudes. What I haven’t learned to like (yet) are vivid reds and pinks. My small polish collection has nudes, deep blues and dark, metallic reds and pinks. And shimmery topcoats. I either go natural/nude or funky.

This collection looks lovely, it’s a shame Barielle isn’t sold in my country!

Vivid reds can look very classic — especially if you get a really shiny top coat. Do you guys have Seche Vite in your country? I swear it’s the best…
