MAC Hello Kitty Kouture: Swarovski, Anyone?

March 4th, 2009 by Karen 41 Comments

mac hello kitty kouture sheer mystery powder

Heya, ladies!

I had a lot of homework today, which is why I haven’t posted more. My Joaquin Phoenix mock obituary took longer than expected. I had Joaquin meet his end in a pyrotechnics accident on his debut rap tour. 🙂 We’ll see what my teacher thinks about that…

After school I figured I’d reward myself with a quick trip to the MAC counter.

I left with a pan of Amber Lights eyeshadow (thanks for the recommendation, Dao!) and a few swatches and pictures of the new MAC Hello Kitty Kouture.

An extension of last month’s MAC Hello Kitty Collection, Kitty Kouture’s powders and lipglosses bring on the bling.

The five-piece collection includes three shades of Sheer Mystery Powders ($90, holy WOW!) and two shades of Dazzleglass lipglosses ($28). Each comes dressed to the nines in Swarovski crystals.

No doubt, this bling looks hot!

Aren’t the HK charms too cute? You can even detach them from the tube and use them on a keychain.

Kitty Kouture goes on sale tomorrow. A MAC makeup artist told me that the hottest item on pre-order has been the Sheer Mystery Powder in Dark Secret (darkest of the three shades).

I love the packaging, but $90 is just a little lot too much to pay for it — think of all the eyeshadows we could get with that!

The Dazzleglass lipglasses are more reasonably priced. I liked Dazzlepuss, the bright pink shade.

What do you think? It looked cute in the tube but applied sheer on my lips. I passed on it today, but I’ll give it more thought over the next few days.

More MAC in the hopper

We have a bunch of exciting MAC launches to look forward to over the next couple months. 🙂

Later this month, the Grand Duos and Sugarsweet collections arrive. I can’t wait for the Mineralize Blush duos in Grand Duos. I think those look divine, and the Shadesticks in Sugarsweet look good enough to eat. YUM!

I hope your Wednesday was smooth sailing. Onward to Friday!

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

Hello Kitty just launched here yesterday and I took a peek. I wasn’t swayed by it though – thank goodness! It also appears that the Grand Duos mineralize blush duos are already here! I saw them all and Moon River is exceedingly pretty but swatches shimmery pink. However, I found them all too shiny/shimmery for me so I passed. I always though collections reached us later so I wasn’t aware the Grand Duos blushes aren’t out yet!

      Hi ParisB,

I wonder why they didn’t launch here first… hmm!

Well, even though you didn’t pull the trigger at there will still be lots of good stuff to look forward to in the next few months. 🙂

I’m not really sold on the HK Kouture line, but maybe I’ll go check it out later this week. OMG, I’m far too excited for the Grand Duos and Sugar Sweet collections. So excited I’ve already started setting aside some money so I can buy what I want… With a little less guilt on my shoulders. Just another way I’ve learned to cope with the current economic situation 😉

I’ve been rocking so much waterproof makeup lately my face is tires of the extra step of makeup remover. That said, I’m happy that some dry weather is in San Francisco’s future!!

    Happy hump day! 🙂

      Hi Lesley,

Happy hump day to you, too. 🙂

Looks like we’ll be getting a little break in the rain today, hooray! I hope it stays dry enough for me to take a nice long walk.

What do you have your eye on for the Grand Duo and the Sugar Sweet Collections?

      Hi Sylvie,

I have a Sheer Mystery Powder compact I got two years back. It’s basically a regular face powder. It’s a more finely milled than MAC’s regular powders and feels very soft to the touch.

They are really cute, but they are sooooo expensive!
Im also waiting for the Grand duo’s and the Sugar Sweet collection, they will be available on my birthday, how cool is that? And how great is the Style warrior collection! I love the animal prints!

    Hugs!

      Hi Wendy,

That’s super cool! Are you going to spend your bday at MAC? 😉

What are you planning on getting? I’m gonna be all over those Shadesticks!

They are pretty but…kinda just look like clear or very sheer tinted gloss with some sparkles… if anyone purchases these things, its for the packaging. lol

Please say those compacts are refillable!! (Not like I’d ever buy one, but still!)

The Grand Duos look awesome, and I like the MFSs in the Sugarsweet collection (even though they got a bit more expensive…hopefully they got bigger too) and some of the lipsticks look great as well. The lipglosses look a bit gimmicky, so…eh. Do you have the 188, Karen? I’ve been wondering about that one for a while.

      Hi Elle,

From what I can see from the MAC website I don’t think they are. A few years ago I purchased a Sheer Mystery Powder and part of the reason I could justify it was because it came with a refill… It’s a good powder, but $90 is a hellavu lot for some cute packaging.

Are you thinking of getting the 188? I have a 187 SE and I like it, so I’m guessing the 188 would be pretty spiffy to have around, too.

Hello Kitty just came out yesterday in the UK so I quickly picked up some stuff to order online. I was already broke so I begged for some money from my parents. RESULT !! I got £66 off them 🙂 I ended up ordering, Pink Fish TLC, Pretty Baby Beauty Powder, Mimmy Lipglass, Milk Pigment and guess what ?! Grand Duos is already out here ! xDxD I always thought we got things late so I quickly snapped up a blush in Moon River.
    It looks so cute 🙂

That $90 powder is WAY TOO MUCH for me to spend right now. And even the $28 Dazzleglass. The colors aren’t that exciting to me and there is a whole Dazzleglass collection coming out later in the spring.
Personally, I’ll be skipping HKK and saving for Sugarsweet! I want 3 shadesticks, some e/s, an MSF, etc!

Yeah, $90 = waaaay too steep for packaging. I love a cute compact as much as the next girl, but I like $90 more. 🙂

I have a 187 SE too, and have been thinking about getting the 188. I haven’t really looked at it in person, but whenever brushes get ‘promoted’ with a new line, I always get tempted. Hmmm… 🙂

I bought the sheer mystery powder when it was launched w/ the Couture collection 3 or 4 years ago? It’s a very good powder, but back then it only cost $60.00 CDN, so it was more affordable. I wouldn’t pay what they are asking now.

I would like to get the Dazzleglasses but I really need to cut back on the spending (I just bought a pair of patent leather boots), plus I think I’m more interested in the Grand Duos & MSF’s comming out w/ Sugar Sweet.

      Hi Cloudburst,

I bought mine then, too. Do you have the square, black compact with the grid design on the top? It’s heavy, right?

The good thing about that compact is that it came with a refill! LOL, that’s how I remember justifying it, at least!

    Hi Karen,

Unfortunately I live in the Netherlands, so I have to wait because the release date is always a couple of weeks later, but maybe a lovely friend of mine can order them on my birthday in the States 🙂 That would be great too.

Some of the collections are not availabe in the Netherlands at all (like Manish Arora) so Im really happy to know my sweet friend who lives nearby a Nordstrom shop.

I really want the Shade sticks and the lovely Peppermint Patty nailpolish (I’m a nailpolish addict!) ohhh and the MSF (the one with the lavender tint) looks great, that one is also on my wishlist 🙂 Whats on your list for this collection besides the shadesticks?

    Have a nice day!!

      Hi Wendy,

That’s sweet of your friend to do that for you! It must feel like Christmas when you get those packages.

Wouldn’t it be nice if the MAC counter also gave out cupcakes with Sugarsweet? Right now I’ve got my eye on Perfect Topping MSF, Dear Cupcake and Aquavert eyeshadows, and Sweet Thing and Touch Lipstick. I’m not really sure how I feel about the Tri-Colour Lipglass, they look need but I am not feeling particularly lusty over them. 🙂 I can’t wait to see the face charts! I bet the looks will be really soft and pretty.

That’s cool that you’re a polish addict! I happen to love Essie. Do you guys get that in your country?

I wonder why Dark Secret is so popular. Maybe people want to use it as a bronzer/contour color? I looked online and it looks much darker than the picture you took. Still very pretty though. Too bad the d/g are somewhat sheer and too bad I don’t have the $$ to begin with. Haha. Btw, I thought your idea for Joaquin’s passing was very appropriate 😛 Very ironic

      Hi Stephie,

I was wondering the same thing, too. I swatched it on the back of my hand it seemed very yellow and at least three shades darker than my skin tone. I guess they want to use it as a contour shade.

LOL, in my story I also had Joaquin guest star on Jay-Z, Kanye and Soulja Boy albums!

pass. i like packaging but not to that extent. estee lauder’s always had fancy compacts and i was never interested. i like cute mac packaging but i would never pay $90 for a face powder. i too bought the mystery powder two years ago although it is finely milled, somehow i detected a scent like some cosmetics have that i disliked. if mac came out with eyeshadows and blush in one compact that cost $90, why not.

Red velvet are my FAVS! I just made some on Valentine’s Day with homemade butter cream frosting and they were divine!

I am doing good, on my way to Friday and the weekend looks sunny! I’m going to Napa (well Rutherford, to the Rutherford Grill) on Sat then maybe to the outlets up there. The back is about the same, I go in for an MRI next week to see what’s going on. I just feels like I have been sitting on my arse for 20 hours all the time, very strange.

    Hi Karen,

Nope, we have only have the regular beauty brands like Chanel, Clinique, Lancome, Estee etc, Bobbi Brown just arrived at a couple of stores. We only have a small amount of MAC shops (most in stores). Essie is great, and I also love China Glaze and Zoya (also not available) and my favourite OPI! OPI is available in the Netherlands but very expensive, like 12 euro (around 15 dollar) for a bottle, so I buy them on the internet for 5,50 dollar. 🙂
