Dude. Target on the weekends before Christmas is freakin’ Battle Royale, especially if you park your booty in the middle of the aisle to take some pics of these hair styling tools from Kristin Ess.
(No joke, I was almost run over at least three times.)
The line is from Lauren Conrad’s hair gal, and some of the products are available at Tar-ghay now. I’ve tried a few of them so far, and overall…I think they’re OK.
I do like how these look, though, with the white and pale rose gold accents. It’s very T3-esque. The products range from $50 to $100, which is on the high side for Target.
The line includes a hair dryer, a few different curling irons, a flat iron and a very intriguing thingamabob for roots.
It’s the Texture Taming Root Control Iron, and it’s $55. In concept, it sounds like *the* answer to all my crazy hair woes…
“Ever wonder how to control all those baby hairs/edges that are too short to make it into your flat iron? Or those curly roots you can’t quite get to? That’s what this is for! It’s called a root control iron and it changes EVERYTHING. You can effortlessly smooth hairs around your hairline, or at the nape of your neck, and easily tame frizz, cowlicks, and unruly bangs by directing them with this comb/iron hybrid.”
And here’s a video of Kristin herself using the tool…

Um…WANT. My cowlicks and baby hairs have gone next level cray since I started growing out my grays, and unless I douse myself in hairspray, they stand up every which way, and I look like I’m walking around with a current of electricity pulsing through me all day, every day.
Have you tried this? The reviews on the Target site make it sound hit or miss, so I’m not sure if I’m going to take the plunge…but MAN I REALLY WANT TO.
Lemon Cheesecake Cookies
At Connor’s school, they’re doing a holiday cookie exchange for the teachers, and because you don’t have to ask me twice, I volunteered to bake something. I’m going to take a crack at this Lemon Cheesecake recipe from Laura Vitale today…
I know it sounds more like a spring or summer cookie, but I’m thinking that there’ll already be lots of sugar cookies, gingerbread, chocolate and other more traditional holiday options.
Anyway, the recipe calls for a box of instant lemon pudding…and for some reason, this has pretty much BLOWN MY MIND. In all my years, I had no idea that lemon pudding (or, more specifically, boxed lemon pudding) even existed. Did you?? I was so weirded out by it that I bought an extra box, just so I can make it on its own one of these days to see if I like it or loathe it.
Also, have you ever noticed that there’s really only one instant pudding option at the grocery? There’s Jello…and that’s it! They’ve got the boxed instant pudding world on lock. I wonder why that is!
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

I have a stubborn baby hair problem, and sadly the root taming tool didn’t work for me. It’s worth a try though; Target accepted my return with receipt.
Karen says
Hi Eileen,
Interesting. Did you use the product on its own, or did you use it with any root taming products?
Eileen says
I didn’t use any styling products, but I did hold down the baby hairs until they were fully cooled. For about 5 minutes I lived a fluff-free life. My hairdresser has tried to hairspray my baby hairs into submission, and that hasn’t worked either. I accept my fate!
Karen says
Mine are NUTS and I try to go with it but even then I still look like I’m being shocked 24/7, LOL! I dunno… I’m going back to Target in a few, and if it’s still on sale I might go there.

Ohhh, those cookies sound DIVINE!! I love me lemon anything! I agree, there is probably going to be a plethora of holiday style cookies and the lemon is a good idea. I never thought about the Jello thing but you’re right. There really aren’t any others on the market.
Have a good day, Karen!

Oh, and on a side note … my son and his girlfriend saw Creed II and he said it was really good. He thought it was kind of predictable but he said the boxing scenes were very good and he really enjoyed it. Even better than the first one.
Karen says
Oh yeah, there were definitely some predictable moments. But I cried a couple times, not gonna lie. When it’s available for rent you have to see it!
Karen says
Thanks Barb! I’ll let you know how the cookies go. The recipe seems easy enough, which is the main reason why I want to try it. You have a great day too!

Okay so my favorite subject–after cats and my child–is cookies. I have a really great recipe for something called butterballs that uses a box of lemon pudding mix–as well as a half a bag of chopped toffee bits, chopped pecans and a whole lotta powdered sugar or as Queen Mary Berry calls it, “icing sugar.”
Also, I wholeheartedly applaud you for thinking past traditional holiday flavors. I like to have at least one citrus cookie offering during the holidays.
I glanced at those Ess products but I just can’t bring myself to spend that kind of money on hair appliances at Target. Even though my baby hairs are like whoa.
Karen says
Have you seen the latest season of The Great British Baking Show on Netflix?! IT IS CRAY!
Rachel says
I have seen some of her stuff at Target (gift sets from last year on clearance) but 1. I didn’t know who she was and 2. It was kind of expensive. Those cookies sound really good! Yes Jello does seem to have a monopoly on instant pudding but if there’s a store brand or generic available I usually get it cause I’m cheap like that!
Linda Libra Loca says
I love the sound of the cookies, something zesty for Christmas would be very welcome here.

Hmmm, I must admit that I’m tempted. Not so much for myself, but for Mom- she has 3 cowlicks and this one spot that sometimes just randomly sticks straight out from the side of her head for a couple of weeks, then goes back to behaving beautifully. And for some reason, they all got worse when she went fully grey. ? I wonder what is up with that?
Chelsea says
Oooh, let me know how those cookies are! I made Nutella lava cookies for a work thing last week, they were good – my boss liked them!
Karen says
Oh, those sound delicious! Were they gluten free?
Chelsea says
No, but I don’t think it’s be too hard to sub some GF flour! https://www.biggerbolderbaking.com/nutella-lava-cookies/
Michelle Hall says
Oh man I gotta make those cookies!!! And the GBBS is the best!!! Their holiday special is fun too!!
Lexica says
I have three monster cowlicks, so this is very intriguing. ?
