MAC should just make these Powder Kiss Matte Eyeshadows permanent already. Come on, MAC! Dooo it! Make our lives a little easier. ?
If you like ultra-blended, blurred and blown-out eyeshadow as much as I do, the Powder Kisses will get you there without drama. They’re highly pigmented, for one thing. Two, they apply in the thinnest, smoothest layers imaginable, so they look and feel featherweight on your lids. At the same time, they’re super saturated, which is kinda crazy!
Even though you don’t have to use very much, if you do, they still won’t look chunky. It’s FASCINATING. MAC must’ve assigned the “A” team to these when they cooked them up in the lab.
Many matte powder shadows look thick and cakey on my lids (got some fine line action!), especially when I build up layers, but not these. The Powder Kisses definitely don’t emphasize my fine lines.
There are some crazy colors, of course, because it’s MAC, after all, but as far as everyday workhorse colors, I’ve been loving What Clout, a matte mid-toned warm brown that looks like a cross between Soft Brown and Soba with maybe a hint of Kid. I also dig Warm beige Best of Me. I think it’s a lovely lid shade, or along the brow bone as a subtle highlight. Also, Dark chocolate brown Give A Glam is a little bit like Brun.
As for other notable shades, don’t be terrified of Devoted to Chili (I was!) because it looks so reddish and orangey brown. Keep an open mind about it because it’s surprisingly wearable on lids.
MAC is selling them in packaging for $20 each, and as bare pans sans the packaging for nine bucks(!).
MAC doesn’t normally offer both options for every LE eyeshadow launch, so “Cosmetics Conspiracy Theory Karen” is thinking, “That’s gotta be a sign they’re coming to the permanent line!”
I hope so because the neutrals, in particular, are fan-frickin’-tastic, especially if you’re a fan of matte eyeshadows, which you know I am.
Fingers and toes crossed they go permanent. Hey, if it can happen to the Paint Pots (remember them from Fafi, OLD SCHOOL?!) and the In Extra Dimensions from Alluring Aquatic, I think it can happen for these bad gals.
Let us will it into being and manifest that right now! ?
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

These look cool and I want to try them but why are the shades all so warm and reddish?! Where’s all the greens, blues, and purples?! I did find one of the powder kiss lipsticks at TJMaxx (SCORE) and I love it!
Karen says
I know. The whole red/orange shadow has been such a huge trend over the past couple seasons! I’m waiting for the pendulum to swing back to cool tones.
What shade did you find at TJMaxx?
Rachel says
It’s called Mull It Over. I thought it might be a little too orange but it comes across as pretty neutral on me! Has a different smell than MAC’s normal lipsticks which shocked me!

I adore your eye look! These look very interesting, I love the Powder Kiss bullet lipsticks so I think I’ll like these too.
My only complaint is the shade range – I wish they had more neutral/cool colours. A taupe would be so pretty in this formula! Maybe they’ll come out with more shades, fingers crossed!
Karen says
Wouldn’t that be great? I would love some cooler tones, too. More jewel tones as well!

I love that look on you, too! Beautiful! Probably not doable for me since MAC uses carmine in all their red colors and many of their browns. I am allergic to carmine so I have to pass on many of their really pretty colors.
I’ve never been a fan of matte colors on my eyes. I like some shine on my eyes. If they expand this line to shiny ones, based on your reviews, I’d give it a try. Just not the red ones.
Karen says
I think that would be cool if they added a little shine to them, too! I would love some purples and taupes. 🙂

I love the idea of these, but I swore I was not going to buy another warm toned shadow because I look awful in those colors. Not to mention allergic to so many of the reds in MAC’s lineup.

I’m super excited to have come across this article!!! Which is fabulous btw!! I will be honest with this one and admit that I have never heard of this eyeshadow line by MAC ?. I love MAC but it’s not my favorite only bc I’m not a “stage makeup” kinda’ gal. I’m all about a natural look for most occasions. When going out (and if I have the extra time) I will do a bold ? with a very light natural lip. Usually I do a simple ? bc I love a beautiful bold lip! I have hooded ? which is the most aggravating thing when I’m wanting a new eye color look. I have some tools in my toolbox for tips and tricks but it never seems to get the job done. I’m never satisfied with the end results but I am my worst critic ??????. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!!

Hi Jaclyn!
With hooded eyes (which I have), I’ve found that what really helps is just a lot of trial and error with your shadow placement. Keep practicing every day and take pics along the way to document your progress, and soon you’ll figure out what eyeshadow shapes work best for you. I typically do a half-moon shape, with a very slight winging out at the outer corners, as the outside corners of my eyes slope downward, and I like to create a slight illusion of lift. Also if you plan to do multiple colors, use an eyeshadow base first. The NARS one is really good. So is Chanel’s. 🙂

Devoted to Chili looks beautiful on you! I’m always on the lookout for a replacement brown shadow for when I run out of the dark brown in the EL Desert Heat quad. It’s the perfect shade for me as an everyday liner (top lash line). Give a Glam might be a possibility. 🙂
