MAC Cosmetics New Collections: Ready, Set, Mineralize!

July 7th, 2008 by Karen 44 Comments

Three new MAC Cosmetics releases (yes, girl, THREE!) arrive at MAC counters this Thursday, July 10. The Electroflash, New View and Sonic Chic collections feature Mineralize products — baked mineral eyeshadows, blushes and powders distinguished by the veins of shimmer running through the pans.

Detailed information about all three collections is available on the MAC website, but here’s a basic rundown of what we can expect to see later this week.

Electroflash – nine Mineralize eyeshadow duos; four lipsticks and lipglasses
Sonic Chic – nine Mineralize blushes in gold, pink and bronze shimmer shades
New View – five Mineralize powder duos, each with one matte and one shimmer shade

I’m a raving fan of MAC’s Mineralize eyeshadow duos, so I’m really looking forward to Electroflash, especially the Fresh Green Mix and Love Connection duos. I’ve also been foaming at the mouth over the Sonic Chic blushes.

New View hasn’t piqued my interest like the other two pending collections have, but, hey, we’ll see if that changes once I see it in person.

If you’re new to MAC Mineralize products, you may find these posts helpful. They’re from last year’s Antiquitease collection.

  • I love you, MAC Antiquitease!

  • Red Lips and Gold Eyes: The MAC Antiquitease Queen’s Sin Look
  • MAC Antiquitease: A Soft, Romantic Look for Date Night

I just got back from a quick run around the neighborhood. It was a preparatory anniversary dinner run, so I was focussed on serious calorie burning!

El Hub still hasn’t said where he’s taking me for dinner tonight. He’s trying to keep it a secret as long as possible, which is sweet, but he is a boy, so for all I know we’re going to In ‘n Out… Lawd, please tell me we’re not going to In ‘n Out tonight, LOL!

I’m sorry I’ve been so MIA from the comments today, but I’ll check in before bed.

I hope your Monday wasn’t too rough, but at least we got it out of the way.

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

I can’t wait for Sonic Chic, I’m getting all 9 blushes. I’m a blush whore.

Unfortunately, I’m not going to participate in this LE round at all. Anything mineral or mineralize from MAC makes my skin itch big time. New View looks like those sculpt and shape foundations last year. I just came back from my birthday bash, it was a lot of fun! I hope you’ll have a nice dinner as well.

i♥makeup – I was feeling the same way but I am going to wait and see them in person. I am bound to get at least three of them…or more. LOL

Here is what I am hoping to get:
    Electro Flash-
    Odd Couple e/s duo
    Fresh Green Mix e/s duo
    Polar Opposite e/s duo
    Hot Contrast e/s duo

    Sonic Chic
At least three of the blushes. I need to see them IRL.

    New View
    Medium Dark/Natural And Shimmer MSF

I love not being on a no buy! And I am definitely checking out the Chanel beauty.

I like Fresh Green Mix and Sky and Sea eyeshadows. Some of the lip colors look nice too. I like the looks you did with Antiquitease collection. How do I use the powders in New View? I don’t want a shimmery face.

I’m going to be out of town on Thursday, so I already reserved my Dainty blush! None of the eyeshadows really speak to me… Fresh Green Mix is super-gorgeous, but just not really my shade of green. It’ll look amazing with your warm skintone though!

Oh man, Odd Couple looks like the perfect duo for me! (Ditto for Two to Glow.) Odd Couple looks like Mercurial from last summer’s mineralize collection (which I loved) paired with a deep purple; it would be a great way for you to experiment with your purple eye! But I don’t need any more, no, I don’t…

And I just finished eating my In’N’Out. 😉

    Hi Karen,

I brought a few bits from the new collection last week. London got these before the US this time….weird. The shadows are boootiful, but quite glittery…so I look forward to one of your face of the day’s if you get some. I brought Love Connection and play on Plums. The blushers are lovely too….reminds me of the Beauty powder blushers, but softer and pastle-like ….I brought Warm Soul…very pretty and compliments NC35 skintone perfectly. New View, I brough thr medium one…..which I have already, but the shimmer bit sol it to me…..very very pretty…I’m in love with mine !!

And I just got my Cool Heats, which I am still getting over. How can they come up with new stuff so quickly??? 🙁

    Hi Miss QQ,

I have the Mineralize powder foundation and it looks *really sparkly* in the jar, but when you get it on it’s not sparkly at all. Ultimately I’ll have to see how the New Views perform in person, but if they use the same technology it might end up being very wearable. I’ll let ya know if it’s too disco.

LOL! I literally have an In ‘n Out right down the street from me. It’s quite dangerous in the middle of the night, especially when I get a vanilla shake/French fry craving.

    Hi Sophia,

I’ve wondered the same thing myself. I guess the high release rate is one of the things the brand is known for. It’s cool in so many ways (always new stuff to look at) but at the same time it sucks when things you really love get discontinued.

What was your favorite from Cool Heat?

    Hey Karen!

The week’s been good so far…other than the occasional boy drama (since when do boys become more high maintenance/drama/WHATVEVER than girls? For realz…) that has left me in a “will he text me? call me? have I sent him one text too many?” tizzy, nothing too exciting. Trying to get some work done, doing some bills (my dog has had some recent vet trips that have left my wallet hurting :(), and trying to decide whether or not to buy some of these new MAC goodies, since I’m holding out for those Cult of Cherry items come fall. Which blushes look good to you? I gotta see the eyeshadows in person, too…I haven’t tried anything mineralized from MAC so these will be a first for me!

What about you? How was dinner last night? 🙂

Usually I’d be all about ElectroFlash, because it’s totally up my alley. But sadly, all the colors either don’t thrill me or I have the exact same color elsewhere. Poo.

But SonicChic has just SOOO many hot colors!! I can’t wait to get Pleasantry and Merrily!!

    Hi Tiffany,

I like to use flat, dense, stiff brushes. I like the MAC 252 to apply color all over the lid and the 239 for detail work. Dunno if you use pigments, but these are also great for loose product application, too!

    Hi Elle,

Ah, boy drama. 🙂 I hope that if you like him and if he’s worthy of you that he calls!

What kind of dog do you have? Have you heard about pet insurance? I don’t have a pet now (besides the neighbor’s stupid cat, who dissed me again this morning!) but when I do have one I think I’m going to get it.

Sadly, I’m lemming after all of the blushes, because blushes are my weakness! It will really depend on what they look like in person. I’m partially hoping they won’t be all that because I’m lusting after the Cult of Cherry things too.

Dinner last night was really fun. We went to a Japanese restaurant and had suishi and beers. It was really chill and just wonderful.

Today hasn’t been as crazy work wise (thank gawd). After work I’m heading to the salon to get a much needed hair cut! I have no idea what to do with my hair so I think I just might tell the stylist to go crazy (but leave it long).

Do you have any plans for tonight?

    Hey Karen (again!)

No plans for tonight, probably just cuddling up with my doggie (she’s a border collie/beagle mix and 100% nuts) and maybe watching a movie at home (gotta love Netflix). My friends have been so lame lately and haven’t wanted to go out much, and my best friend lives in Canada, so it’s tough to do as many girls’ nights out with her as I’d like! I have heard about pet insurance, but I think it’s a bit too late for her to get it (she’s 11 and usually her big health issues aren’t covered a lot by insurance…as far as I know, at least!). I think it’s a good idea when you first get a new pet, though! Would you get a dog or cat? Or something more exotic?

Lol, I haven’t decided if the boy is worth it yet. Boy has some issues (issues he can’t help having, but issues nonetheless), and has admitted he thinks I’m too “good for him” (or is that one of those “I’m just not that into you” techniques? ;)) so…I’m trying not to put too much thought into it right now. But thanks for the sweet comment!

Hmmm, I’m loving all of the blushes too…guess we’ll have to wait to see how they look in person to decide, eh? Who knows, we could both be in the market for 9 new blushes! The Cherry colletion looks unbeliveably awesome. I love reds and everything looks gorgeous.

Glad to know you had an awesome anniversary dinner! And you sound just like me when I get my haircut. “Uhhh…do what you’d like, but please leave it long!” I’m too lazy to work with anything shorter than shoulder-length hair! Enjoy your night!

    Hi Elle,

Aww, your doggie is an old girl! Does she have white on her snout yet? Hey, at least staying at home and watching a movie is cheaper than going out. Think of all the money you can save for the Cherry collection. 🙂

I always had pets around when I was growing up, so eventually when I have more room I’ll probably have a mini-zoo with cats, dogs, rabbits and birds. I think El Hub is kinda dreading the day when we have a real yard, because I have the tendency to magically acquire animals even when they aren’t mine.

Regarding the issues boy, I think that’s a good attitude to have. See where it goes, and if it doesn’t work out in the romantic sense, you’ll at least have a new friend. 🙂

I am going to try to exercise some self restraint when it comes to the blushes. Whether or not I am successful is another story. The Colour Forms palettes are also rolling out too, which throws a wrench in the mix. Ahhh! So much makeup and so little time!

Take care and talk to ya later. 🙂
