Warming Up to MAC Pret-a-Papier

April 22nd, 2010 by Karen 55 Comments

Um… brace yourself, young lady. 🙂

QUESTION OF THE DAY: Can you MAC any room in your heart for the bevy of warm, wearable colors that comprise MAC Pret-a-Papier?

I ask because the collection descended on counters today (HOLLA!). Have you had a chance to check it out yet? The hefty 25-piece release for eyes, lips, cheeks and nails is packed with products in warm coral, peach, purple, brown, beige and gold.

If you’ve ever been a little confused by MAC’s past color collection choices, you might be in for a treat this time (at least I hope so). Everything here just makes sense to me, like a bona fide summer makeup collection with wicked versatility and potential. Almost any combination of these colors picked at random could still produce a cohesive look.

Because these shades aren’t too EXTREME! (nothing too dark/loud/sparkly), the release may not set the world on fire. Gals who eat, drink and breathe brights might feel like the color palette’s a little ho-hum… but I dig it. These are colors that speak to me, and they say, “fresh, feminine and sophisticated.” I know I could wear ’em often, and of the MAC summer collections I’ve seen so far, this one feels the most wearable (which to me = value).

But that’s just one gal’s opinion (Tabs prefers brights!). Tell me what you think. 🙂

I’ve never tried MAC before but this collection is really calling my name. I think it would be a great start for me. But can you explain what the Chromographic Pencil’s are please, I unfortunately don’t have a clue. Thanks!

I don’t really know what a chromagraphic pencil is, but after reading several reviews, apparently, it can be used as eyeliner. Since it’s very creamy, it can also double up as concealer too.

I gotta check them out this weekend! Still one more exam to go 🙁

I was lucky enough to get to the mall today and picked up a few things from this collection. I loved the warmer colors. I’m really into the peach/coral lippies so I bought the l/s in Dressmaker, Dressmaker and Made to Order and the l/g in Fold and Tuck and Pret a Papier.

I tried the Fold and Tuck today on my way through Saks to Sephora with my mum. It was definitely a my lips look natural but better color for me. But the majority of the lip colors looked good on me, a plus right? Thursday nights are my weekend since I don’t have classes on Fridays, so I celebrated with a chocolate “lava” cake on the couch with my kitty.

    Hope your gelato is delish!

Right after work I ran to the mall and bought Fold & Tuck l/g, the Chromographic pencil, and brown bag nailpolish. I am torn about the chromographic pencil, cause I am an NC 35 as well and I feel that the lighter pencil might be the tiniest bit too light on me. The problem is that the darker pencil was my EXACT skin color and I figured I was supposed to go a little lighter. However, I am IN LOVE with the nailpolish- it is truly my perfect nude.

    Hey Karen!
Thanks for the post! I am really liking that Coral Crepe Paint Pot and the Groundwork one too. I currently only own Rubenesque and I just love it! The Instant Chic Blush looks like something that would work with my skintone…It looks more peachy toned in the pan than it does on your skin though. I guess I will have to go to the MAC counter and check them all out!

I actually went to the MAC store today to check out the collection and all the chromagraphic pencils were gone! I was completely surprised! That is what I really wanted to try from this collection, since nothing else was really speaking to me. The SA told me that the Coral Crepe paint pot can be multi-purpose: eye base, check color and lip color. I don’t really need another coral color, but I thought I’d mention it in case anyone else was interested. 🙂

I got dressmaker, dressmaker yesterday, I wore it today, it dissapears pretty fast. I also got Fold and tuck and I love it! It lasts and has such a pretty shine to it. The coral crepe paint pot is beautiful! Its my favorite thing in this collection, I wish they would make it part of the permanent line. I have it on today, I wore that on my lids with a bluish gray eyeshadow on the outer v of my lids and Ricepaper eyeshadow as the highlighter on my browbone. I love this stuff!

BUT, all of this will have to wait til next week, because I seriously overspent my week’s beauty budget. I bought Laser and Pop l/g from Chanel’s summer collection AND ordered $100+ worth of stuff from Sephora LOL.
