Intensify Your Highlights With This Super Simple Tip

July 10th, 2015 by Karen 11 Comments

Oh, hello glow!
Oh, hello glow!

Glisten up!

OK, are you glistening?

Good. Because if I could, I would open all of the highlighters in the world above my head and just pour ’em all over me, LOL! All I wanna do is glisten, and I wanna do it all day long.

To say that I’m a little highlighter cray-cray at the moment would be a bit of an understatement, and I’ve been playing with some different techniques, like this one that I recently learned from a makeup artist buddy of mine named Candace. (HI, CANDACE! If you have time, check out her YouTube channel.)

This trick is simple but totally intensifies the glistening effect in a way that doesn’t leave my skin looking frosty.

All you need is a bottle of MAC Fix+ and a synthetic fiber face brush — synthetic because you’ll be wetting it, and synthetic fibers generally aren’t as absorbent as brushes with natural fibers, which in this case is good. I like the Real Techniques Contour Brush because it’s tapered and sits nicely on my cheekbones.

From the left, that’s MAC Fix+ Lavender, Real Techniques Contour Brush, Fix+ Yuzu, Fix+ Coconut and Fix+ Rose

Just put your face on, do your eyes, cheeks, lips and whatever else you plan to do, and after you’ve applied your face powder products, including your highlighter — for me it’s usually bronzer, blush and highlighter — mist your brush with a couple spritzes of MAC Fix+. Then take that brush and lightly tap the damp brush head onto the tops of your upper cheekbones.

That’s it. Voila. When the Fix+ dries, you’ll be left with a soft, glistening sheen and more glowing highlights. 🙂

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

Finally a use for that travel size bottle that’s been hanging out in my bottom drawer for the past 3 months. Great tip!

That´s a good one. Does it only work with Fix+ or with any setting spray?

I’ve never heard of this trick but I’ll have to give it a go! I normally intensify a shimmery pearl eye shadow with fix plus, I would think that this tip would make the same metallic look, but maybe it has to do with the glitters?

Hi Karen! I have a question for you but it isnt relative to this post haha just figured it would be the best way to get a response! So I’m pretty much the same skin tone as you NC40ish but for the NARS all day luminous foundation ive always been curious as to why you chose the shade Stromboli as opposed to the shade Barcelona? I feel like Barcelona is a close match but there’s just something off about it like it might be a pinch too light but idk i feel like stromboli might work a little bit better since it has stronger yellow undertones?
