Well, I’m sure that some people did talk about them back when they were first released, but they seem to have fallen into oblivion in favor of more recent launches…
We beauty lovers are a little like spoiled children sometimes, don’t you think? We like our brand new toys for about 10 seconds, and then we want newer, shinier things to keep ourselves entertained. 🙂
But today is a different day, and I’m bringing back the love for four these not-so-recent lipsticks I absolutely adore!

1. NARS Pure Matte Lipstick in Carthage ($28)
Ah, mon cher François, can you do no wrong?
Erm, actually…now that I think about it, there was that très dark Velvet Matte Lip Pencil that was pretty disappointing in the longevity department, but you know what? I forgive you, because her Dragon Girl sister definitely made up for it.
Oh, and not to mention the Pure Matte Lipstick in Carthage!
Boy, do I love it, especially in the summer months, when it gets so hot here in Bologna that I can’t really be bothered to lift an eye brush. I’ll put it on, coat my lashes with two or three pounds of mascara, and be out the door.
It ticks all the right boxes that my favorite lipsticks have to tick.
Bold? Check.
Matte? Check.
Comfortable to wear? Check.
Long-lasting? Check.
Fades evenly? Check.
François, I definitely forgive you for our Train Bleu mishap!
2. Maybelline SuperStay 14HR in Fuchsia Forever ($8.99)
You know those things in life that you just can’t wrap your head around no matter how hard you try? I mean, things like the fact that choker necklaces are back in fashion, how some people actually enjoy running, or why KIKO doesn’t have a liquid lipstick in their permanent collection?
Well, that I never hear anyone ever talk about Maybelline SuperStay 14HR in Fuchsia Forever is one of those.
It is just P H E N O M E N A L.
It’s a slightly muted fuchsia with a matte finish, and I find myself reaching for it no matter the time of the day or year. Add to that a formula that is incredibly long-lasting and comfortable to wear, and you get one of my most used lipsticks of all time.
I think it’s also worth mentioning that, normally, I don’t really do drugstore lipsticks. You know, I’ll buy them sometimes, because I want to try them, but then I kinda have to force myself to get out there and wear them.
With Fuchsia Forever? There’s no forcing involved. AT ALL.
3. Tarte LipSurgence Matte Lip Tint in Fiery ($24)
Where do I start with this one??
Look at that red! Slightly deeper, slightly muted… It’s so grown-up and elegant.
And the texture?! It glides and sort of melts onto the lips like no other lipstick I know. It almost feels like a gel — if that makes any sense. The only box Tarte LipSurgence Matte Lip Tint in Fiery doesn’t tick for me is the one for longevity, but that’s OK, because it fades evenly and, since it comes in crayon form, it’s really easy to reapply.
4. Estée Lauder Pure Color Envy Sculpting Lipstick in Rebellious Rose ($30)
Check this! The Estée Lauder Pure Color Envy Sculpting Lipstick in Rebellious Rose isn’t matte, and it isn’t bold, but I love it all the same. It’s highly moisturizing, exceptionally comfy, and it is sooo beautifying. Whether that’s due to the “sculpting” claim, who knows! But it’s very, very pretty and flattering — perfect for when I want some color on my lips but don’t want to go all out with my usual bolds.
How about you? Are there any products you swear by that the beauty world seems to have forgotten about?
How effortlessly chic you look and I love it more because I have dark hair and enjoy wearing denim shirts with statement lips too.
I still swear by my Ruby Woo, but I don’t think anyone has ever ignored it.
I NEED the Fuchsia Forever in my life now.
Enjoyed the post.

Thank you, Nivedita! I love Ruby Woo, too, but yeah, it’s probably the most popular lipstick in the world! 😉

Astor lip crayons, Max Factor Liquid Eyeshadows, just to mention a few. Oh, and the Estee Lauder Pure Color mascara that somehow made its way into my drawer ( I honestly can’t remember buying it – oops) that is amazing.

Oh, I’ve never tried anything from Astor, since we can’t find it down here.

I love the Estée Lauder Pure Color Envy Sculpting formula! I have two (or three… I need to check) shades and every time I wear them I’m reminded of how awesome they are.

You rock these lippies like it’s nobody’s business! And I agree about choker necklaces being back in style. Why??? And I’m dumbfounded that people like to run. I was training for a half marathon but finally figured out that I just don’t like it. Walking, yoga, Pilates, weight lifting- I love. But running? Meh…I’d rather buy lipstick 🙂
Haha, thank you!
Yeah, I like working out too, but running… NO, thanks!

Great post, Carolina! I enjoyed everyone of your posts.
I still think the NYX Soft Matte Lip Creams the best out there, given price, texture, lasting power, etc. They were one of the first on the super matte trend.

Great post! I think sheer lipsticks in general don’t get much love. I personally don’t like to use long wearing formulas everyday because they seem so drying my perpetually dry lips, but sheer lipsticks seem to do the trick. I love the NARS formula- dolce vita, damage and shrinagar are my favorites. I can reapply easily, the color payoff is perfect for everyday and they are very good to my dry lips.
Luckily, my lips seem to get along really well even with those formulas so many people find drying (like the MAC Retro Mattes). If your lips are dry, it’s good you often wear more moisturizing options, though.

Defiant Coral looks amazing!

You look so chic in each of these lip colors. With all the new foundations constantly being brought out, I find I keep going back to Armani Luminous Silk and Chantecaille Future Skin.
Thank you, Tatiana! It’s great when you find a foundation that really works for you, isn’t it?

These are all gorgeous on you! I’m not a big fan of matte lipsticks on myself, but I may have to give NARS Carthage a try!
Thank you, Fran!
Carthage is not an uncomfortable matte, you might like it!

It’s more the matte look — I think I look better with at least a bit of a sheen on my lips. Of course I can top with gloss, but it’s an extra step — I usually get a matte lipstick only when it’s an unusual color that I can’t get in a satin or glossy formula — like MAC Stone, for example. I have a lot of NARS lipsticks that I love, though, so I may try Carthage. Have you ever tried NARS Damage? It’s a sheer lipstick, but it’s a great MLBB shade if your lips are naturally a bit dark and plummy.
I’ve never tried it, but like the sound of it!

I love Loreal’s Volcanic lipstick it’s a red coral that looks great on me. I keep one in my purse and a backup at home! Another favorite is my Chanel Marilyn lipstick a sheer red that I think is discontinued . I rarely hear anyone mention it. You look great in fuchsia pinks! I have Nars Carthage and like I a lot.Need to wear it.
Carthage is amazing, I’ll be wearing it a lot in the upcoming months!

Haha I definitely agree about always wanting something new! I get that way about a lot of my makeup products. Love seeing your lipstick picks! It was a good reminder for me – I love my Estee Lauder Rebellious Rose but I haven’t used it in quite some time!
It’s a fantastic formula and pretty color, it deserves to be worn! 😉

Holy wow are you rocking the heck out of Fuchsia Forever! Seriously, you look amazing! Sometimes I’ll reach for an item and think ‘I wonder why I don’t hear about this anymore?’ But for the life of me I can’t think of a specific item.
Loving ALL of these. What liner are you using for the Fuchsia Forever? I struggle sometimes finding liners to match my drugstore finds!
