Getting Back to My Roots (Hair and Makeup) With MAC Sable, Saddle, Shroom and Club Eye Shadows

February 10th, 2014 by Karen 40 Comments

Maybe it’s ’cause I just got my hair dyed, and I haven’t been this close to my natural hair color in years, but I got the sudden urge this morning to also get back to my makeup roots, so I busted out a few of my nearest and dearest MAC friends.

MAC Sable, Saddle, Shroom and Club

The shades I’m wearing on my eyes today are some of the first MAC colors I picked up way back when I started collecting, and all of them are in the permanent line.

You know those tried-and-true shades that never let you down? Well, that’s what MAC Sable, Saddle, Shroom and Club are for me (and sometimes All That Glitters). I think of these guys as MAC classic colors.

Here’s a breakdown of the eyes, and all of the products are from MAC…

  • Lids: All That Glitters Eye Shadow
  • Crease: Saddle and Sable Eye Shadows
  • Outer Corner: Carbon Eye Shadow
  • Inner Corner and Brow bone: Shroom Eye Shadow
  • Lash and water lines: Smolder Eye Khol
  • Lower lash lines: Club Eye Shadow
  • Lashes: Extended Play Gigablack Mascara
  • Brows: Brun Eye Shadow

That’s my new favorite cheek combo, too — MAC Cantaloupe Blush topped with MAC Golden Bronze Iridescent Powder/Loose worn as a highlighter.

Because I thought the eyes were already pretty busy, I wanted to keep my lips simpler, so I just did a swipe of Fulfilled Plushglass.

Anybody else wearing classic MAC today?

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

Classic mac is the best! I too am an nc 42. I live in all that glitters on my lid, ricepaper on inner corners and highlight, saddle in crease. Swiss chocolate on outer 1/3 of lid, Costa riche liner blended out w/swiss chocolate under eyes.
Love give me sun as bronzer/blush and have you tried kevin aucoin tropical days to highlight???? Awesome!!!!

Love those colors! One of the first looks a MAC MUA did on me when I first got into MAC was Naked Lunch on browbone, Sumptuous Olive packed on lid, Soft Brown in crease, and Club on the outer corner with nice dark black cat eye (I’m Asian with brown eyes). It was gorgeous and is one of my fav looks still! Another MUA did Brule on browbone, Star Violet packed on lid, Saddle in crease, and Sketch on outer corner with brown cat eye, also gorgeous. I’ve always kept those combos in my main MAC palette because of nostalgia and just because they’re super pretty! 🙂 I’ve loved picking up colors you’ve recommended though, haven’t had a chance to use All That Glitters yet, and still wanting to get Greensmoke!

Wow. You look glowing Karen. I love the hair color. I only have Sable out of those colors but I could probably recreate it with UD eyeshadows.

I absolutely adore your hair colour. Our natural colours were given to us for a reason ;). I also think that rick chocolatey eye looks suit you best, and one of these days you’re going to make me buy Cantaloupe blush LOL.

Karen – help! I am new to the world of liquid liners and I can’t seem to find one that doesn’t crease on my lids! I use primer and MAC painterly paint pot, but it still creases. I’ve tried Stila’s stay all day waterproof liner and MAC’s classic liquid liner. Any advice? Thanks!

Just as much as I think orange lipstick was made for you, Karen, I think the same goes for your current hair cut/length and color: low-key, but sexy-sophisticated. And it’s making your face so glow-y. A certain husky kitty has been envious, I bet…!

    Love the look!

I don’t own much MAC (but am working on changing that), but I’m wearing the Bare Study Paint Pot on my eyes today, layered with Naked Lunch. I have a grey from another brand in the crease.

I also got some samples of MAC Face and Body, and am going to be testing them this week. I need to mix the white and the N1, I think it’s going to end up being a 50/50 mix.
