The 10-Minute Makeup Must-Haves series shows off some of *the best* makeup for speedy (but sensational!) skin, eyes, cheeks and lips.
Shake, shake, shake! Dot, dot, dot! Blend, blend, blend!
No, these are not the steps to the latest dance craze ? all the kids are doing. They’re what I do whenever I use Kosas Tinted Face Oil ($42 for a 1-oz. bottle).
I’m into speedy makeup at the moment, and this tinted face oil, which has a thin, somewhat runny consistency, is a minimalist’s dream come true.
Have you ever used MAC Face & Body? It feels just like that. Sorta slippery, sorta “melty.”
I dab a few drops on my face, blend it with fingers, and 30 seconds later — BOOP! — my skin’s fresh and dewy-looking, my pores look smoother, and the pigmented patches on my cheeks, along with the red areas around my nose, have disappeared. My skin looks naturally even and juuust disguised enough — no fake-looking mannequin skin. If you’re into “skin that looks like skin,” you’ll be into it.
At first, Tone 06, the shade I wear, seems too light for my NC42 skin, but it works once I blend it in. (Weird!)
A few things of note:
- Skip silicon-based face primers, because I don’t think they work well with this product (it’ll ball up on top).
- Proceed with caution if your skin’s excessively dry (like mine is immediately after an intense period of retinol). Watch out! — because Tinted Face Oil can emphasize flakes.
- Be mindful of this product’s limited flexibility, since it doesn’t layer well (so you can’t build it up if you’re longing for additional coverage).
If sheer, natural-looking skin is what you seek, that’s what you’ll find with Kosas Tinted Face Oil.
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

Do you remember the NARS Charlotte Gainsbourg Hydrating Glow Tint from about two years ago? If you do, how would this compare to that? The NARS Hydrating Glow Tint was my favorite no makeup look makeup and I didn’t think to grab a back up when it was available.
Erin says
Oh my god that shit is the best. If I had known how much I’d love it I would have stockpiled.
Chelsea says
You look so natural and glowy! I saw this but I know I’ll break out just looking at it!

Omg! I just literally went into Mecca Cosmetica here in Australia (our version of Sephora/Space NK) and tried this “foundation” today. I didn’t end up getting it because I wanted a bit more coverage. I think it’s a great face tint for the weekend/relaxed day in/out. But between your review and Tati’s vlog review, maybe I’ll fold like the proverbial suit and go back to Mecca to buy it!
LindaLibraLoca says
It looks lovely on your skin, but I am not sure I would enjoy the consistency.
Syahidah says
Ok, my thing with this is the no SPF factor. I want SPF in my TMs especially with summer coming around. Gotta protect my face!
Angela says
I saw this on Tati’s channel and it looked like a great light option for summer. It looks great on you!
Jade says
How do you think this would do for slightly oily skin in the summer?
Just bought the wander foundation and hope I love it as much as you do! Love how it looks on you!
Karen says
Hi Jade,
I think it might be tricky. I’ve heard from some oily-skinned friends that it can be touchy with extremely oily skin, but if your skin is only just slightly oily, setting it with a powder could help.
Jade says
I’ve also got my summer primers and my winter primers….andddd I’m a hoarder 😉
Thanks! I’ll maybe hold off until the winter again. Summer is so hard because I’m more tan, more oily and I wear less foundation. Maybe this year I’ll jsut try to get a concealer and try to sheer that out. Any suggestions? I know it doesn’t get quite as gross in the Bay Area as New England as far as humidity but all suggestions are welcome!

Sounds interesting! I have to call you out on renaming blush “all the other bells and whistles”. HAHA! I know, you probably have 10 other products in that last shot but the only difference I can pick out between 2 and 3 is the blush. 🙂
Karen says
Girl you crack me up! I know you’re ride or die with your Tarte but I think you might like this too!
Kim says
It definitely sounds great. The only negative for me is the lack of sunscreen. Maybe I could use a moisturizer with sunscreen instead. I’ll investigate! 🙂
Jenna says
I recommend MyChelle Sun shield liquid tint spf 50 if you enjoy the liquid consistency. I am a fellow mama and it’s so easy to slap on and blend in the morning when I have time for just a few products (99% of the time). Plus it includes sunscreen which saves me a step!
Karen says
Thanks for the recommendation, Jenna! I’m using the Clinique one right now (it has the same consistency) but I’ll look into this one too!

Please help me!
So I saw this a while back and how others raved about it so I picked it up and it’s amazing.p BUT I could never fully get it to work. It still pulled up on me no matter what. I don’t use primers just a skin care regimen and I tried different moisturizers, less product, just a serum, no skincare and bare fresh skin and nothing worked for me. Any suggestions because I really loved the look and feel of it and how it quick it made my routine. My skin is pretty normal. So I don’t know what was up with it, I got it to go on flawlessly like twice and every other time it started out well but once I continued to rub and blend it went south. And I made sure to use no more than 4 drops as recommended and even tried dialing down to 2…. nothing and I want this to work dammit
Also if you like this brand have you tried anything else outside of this foundation and their lippies, which all of them looked killer on you btw! If not highly recommend their color & Light Cream Blush & highlighter duos. Amazing. They’d be a great compliment to a 10 minute routine, if you do decide to check them out I think you’d love tropic equinox that’s more of a bronze shade and 8th muse which is a beautiful cool rose 🙂

Lacy, I can’t make this work either. I feel like EVERYONE raves about it, but it just sits on top of my skin and slides around, and accentuates my pores, no matter how I apply it. I’ve tried fingers, various brushes, and a beautyblender, and it’s just a mess any way I try it. And it feels like a layer of oil just sitting on top of my skin to the point where I’m very aware that it’s there all day and I can’t wait to get it off.
Lacy says
Vee – glad to hear it’s not just me! I’m more into light/minimal & natural make up these days but use to do a full face. Since this was a bust do you have any recommendations or anything you’re loving on right now? Thanks ?
Vee says
I’ve been using the BeautyBlender Bounce foundation because it covers well and feels like nothing on my face. But I’ve been having some texture issues lately and I feel the Bounce kind of accentuates that so I’m thinking about trying something else. I was thinking maybe that new Tarte Foundcealer stuff but I have to drive 30 minutes to Sephora to test colors. I have rosacea so I need to feel like my redness is covered but I HATE when I can feel foundation just sitting on my skin!
Lacy says
I hear ya. There’s finally a mini Sephora in the Jcpenneys at our mall that’s about 20ish minutes away but very limited selection. The big stand alone one is an hour away for me so I usually have to plan a trip!
I have redeness too on both cheeks and I LOVE Dr. Jarts Cica Repair color correcting treatment. It’s ligh green but adjust to your skin tone as you rub it in! I highly recommended trying it! They even have a mini size jar now which is perfect to try it. Sometimes I even wear it by itself it’s that good. And it plays well with my other foundations when I layer
Diane says
I just got mine today from Sephora and I cannot get anything to come out! Is there some trick to it? I’ve tried squeezing it hard and nothing.
