A Rocking Red Carpet Makeup Look – Plus a CoverGirl & Ulta Giveaway

February 3rd, 2015 by Karen 270 Comments

A COVERGIRL makeup look and Ulta giveaway
A red carpet rock-inspired makeup look with pops of pink and purple

You know what they say: “Always be prepared…”

…to walk a red carpet with rock stars. 🙂

Because seriously, you never know.

In the event you find yourself alongside the left shark Katy P. as her plus one at a fancy awards show, you need a makeup look with an edge, maybe like this sassy red carpet rock-inspired eye with smoked-out purple liner and cool-toned lids.

Here’s a step-by-step in pics (YouTube tutorial coming later this week, and there’s also a giveaway at the bottom of this post). First, I prepped my skin with some products from Olay, then followed that up with lip colors and eye products from Covergirl (all available now at Ulta)

By the way, Ulta shoppers, from now through February 14, 2015, buy any Covergirl product, and get an extra Covergirl product for 50% off! (BOGO 50% off)

A quick step-by-step red carpet rock-inspired makeup look with pops of pink and purple

First, gotta prep! I started by washing my face with Olay Regenerist Regenerating Cream Cleanser before moisturizing with Olay Regenerist Micro-Sculpting Cream and Olay Regenerist Intense Repair Treatment.

Next, I evened out my skin tone and texture by applying primer, foundation and concealer, then filled in my brows with Covergirl Bombshell Powder Brow Liner in Dark Brown.

tweetyUPDATE: Come say hi this Thursday night, Feb. 5, at 8 p.m. EST on Twitter, and we’ll talk about red carpet looks, among other things…very likely cats (use hashtag #ULTAglam). I hope to see you there!

To give my eyes more depth and drama, I lined my water and lash lines with a black eyeliner and smudged out my upper lash lines with the darkest shade from Stunning Smokeys, another Covergirl Eye Shadow Quad.

Now, a pop of purple! Using a wet brush head, I blended the two purple shades from the Covergirl Eye Shadow Quad in Va-Va Violets, then applied them on my lower lash line. Once dry, I blended out the edges to smoke 'em out and diffuse any harsh lines.

After bronzer, blush and highlighter on my cheeks, I lined and filled in my lips with a hot pink lip liner, on top of which I blended Covergirl Outlast All-Day Lipcolor in Honeyed. Lastly, for extra oomph, aka "sparkle and shine," I accented the center of my lips with Covergirl Lip Lava Lip Gloss in Ooh La Lava.

I’m so bad at styling hair that when my hair dryer broke on a trip to South America 4 years ago(darned voltage conversions!) I didn’t replace it for…like 6 months. And even now it is rare that I even blow dry it. I suffer from serious hair laziness. If a hair style can’t be achieved with beach spray and a claw clip it is beyond me.

I’ve been using the regenetist micro sculpting cream for a while now, and I love it, like most of their products. The luminous line is also fantastic. For an eye cream though, I grab my Roc, for the retinol. I’ve been curious to try the full lash bloom mascara, but it might just be because of the cheery pink packaging!

What’s your birthstone? RUBY which I love but the really nice ones are SO expensive. I bought a ruby ring in a antique type setting and although I love the ring, I constantly compare it to my friends ring who has the most gorgeous ruby stone in her ring. It just really stands out and is BEAUTIFUL (I still love MY setting more).

First of all, you are rockin’ that look! I love the Notice Me Nude pallete! It is beautiful! Ok, since we share a love of felines, did you see that guy who spent $50k to make his home an amazing house for all his cats?! It is a bit much, but I’d like to incorporate some of the ideas, like having shelf walkways for them and scratching posts attached to the walls so they can climb up to the walkways. Kinda cool! Here’s the link or you can just go to pet360.com. Enjoy! ~ Pam

I love this palette, and the look you put together with it is great! I’ll have to swing in to Walgreens and pick up one to give it a try! Having just started blogging again (specifically with a beauty blog), I’m always on the hunt for new products to try out. I’ve never shopped at Ulta, so between the items in your giveaway and the $50 gift card would definitely help me grab a few things for my first haul and Ulta review! Thanks for the chance 🙂

About Makeup and Beauty Blog

Welcome to Makeup and Beauty Blog
Hi there! I’m Karen, your friendly neighborhood beauty addict, and I’m a Bay Area girl who hoards brown eyeshadow and covets coral lipstick. Every morning, I wake up and say, “I’m going to do something other than a smoky eye today.” Then…I end up doing a smoky eye anyway (most days). When I’m not putting on makeup, taking pictures of makeup or writing about makeup, which I’ve been doing daily since 2007 (!), you’ll find me hanging out with my hubby (“El Hub”), my four-year-old daughter (Connor Claire) and my torbie girl cat (Pretty Girl Rosie, a.k.a. PGR).
