Looking for a new full-coverage, layered makeup look to wear during the last days of summer?

Uh…wait.

That’s not right. How ’bout this instead?

Looking to simplify your late-summer/early fall looks with something light and fresh? The Revlon Rose Glow 02 Highlighting Palette ($9.97) can help. It works well as a highlighter, blush and an eyeshadow, all rolled into a single useful palette.

Here’s the simple step-by-step:

After filling in my brows and applying foundation and concealer, I apply the shimmery taupe shade (it’s the one in center of the palette) on my lids with a flat eyeshadow brush.

Next, I load a fluffy tapered eyeshadow brush (because a regular blush brush would be too big, and would also pick up the neighboring colors) with the pink shade, second from the top, and buff that on the apples of my cheeks for a fresh wash of summery color.

Now, to get all “glowy,” I grab a separate tapered eyeshadow brush (sometimes, I just clean the one I used for blush by running it across a paper towel to remove any leftover pink powder), and run it across the light peachy pink shade at the top of the palette.

Then I buff that on the tops of my cheekbones…

And on my Cupid’s bow…

And down the bridge of my nose.

To complete the look, I curl my lashes, coat both my upper and lower lashes with mascara, and apply a pink gloss to my lips.

Ta-da! Fresh-faced and glowing, courtesy of a mighty useful palette. 🙂

You look radiant, Karen. I actually have this one. And the other version as well. And I think they’re very pretty. But it’s not a good idea for me to wear them, unfortunately. They’d only highlight things I don’t want to show off…

What another brilliant post! Love your blog. It has so much variety.
Personally I only use mine as blusher. It has some amazing pink shades. Just perfect when you want something on your cheeks but not too much of something. xx

      Hi My Maesiram,

You have to try it as a multi-tasking product! And then let me know what you think. 🙂

      Hi Ivey G,

Thank you! I think Revlon makes some beautiful highlighters. They do a great job.

What do you usually like to wear with Peach Glow? Do you have any fave blush/highlight combos?

OhmygoshiLoveit! I’m also very excited about this series & your participation in it! I’m trying to learn how to apply highlight so I’d like to find a nice drugstore product to practice. Then, once I get better at applying it, I’ll get a higher end highlight like the Hourglass Ambient powders.

So hoping you feature more posts like this. I’m always willing to show the drugstore products some love 🙂

      Hi Kwmechelle,

I’m so glad you are liking these posts. 🙂 I love your idea of practicing first on drugstore items (and hey, you never know when you’ll find a gem!). Another idea for you: another way to save a little money while you practice is to grab a single pan of eyeshadow at the drugstore to use as a highlighter. Anything that’s light, with either a white, beige, gold, peach or pink that you like. It’s easier to see if it has shimmer, but you could do matte if you wanted to avoid shine.

Whenever I wear drugstore it feels a little like coming home. I wore it a lot during my high school, college years and early 20s. I still love it to this day!

What are your current drugstore faves, by the way?

These different shimmery pink colors look very pretty on you!
I never thought about applying individual strips with different placements, which I find rather brilliant.
And I love reading about more drugstore products here as well. 🙂

      Hi Lena,

Thanks! Yeah, the cool thing about makeup is that you can do so many different things with products. You just need a little imagination and improv.

What drugstore makeup items are your faves? I’d love to hear about what you use and love.

It looks lovely, but how is the wear, does it last, and what kind of scent does it have? I’ve been using my Bobbi Brown Shimmer Brick in Rose, and that kind of reminds me of that. 🙂 Love your blog!

      Hi Ginger,

No scent, and I get about 7-8 hours of wear (I have combo dry/oily skin). The major diff is pigment. Bobbi’s is more pigmented; with the Revlon, you’ll have to do some layering. Also, the Bobbi Shimmer Bricks have a slightly finer texture. HTH.

I love how this looks! It’s like a Shimmer Brick dupe. It looks beautiful on you but I think it may be too light for me. Peach Glow looks right up my alley though!

*waving* My favorite drugstore product is the CG Queen collection Bronzer in Ebony Bronze. I wear it Every. Day! Many WOC on the ‘tube use it to contour but I feel like its red undertones make it a bad idea for me to use as contour.

I use it as my transition color on my lids. Sometimes I’ll layer another color from one of my UD or Tarte palettes on top for more depth but I generally don’t wear any makeup look without it. And I’ve also had a lot of luck with WnW lippies. I’m always stalking their color selection.

I also just used one of the colors from my CG quad (Countrywoods) to practice applying as a highlight & I think I’m digging it. Thanks so much for that lil’ tidbit. Totally think I’m gonna try out more eyeshadows for use this way.

Finally, I’d love to see a swatch of the Peachglow; you know, just in case I “need” more color options to play with

Ooh. That bronzer sounds really pretty. Sometimes I love a deep bronzer buffed on top of smudgy black liner. Have you tried that yet? It’s a really easy, elegant way to do smokey eyes.

It’s been ages since I’ve worn a WnW! Like, seriously… maybe 20 years. Good to hear they’re still rocking though. Back in the day all my friends wore this frosty dark magenta color. I wish I could remember the number. We’d layer it with the iconic WnW 666 liner. Remember that?!

So glad to hear that the old eyeshadow as a highlighter trick works for ya. I do it all the time with eyeshadows that I like. Oh, and if you ever end up with a highlight that’s too frosty, you can always try layering a similar matte on top, so that the shine peeks through the matte.

Noted about the Peach Glow. It’s right here on my desk, and I just wrote a Post-it reminder to swatch it. 🙂

That’s a little shimmery for me but it looks great on you! Definitely helps to extend that summer feeling! 🙂 Btw, our high is supposed to be 65 today. I’m trying to look on the bright side: it’ll be nicer than hiking in the hot weather and the leaves are beginning to look lovely!

We ended up not going because it was raining all day on Saturday and we knew it would be a mess on the mountain. We’re doing the 46ers (they’re the 46 high peaks in the Adirondacks). We were going to do Cascade and Porter so we could cross off 2 in one day. We’ve done them before but now we want to be official so the boys can be registered when we complete all 46. We’re going to try again this Sunday. 🙂
