Vetting MAC Art Supplies Pro Longwear Lipstain Markers

March 22nd, 2010 by Karen 48 Comments

How was your Monday, sunshine? Mine was a little cra-zaay, as I’ve been running around like a nut!

The highlight: my trip to the vet…

For Tabs, of course. 🙂 Everything’s fine; he just needed a checkup, but the visit kind of threw a wrench into my afternoon. Vet visits turn that little wonderful cat into a freaking beast from the depths of kitteh hell.

He spent 45 very angry minutes dodging my attempts to load him into his cat carrier. Then, once we finally came to an agreement and got on the road, I couldn’t find the clinic and ended up lost beneath a highway next to some abandoned train tracks. Lovely, and that’s about the time Tabs started mewling, which, of course, made getting un-lost 10 times harder.

Long story short, it took a lot out of both of us. Tabs has been recovering in the closet since we got home, and I’ve been trying to unwind with the Pro Longwear Lipstain Markers ($16) from the upcoming MAC Art Supplies collection (arrives April 1).

Here are seven of the nine colors (not shown are Full of Flare and Tomorrow’s Coral). I’m curious to hear what you think. I like how rich the reds and browns are, but I think a lot of ’em look alike on my lips, maybe due to my pigmented pucker. 🙂

Stylesetter

A Classic

Modern Mocha

Point of View

Purposefully red

Runway Ripened

Sunset

What’s your favorite of the bunch? I’m leaning toward Stylesetter and A Classic…

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

*exhales* Whew, thank goodness Tabs is okay! You had me worried for a second there 😉

These look amazing — A Classic and Runway Ripened are definitely calling to me. Aside from being gorgeous, how do these wear? I’m worried they won’t sit well with my dry pucker :/

loll I don’t think trips to the vet, or even the doctor are or will ever be fun. These lipstains look amazing, what do you think of them compared to CG lipstains? I remember you playing around with those awhile ago, but i’ve never tried lipstain markers period since my lips tend to be kinda dry. I’m loving A Classic and Modern Mocha.

I need these! I have been using Stila’s stains for ahwhile and Covergirls, but Stila’s color selection is too limited and Covergirl’s slips right off my lips after one sip of water. I love lipstains, and i am so excited for these! I want Stlyesetter, and Sunset. I oddly do not like lipgloss, or lipstick. I can’t find good lipstick colors and lipgloss makes my lips look so ginormous they look fake! (I have HUGE lips!)

    I love Mac and I can’t wait for these!!1

Long day eh, but it feels great to be home, right?
I, too, like A Classic and Stylesetter! But how do you find the texture or wear? I don’t think we can try it in store, so it’ll be nice to know from someone who tried them!

I have pretty dry lips too, so I’m kinda worried. (I never go for anything non-moisturizing, my top picks have always been Cremesheen and Glaze)

I personally thing Sunset & Purposely Red looks the best on you. They seem to have the least patch-yness you usually find with lip stains. I don’t own any lip stains but the one jelly lip tint I have is mega patchy & cherry popsicle-y.
A Classic & Runway Ripened are nice too but those would be my runner ups!

I really like the look of these… how do they compare to lipsticks? I’m a little confused… are they less heavy? Do they last longer?

I recently bought a red lipstick… but I’m almost scared to use it! I also have fairly pigmented lips, so it actually shows up slightly pinkish – I think I need to find a lipliner that is either red or will neutralize some of my lip colour…

Those these are really pretty colours, I don’t think they’d do well on my dry lips. It’s ok though, I already have way too many lip pencils. I’ll just have extra money to budget for the greasepaint sticks and pearlglides!

Did you just have them on your lips or did you have a clear gloss on top because your lips have a lovely sheen to them also on these pics!

Oh wow taking a kitty to the vet is never easy … im a sucker sometimes and end up postponing the visits because I so hate it when my kids are stressed. I hope he is better now! 🙂

Those markers are lovely … im recently using stuff other than lipbalm on my lips. LOL I have no idea how it started but I am using lipstick again … ive not done so in a while. Just got tired of having to apply and reapply I guess.

But if these are long wearing then im interested … im liking Sunset, Purposefully Red and A Classic … so pigmented and they look awesome on you!

i LOVE LOVE LOVE stylesetter. My question is, I already own posietint and pretty much have a full bottle of it. do you think it’s worth getting stylesetter or do you think its too similar to posie tint?

p.s.-i have very pigmented lips too! i read somewhere that putting a little foundation on them can help neutralize the lip color, but i tried that and it looked all gross because the foundation got into all the tiny little cracks in my lips 🙁

I like A Classic too. I’m sorry for you and Tabs – it once took 4 of us to get a friend’s kitty in her carrier for a trip to the vet… and a very frightened intern once told me that my generally mild-mannered kitteh was the “meanest cat I’ve ever seen” (as he backed away from her and shielded himself with his long, leather gloves).

    Hi Gals,

Just a quick comment to update you on wear time of these stains! I have pretty good luck with these…

Last night I put on “A Classic” at five. After about two hours the original intensity of the color began to fade, but my lips definitely remained stained. The color lasted through a running workout (where I chugged hella water out of my water bottle) at 8pm. After dinner and shower I noticed that my lips still had some color ’round 9:30, and when I went to bed at 11 there was still some red hanging on.

These do fade after a few hours, but I think the fade is gradual. I didn’t have trubs with it drying out my lips, either.

Thanks for the update! Did you find they faded naturally and evenly or that they settled into lines as they faded and looked pretty rough after a few hours?

Does this make your lips feel tight? The regular lip stains (from Rose Romance and the Ungaro collection) from MAC always make mine feel very tight.

Stylesetter and A Classic are probably my favorite too, but I can’t really say I DISLIKE any of them! Like everyone else I’m wondering how drying these are although I don’t know that it would stop me from buying them. i haven’t had a lip stain since a bottle of benetint spilled in my bag and I think it’s time again. Also, I feel your pain on the vet front! Once my cat is in the carrier you would never know because she usually sheds a full cat’s worth of hair all over the floor in the process.

Aw, the vet. It’s not so much getting Zena into the car, it’s more the WHINING she does in the car. It sounds like she’s dying back there. We think she gets overstimulated from all the sights and smells that she kinda goes psycho. Thankfully, she’s learned how to stay in her car seat harness!

I have two cats and vet visits are not very pleasant experiences for us either. I wonder how some people make their trip with their cats in a hamper basket and a blanket! (oh yes, I’ve witness quite a few at the vet!)

    Oooh! I really like these.

God, do I know what you’re talking about with the vet! Tigger (the one who looks like a skinny Tabs) is usually such a sweetheart. He follows me around the house, and will snuggle up to me whenever I take a nap. He goes on binges where he will give my arm kitty kisses for fifteen straight minutes.

If you saw him at the vet, though, you’d understand why all of the vet techs think my sweet little boy needs an exorcism. He fluffs up and makes these strange growly noises that sound like a cross between roaring, hissing, and what you’d expect a demon to sound like, lol. He often starts hyperventilating at the same time, which gives his voice a particularly creepy guttural sound that comes and goes every half second. I always feel bad because he scares the living crap out of everyone in the waiting room!
