A Fall Trend to Try: Matching Tips and Lips

August 14th, 2012 by Karen 51 Comments

Butter London Toff
Butter London Lippy and Nail Polish in Toff on my lips and nails

Looks like matchy-matchy is in this fall. Quite a few lines have been releasing matching lip and nail products lately, like MAC, Sonia Kashuk and Butter London for fall 2012 (shown below), and can I just say? — I love this trend! 🙂

It reminds me of the sirens of the silver screen — so classic, elegant and pulled together — and with so many colors out there to choose from, it’s one of those rare trends in which everyone can find something to wear.

As some food for thought, here are three combinations featuring Butter London’s new Lippy Butter ($17 each) and 3-Free Lacquer ($14 each) shades, available online now at butterlondon.com.

If you prefer more neutral/natural-looking colors, you could try a creamy rose like Toff.

Butter London Toff
Butter London Toff…I use hands a lot when I talk, so I think it’s kinda cool to have nails that play off the the color on my lips!

But if you want more drama-for-your-mama, then how about something vampy, like dark wine La Moss?

Or peppy, like cranberry pink Queen Vic?

One nice side effect of this trend, and I swear to you it’s not just because I’m lazy (although that definitely plays into the equation), is that it takes some of the guesswork out of choosing coordinating nail and lip colors. No need to worry about it when the shades are the same. 🙂

Please pass the coffee

Zzzz… I’m a bit of a sleepy sheepy this morning. It was so hot in the house last night that I had a hard time sleeping. Even with the windows open and a fan pointing at the bed, it was still stuffy and sticky.

Oh, and then there was the grasshopper that somehow got in the house and taunted Tabs all night long. Yup, nothin’ like a 20-pound tabby tearing up and down the stairs at 3 in the morning.

I think I’m due for another cup of coffee. Want one? It’s a mellow Kona blend, like the easy listening of coffees, LOL!

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

I like this trend too! I never use the same nail polish for my manicure and pedicure, but there’s something fun and modern about matching your tips to your lips! I really like all three, but particularly La Moss. I own a similar nail polish already, but not yet a lip shade this vampy!

Nice trend :)… I never was concerned if my lips matched my nails, I never knew it was a “thing” to be considered lol. Oh well! (I think I may look rather funny with green lipstick on anyways). I had to laugh at the grass hopper too! This morning I was doing laundry, picked up a pair of pants and there was the BIGGEST cricket I’ve ever seen. Yes I’d like some coffee too please! 🙂

I personally love this trend! I always love funky nail polish and cool lipstick shades, so why not match them? I think this is a great idea and I am definitely into this for Fall, or any season really. Bubblegum pink lips and tips would be so cute for a summer day! Plum lips and tips in winter.. mmm this is awesome!

I love the trend though I’d only go through the trouble of matching my lips and tips for a special event. I change my lip color way too many times than my nail color so keeping them coordinated would be a tall task! Queen Vic would be my pick among these 3!

Mingy wants to go out all the time, regardless of the weather. 🙂 Nina’s still young and has a lot of energy, so she likes to play with her siblings. Her favorite thing to do is pounce when they’re sitting behind the curtain at the patio.

Oh, I like the vampy (says the girl who just polished her toenails with a sheer pink). It’s the maintenance. My gosh, the maintenance! 🙂

Speaking of grasshoppers, Tabs could have traded places with me yesterday afternoon. I picked up my towel from the railing after getting out of the pool. I was busy chatting away to the boys and didn’t look at it before I put it up to dry my face. Uh, huh. Almost got a mouthful of grasshopper. Thankfully, he just ricocheted off my face and onto the driveway.

Eek! That would freak me out, for sure. Where we live right now has more wildlife than I’m used to, so it freaks me out to see bugs in the house! I could not deal with one so close to my face, LOL!

Will the boys be starting school soon? The summer is flying by so fast.

I hear you – I did a little, shudder dance myself! Not a fan of bugs either. 🙂

They will. Our school year starts September 4th so time is running out. We’ve been working on math practice sheets so they don’t go into shock their first week. Fourth grade is one of the most challenging because of the State Tests.

I know – the summer has flown by! We’ve been really lucky because it’s been nice and hot, with very little rain. We’re on vacation next week and then the boys start soccer. This will be the first time I’m not their coach (just a helper this year) so it’ll be interesting for all of us!

They’re pretty comfy on the lips. Medium thickness, just a tiny bit sticky (but not terribly so), with a very faint vanilla scent/flavor.

My granny would ALWAYS have matching lips and tips… in fact, she thought you MUST buy the coordinated polish when you buy a lipstick. 🙂
Of course, shades in her days were a lot more classic, reds, pinks and burgundys.

I often change lipcolors a few times during the day, so matching my nails is kind of hard for me!

Sadly, Linus has no sense of direction, it seems. Id see him trying to catch a moth and be a foot away from where the moth actually is. 😀

I like the matching nail and lips trend too–though I must admit, I haven’t really done that in the past (I prefer bright, fun, neon shades on my nails and wouldn’t want to wear the same shade on my lips :P). But I SO would with these Butter London glosses and polishes! I am in LOVE with the dusty-rose shade of Toff–though I wish the gloss were a bit darker like the polish. And, surprisingly, I really really like the La Moss gloss. So gorgeous!
