I Look and Sea the Ocean: A Blue, Teal and Golden Eye

June 15th, 2010 by Karen 34 Comments

Written by Makeup Morsels

Today the makeup maven behind Makeup Morsels blog shares a bright and summery eye look inspired by the beach.

Hey, guys!

Lately I’ve been loving nautical themes, and I suspect it has to do with summer. My brain’s on a sunny beach somewhere far away, and its gentle waves have shooed away the stress of my exams.

Maybe that’s a dream that won’t be happening any time soon, but I can still pretend with makeup looks like this ocean-inspired eye of the day!

Here’s what I used to get the look:

  • Too Faced Shadow Insurance ($17)
  • Revlon Illuminance Crème Shadows in Not Just Nudes (about $7)
  • Victoria’s Secret Beauty Rush Wet/Dry Shadow in Blue-Ray ($7)
  • Covergirl Quad in Tropical Fusion (about $5)
  • Milani Liquif’Eye Eyeliner in Gold ($6)
  • The Body Shop Super Volume Mascara in Cobalt ($14)

First, I primed my lids with Too Faced Shadow Insurance to prevent creasing and fading. Then, using a finger, I patted the light matte shade in Revlon’s Not Just Nudes quad over my lids to creates a base to amplify the vibrance of the colors to follow.

Next, I covered the inner two thirds of my eyelid with Victoria’s Secret Eyeshadow in Blue-Ray.

Then, using a blending brush, I applied the teal shade from the Covergirl quad to the outer corners of the eyes, then brought it up into the crease and blended it out in a rounded shape.

To add more dimension to the look, I applied the royal blue from the same quad also at the outer corners, and using a smaller, denser brush, made a sort of rounded triangle shape.

Time to add some sunshine!

Now here I lined my upper and lower lashlines (you can also line your waterline if you’d like) with Milani Liquif’Eye Gold Eyeliner.

This next step is the last one and it’s optional. You could just curl your lashes and apply your favorite black or brown mascara, but if you want an extra POP!, I think blue mascara makes this look super pretty. I used The Body Shop Super Volume Mascara in Cobalt.

And there you have it! I hope you enjoyed.

Very summery indeed! Love the blend of blues, and that gold liner.

And The Body Shop mascara is really blue. I am always on the look out for colored mascara but somehow the colored ones I found didn’t really show up as colors on my lashes.

Love it! And love that she used many less-expensive products. For trendy hues like turquoise, I hate to commit to a $35 palette.

I really like the gold liner with blue eyeshadow! Great idea-I hardly wear blue eyeshadow because I think black eyeliner just looks too stark and makes it un-summery. Totally going to try this tomorrow!

Wow… that’s a nice metallic shade of eyeshadow there. There Liquif’Eye Gold eye-liner definitely breaks the blue and gives that nice Egyptian princess look. Love it. Looking forward to more tutorials in the future.

Hi there! I’m Karen, your friendly neighborhood beauty addict, and I’m a Bay Area girl who hoards brown eyeshadow and covets coral lipstick. Every morning, I wake up and say, “I’m going to do something other than a smoky eye today.” Then…I end up doing a smoky eye anyway (most days). When I’m not putting on makeup, taking pictures of makeup or writing about makeup, which I’ve been doing daily since 2007 (!), you’ll find me hanging out with my hubby (“El Hub”), my four-year-old daughter (Connor Claire) and my torbie girl cat (Pretty Girl Rosie, a.k.a.
