What I wanna know is this: Is there anyone out there who doesn’t fall for this?! Because if you’re out there…TEACH ME YOUR WAYS. I swear, it doesn’t matter how well I plan out my purchases, it seems like I’m always this shy from qualifying for the free shipping threshold, and you know I’m not about to pay an extra 5-10 dolla-dolla-bills-y’all just to get my haul to my doorstep.
Inevitably, I’ll end up with some nonsense I don’t need but would rather spend the equivalent $$ on to snag that free shipping.
What about you?
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

Mm, more Viseart, nice 🙂 we rarely have free shipping in Europe. Only if you spend like $150, and that’s rare (for me at least) 🙂
Diana says
The shipping fee has been up lately so I buy more (duh!) and have my things shipped to a cousin’s house so I won’t have to pay for shipping fee. I pick up the stuff I have ordered on weekends. It’s become a habit her landlord notices.

I pay $10 a year to get the free 2-day shipping at Sephora and then I’ll only buy what I need. But Ulta kills me because they have such a great loyalty program except that you have to pay shipping. So yes, I tend to buy more at Ulta to reach the free shipping amount. It’s fun when the box comes though!
Rachel says
I do this with pretty much every thing I order online. One of my so called tricks then is just to wait until I have enough stuff I actually “need” to order to get free shipping. I used to get emails from ulta when they’d have a free gift with purchase for just a few hours, they are usually pretty good too.

I just pay the $10 for Flash shipping from Sephora, since that’s where I buy most of my online makeup purchases. If I need anything from Ulta, I go to the store since I don’t shop there often. I have discovered that Amazon is selling more makeup that I use, which is cool because we have Prime.

They do it on purpose. Or you can get a sample or some little gift with a $35 purchase when the item you want is $34. It’s done on purpose to make us spend more!
Kate says
I do this all the time! I try my best to purchase stuff I need, but if I don’t have enough, I buy Christmas or bday gifts for sisters or girlfriends. For example, I snagged the Darphin balm at an amazing deal. Didn’t want to pay for the $8 shipping so I ended up buying 5! Itll be a luxurious gift for them for sure but haven’t tried it myself so hopefully I like it!
Oh, one truck I learned is to google discount or promo codes for the retailer to see if there’s a free shipping code or even extra % off.
Eileen says
Never. I have Amazon Prime (free ship), I’m a VIB Rouge (free ship), major department stores where I shop (Nordstrom, Neiman Marcus, and Saks) all have free shipping, and I take advantage of discount offers that include free shipping like those I get from William Sonoma and Pottery Barn.
Cindy says
If I’m a few dollars away from free shipping at Ulta I get something I always use, like the Ulta brand cotton squares. I also look at sale items and sort them by lowest price to highest to see if there’s anything I can use there. Most times though, what I want to buy goes over the free shipping threshold :/. I also wait with my orders to get free gifts, which are usually Wednesdays on Ulta and sometimes Monday nights. Last night I got a nice Lancôme gift. On some Mondays they have gifts for Platinum & Diamond members as well.

Oh, I’m the queen of the add-on. I just did it with Sephora the other day (an extra Cocofloss) to make the free shipping. I actually hate their $10 Flash Shipping program because, since they started it and I don’t have it, it takes at least a week to get my orders. It used to be like 4 days. But I’m in no hurry. 🙂 I’d much rather pay for something I need, or can gift, than pay for nothing but shipping.
Laurie says
Free shipping is the bane of my existence. Amazon Prime and paying $10 to Sephora in order to evade the issue is what I prefer instead. I think I spend so much more than I would because of it, and it’s why I’m always calculating in my head the eBate, the promo code, the online deal … to try and mitigate either overspending to get free shipping or avoid it altogether. It’s a total scam. I hate it. Wow … thanks for helping me get out that frustration.

Sephora, Nordstrom, Saks and Neiman Marcus all have free ground shipping, so I tend to shop there. I never buy anything I don’t need just to get free shipping, because then it’s not free, you’ve spent more money. I calculate if I’m going to spend more on a product or item than I would have if I bought just what I intended plus the shipping. Spending more money does NOT save you any money. I guess Dear Husband has rubbed off on me over the years. For the most part only buy what I need and budget for the occasional want or luxury, but only if I’m going to use it or wear it. His saying is “super expensive on sale is still expensive”.
I try to be honest with myself and ask, “If I don’t buy this item, how much will I miss it?” Truth is, most of the time, I wouldn’t miss it.
Rachel Runyan says
I try to shop where I have “free” shipping (Sephora, Macy’s, Amazon Prime), but if not…you bet I’ll throw in a $4 lipliner or whatever.
Michele DiCola says
I try to curtail my makeup ? shopping but I am always a sucker for more !
There’s an app called Shoprunner which is $10 per year .
Some companies cooperate w them and for $10 you get free shipping .
Chelsea says
I do the $10 a year at Sephora to get free flash shipping all year, well worth it. And Nordies always has free shipping. However, I feel this does happen on the odd occasion I order from Ulta (I prefer in-store) or Beautylish.
Cathy says
If it’s Ulta I will get some eye make-up remover pads, cotton balls, face soap, sometimes shampoo etc..the essentials I always use and will use daily. That way you don’t feel like you are wasting money just to get free shipping because they are items you always use. If it’s other sites that don’t carry the daily essentials, I will wait for free shipping deals or I wait until everything I need adds up to the free shipping threshold because I absolutely just hate to pay for free shipping ?!
Linda Libra Loca says
I always wait until my list is really, really long and then I have more than enough to choose from to reach free shipping.
Deanna says
I hate paying for shipping! If I’m close to the total I need, I add something small I love like lip balm or hair ties. I think I’m going to cancel my Sephora flash shipping since I’m shopping there less and less.
