MAC Viva Glam VI Special Edition Lipstick Makes It Official: Lavender Lipstick Reigns This Spring

Wowza! MAC’s really pushing lavender lipstick this spring.

Prince would be so proud! 🙂

Earlier this year there was the lovely Lavender Whip, a creamy pale violet from the Cremesheen collection.

Then, Fashion Mews Lipstick, a sheer and frosty lavender, purred her way into my heart as part of the MAC Hello Kitty collection.

And now it’s creamy pinkish purple Viva Glam VI Special Edition Lipstick ($14), the latest addition to the Viva Glam line.

The MAC Viva Glam line of lipsticks and lipglosses has been helping to raise awareness and funds for the fight against HIV and AIDS for years. 100% of the proceeds from the sale of Viva Glam products go to the MAC AIDS Fund, a charity supporting men, women and children living with HIV/AIDS. Awesome, right?

I’m fully on board the lavender lipstick train this year — *TOOT TOOT* — but what do you think? Too much or just right?

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

P.S. The MAC Grand Duos Mineralize Blushes are slated to arrive at MAC counters tomorrow. I’m not sure how I feel about them yet, but I’ll withhold judgment until I’ve seen ’em in person.

Hi Karen. I like Fashion Mews very much but not LW. I don’t know what I will feel about VG VI until I try it. It looks gorgeous and pink on you! 🙂

I saw Lavender whip in person and was a bit scared of the color. I tried out fast friends lipgloss from the HK collection and I fell in love. It looks great over the strayin’ lipstick also from the HK collection. Overall, I like the new trend of the lavender lipsticks.

I’m really into violet as it’s my favorite color, but I’m not liking it on the lips. It’s too strange. The Viva Glam color isn’t too wild but I think I’m going to stick with my pinks and reds.

    Hi Karen,

I like how they look on you. I might check it out whenever I wonder into Nordies. =P

Btw, I tried out the bright eyeliner today, and the look was awesome. I used MAC Paint Pot in Perky all over my lid to wake it up, and just lined it with Wet n Wild’s MegaLiner in Turquoise. The look was awesome, and even my MALE supervisor took notice!

But of course, that would have been way too easy. I got a call from the manager of the department I’m trying to get into. It’s a huge promotion in terms of position (though not pay), so it’s really serious. He asked to meet later in the day, and how can I refuse? Tell him, “Sorry, but I’m wearing bright green eyeliner and I don’t think I should meet with you today.” So I had to remove it and apply some neutral shades on. There’s always tomorrow!

Judging from the swatches I think the VG shade is prettiest but I’d really like to see all three in person. I like when they come out with new shades once in awhile, so keep ’em coming I say 🙂

P.S. Off topic, I swung by Sephora today during my lunch hour to check out Smashbox’s Muse palette. I was dissapointed, the colors were too sheer and the swatches didn’t last long on my hand at all! I still wanted to buy
the muse cream liners (love ’em!) but they were sold out 🙁 I did leave w/a Benefit cream shadow in Samba-dy loves me, can’t wait to use it tomorrow:)

I own and love both Lavender Whip and Fashion Mews. Both work well with my NC45 complexion. I am waiting for the release of the Sugarsweet Collection next week, so I will have to check this color out along with the Grand Duos on my next trip to MAC.

I really like the new color! Ugh, I was going to suspend any further shopping activities (my credit card is screaming from overuse…) but I think I’m going to have to make an exception for one more… =)

The strange thing is that the new limited edition of mineralized duo blushes are already available here in the Central Europe. I saw them personally last week in a MAC store, which is sooner the in the US I think.

    Hi Shefali,

That’s Viva Glam VI, which is a warm plum with pearl. The Special Edition one’s frost with more blue and pink in it.

Happy Thursday! Are you going to check out Grand Duos (I’m doing a post right now on it, will be up in a few) today?

At first I was dubious – but since then I’ve bought LW & FM and I’m loving the look of Viva Glam VI SE, which seems the most wearable out of the 3.

      Hi Cloudburst,

I wasn’t sure about it at first, either. I was sold after I put it on… I can’t wait to pop some gloss on top, or perhaps something with plummy sparkles!

    Hi Karen
These lipsticks are so pretty! I’m going to Macy’s tomorrow so I will definitely be checkin out the mac counter. I have to be really careful when I pick out lip colors though. My pale skin, face shape, blah blah… If I’m not careful, I end up looking like a clown. I recently discovered my new favorite beauty channel on youtube. It’s called “all that glitters 21.” Are you familiar with it? If not you should check it out-the girl is always using mac in her tutorials and she’s really good.

      Hi Jenn,

I haven’t heard of her channel… I’ll check out her stuff! You know I loves me some MAC. 🙂

I hope that one of these lavender lovelies works for ya. When I’m not sure of a lipstick color, one thing I like to do is to live with it for awhile. I’ll put it on when I’m at the counter, and then walk around and check back on it an hour or two later to see if I still like it. I also like to use pictures. If I take a pic of myself with the lipstick on and I like it afterwards I’ll go for it! Pics usually can make or break a shade for me.

Hey Karen! I’m actually not checking out Grand Duos. I’ve been really picky lately about products I buy from MAC. Plus, I feel like these would look super frosty on me. And, none of the colors really jump out at me. I’m excited about Style Warriors. That is TOTALLY up my alley 🙂
