Kiss ‘n’ Telling on the New MAC Powder Kiss Lipsticks

October 2nd, 2018 by Karen 28 Comments

Besos!

I just want your extra time and your mwah-mwah-mwah-mwah-mwah, KISS!

New Powder Kiss Lipsticks from MAC! These mattes feel just like the luscious Chanel Rouge Allure Velvets — lightweight, so more like a lip balm than a lipstick — but even creamier. So there’s little-to-no chance of cat butt lips. (I can hear you sighing from relief.) And, dare I say it, they’re kinda moisturizing? Just a little.

  • Must apply on dry lips (NON NEGOTIABLE!); otherwise, patchy
  • Taste and smell like vanilla, so classic MAC
  • Will move outside your natural lip line if you rub your lips together a lot
  • Special matte packaging (did you catch that?)
  • Pigment levels — between medium and just shy of full, depending on color
  • Less pigmented than MAC Matte lipsticks
  • Fade after a meal or a cup of coffee
  • Wear time is about an hour — two, tops
  • Watch out for vertical lip lines with the paler beige colors and pinks (they will highlight them if you apply too much).
  • Stand-outs: Mull It Over (a dirty peach) for everyday wear, and Fall in Love (a bright creamy fuchsia) for special occasions
  • I’m still tracking down prices, but it’s safe to assume they’ll be priced similar to regular MAC lipsticks, so about $18.50. Each lippie is $19, and they’re all permanent

Final take? These are a’ight… They feel really smooth and lightweight, and the hazy matte finish is trés “I’m rock ‘n’ roll and too cool to care,” but the formula scoots around a lot and doesn’t last long on my lips. If you’re going for this type of soft matte look, the Chanel Velvets look very similar, and while they’re more expensive at $37, I think they’re user-friendlier because they don’t move around as much. Plus, they last longer.

If you’re curious, you can smooch the 16 MAC Powder Kiss Lipsticks starting October 11th, which is when they arrive at select MAC counters and the MAC website. 🙂

I’m an NC 42, in case you’re wondering.

Well this FINALLY happened

crazy rich asians
IT ONLY TOOK FOREVER.

I broke my personal vow to only read books I can check out out from the library (don’t ask me why I do these things; I just do!) and bought Crazy Rich Asians because I still couldn’t find the book at the library for like the 20th time. I just couldn’t take it anymore, LOL!

Excited to start this tonight and see how it stacks up to the movie, which I loved.

Oh, and remember our chat about adult versus childrens coloring books? Well, I bought a new Melissa and Doug Jumbo Coloring Pad for Connor, and I may or may not have also bought one for myself…

I am also *this close* to buying my own personal set of Crayola crayons.

Who wants to color with me? 🙂

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

    Get the crayons!

I tried reading CRA but I hated it and stopped after like 3 chapters. I hope you have better luck than me! I’m totally down for seeing the movie, though.

I want to, but I’m gonna have to hide them from Connor, LOL! She loves to break hers in half, oy!

Yes, get the huge 96 box of Crayolas. I would totally color with you. I just got the new Color-It Colorful Unicorns coloring book, and I’m stupidly excited about it! https://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Dstripbooks&field-keywords=color+it+colorful+unicorns

I love the GIF you picked for the lipsticks. LOL You never disappoint. The lipsticks look very pretty, except maybe that first super-pale, white-based pink.

I want a box for my own because Connor likes to peel the labels off and then break her crayons in half. I guess you can say she prefers to customize her art supplies? LOL

Your new unicorn book is gorgeous. Have sooo much fun coloring!

Seriously it’s what they do best! Well, it’s the second best thing they do best. First best is flopping on the ground and going limp whenever they don’t get their way. ha ha

I think Connor is the cutest. She’s so little I bet the full size crayons feel enormous in her tiny hands. I’d say multiply a new crayon by 3 or 4 and that’s how it feels to tiny kids just learning the grasping and coloring or writing skills. Occupational therapists actually recommend stubby pencils to help with gripping and therfore writing in preschool etc

I’ve been so excited about these, not sure which one I REALLY need though.

I listed to the audio book of all three of the Crazy Rich Asians books, and they’re great.

      Hi Breyerchic04,

I like audiobook versions of books too! For some reason though it’s always faster for me to read the book than to listen to it? And I have to really concentrate with audiobooks. Anyway, I might listen to it after I’m done reading it just for fun.

What book are you reading right now?

I usually read but I read these while knitting, so audio was great.
My current book is Charlaine Harris’s An Easy Death. I’m not sure how I feel about it yet, but I loved her Southern Vampire Mysteries books and some of her other stuff.

idk about your library, but at the ones around my town you can request books to be put on hold. That way, as soon as someone’s returned it, it gets saved for you!

      Hi Dia,

Mine does that too, but I dunno… I have this vision of walking up to the shelf and just finding it and checking it out? I know, so silly. I just started the book last night. Already on Chapter 3 (I’m trying to pace myself).

I was very excited at first, but after your description they just sound nice, but not outstanding-need-to-get-them great. I will see.

Oh, and get your own crayons, but hide them! Kids find and destroy everything.

I actually like the idea of a balmy, less-pigmented matte lipstick! But I’m not sure about the wear time. Maybe this will be a formula I try with back-to-MAC credit instead of buying one. Scattered Petals does look gorgeous though. Actually, it might work with a clear lip liner.

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. Or a matching lip liner? They look really cool — they just move a lot!

Hey Katie, I really liked the Bobby Brown line of “crushed lip color” that were matte but also less pigmented. they also last quite a while 😉 I was surprised how much I enjoyed using them and they didn’t dry out my lips either!

Wait! You don’t have your own crayons? What are you waiting for? Get yourself a set and make sure to hide them so they don’t get destroyed.
I had a hard time with the first few chapters of CRA, but once I got into it, I read all three books. I liked the movie and felt they did a really good job of getting a complex book onto the screen. BUT I really liked the books so much more.

I don’t! I always end up using Connor’s. She likes to peel of the labels and then break them in half. I guess she’s really into customization? LOL

In on Chapter 3 so far. Trying to pace myself. 🙂

Yeah, I can’t pace myself with reading. If I get into something I devour it as quickly as I can.
Dear Daughter is home. I picked her up at SFO yesterday. When we walked into her apartment Nibbler came up and rubbed against my legs first. Lol. A snub for being abandoned by my daughter for two weeks. But she sent me a video this morning of Nibbler purring up a storm, so I guess she’s forgiven.
She’s coming by for dinner tomorrow night. From what she tells me, she was the best navigator in her group. And the only woman, too. From the little bits she told me so far, it sounded like quite a challenge. But I think she’s gained a lot of confidence from the experience.

That’s so awesome! Super cool that she decided to do something like this. It sounds like something I would’ve loved to have done in my 20s… If I liked the outdoors. LOL I wonder if she’s going to be into camping and backpacking now?

It also makes me wonder what Connor will be like in the future. Maybe someday I’ll be watching her cats and picking her up from the airport after a big adventure.

ROFLOL, no way she’s going to be into camping and backpacking. She camps if it’s needed to do what she wants to do. She likes white water rafting and will camp overnight when she does a multiple day trip. But camping for the sake of camping, no. Unless we did horse camping, like riding across Patagonia or Iceland or somewhere. She said this trip just reinforced how much she loves civilization and art museums and the ballet.
She’s always been a rather intrepid child. She was born overseas, so we trusted her to babysitters from an early age. She quickly got used to being left with babysitters, neighbors and any relative who would take her. She’s always liked going out and about. If she misbehaved in public, had a tantrum because she didn’t get her way, I’d just pick her up, take her home and have her spend a couple of hours alone in her room. I think I did it twice, maybe three times before she figured out that misbehaving meant missing out on all the action. This was also the kid who went with her 6th grade science class to Florida one summer, to a learning camp in Wellesley, MA by herself in 7th grad and to Washington D.C and NYC in 8th grade, all without complaint. We had a deposit on a boarding school for high school until she got into the academic one she’d been wanting to attend for ages. Sending her off to college was harder on me than on her.
If Connor is brave and bold and curious now, she will be that way when she gets older.

Did you see they have a 120 set of crayons? Get your own, plus those cool new skin toned crayons and markers. I’m not a huge artist but I have a box of pastels and love coloring with them. Our rule is that broken crayons get tossed.
I love the CRA trilogy, but be aware that there are a lot of characters…many were diminished or combined in the movie. I listened to it (our library has them thru Libby) and found it easier to follow, pronounce, etc.

I too wait and check out books from the library! However I picked up Crazy Rich Asians at Costco (getting my 2% $) as the wait at the library is 300+ people for a book and 100+ for the audio or digital version. I had hopes of reading it on the plane but stuck to reading on my phone cause toddler travels.

    Hi Karen !

I’m so surprised because I bought three of the new powderkiss at Mac today and the smell is not the classic smell. But I think there is no problem, one would be weird but the three… They look like gorgeous anyway 🙂
