What’s Your Favorite At-Home Beauty Ritual?

October 9th, 2009 by Karen 50 Comments

100909-favorite-at-home-beauty-ritual

Mine’s — don’t laugh — waxing my ‘stash.

Isn’t there something oddly satisfying about efficient hair removal? Maybe it’s my inner lab technician, but I just love the process. Love warming the wax in the microwave, love applying it and, most of all, love ripping it off!

BAM! — fuzz-free and smoooove.

It’s one of those little things that I’ve always liked to do myself. I also like knowing that I’m saving money, gas and time. My nearest salon isn’t expensive or far away, but it still takes time to get there, and that $8 lip wax goes up with the tip.

Do you have a favorite at-home beauty ritual? Is it deep conditioning your hair, exfoliating your heels on the back porch, or is it your weekly mani/pedi? Don’t be shy! 🙂

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

P.S. Ladies, do you have any movie suggestions for me? I’m thinking about catching a flick tonight. Should I see Zombieland, Couples Retreat or something else?

Does applying makeup count? If not, then exfoliating would be my fave!

We are going to see couples retreat tonight! zombieland was second on our list of choices – we will probably see it next week!

My lang arts teacher recommended Zombieland – she said it was kinda gutsy gorey in the beginning, but then it got SUPER cheesy funny!

Exfoliating is my fave. I can scrub my face with jagged beads and look beautiful! ;D

For me it’s plucking my brows. I get huge satisfaction removing those hairs one by one.

I really want to see Zombieland and might this weekend, it looks hilarious!

I love using my Clarisonic. It cleans my skin really well. I got it 3 weeks ago and it’s so fun.
As far as a movie, I’d say go see Whip It! with Drew Barrymore. As a roller derby player myself, it’s a great movie with a great cast. If you’re not a Drew Barrymore fan, Zombieland was very gross (the zombies were bleeding and pussing from their mouth) but it was actually pretty entertaining. Couples Retreat looks cute but probably not worth the ever increasing price of a movie ticket. Have a great weekend and enjoy the movie you choose! 🙂

Although i’m pretty lazy when it comes to this, doing a good face mask, or facial spa-thingy, is pretty satisfying. I wouldn’t say its my fav, but I love getting the instant results, plus you feel good about yourself and taking care of your skin 🙂

For movies, I want to see Paranormal Activity? Have you seen it? Apparently it got realllllly good reviews, and its kinda like Ghost Hunters, if you’ve ever seen the show. I heard its very scary, so if you like to be scared, check it out!

I like tweezing or doing a mask. Masks are hands-down my favorite thing to do, since they’re so relaxing and usually help to clear up my skin. Btw, what do you use for eyebrow waxing? I really want to try waxing.

Both Zombieland and Whip It have great reviews on Rotten Tomatoes, but I probably would see Whip It. I haven’t seen either so I can’t comment on the content though! The September Issue has been on my list forever and I really want to see it before it’s out of theatres though.

I second the waxing. There is something about ripping it out by the root that is extremely satisfying. Also, weekly Biore pore strips on my nose. Ripping those suckers out, at least the ones that do come out, is also a held weekly ritual.

A 30 minute paper mask for added hydration! My skin just drinks these up. Other times it’s a 10-15 minute clay mask. Combination skin is so hard demanding sometimes!

I love getting rid of body hair! There’s nothing better than going from stubbly/hairy to smoooooove. Also right up there: playing with/applying make-up, painting my nails and dying my hair. As someone who has been dying my hair up to once a month (mostly less) for the past 7 or more years, there is nothing more fun. At this point I’m mostly lazy and trying to grow in healthy hair so I went back to my natural color.

I pretty much enjoy all of them (except dyeing my hair) but I think my favorite would be a DIY manicure. I love painting my nails. I also love to do multiple treatments (hair, face, nails, etc.) at a time and dedicating a whole day to pampering, but those days are few and far between.

i love painting my fingernails and toenails. makes me feel so much more polished when they are freshly painted – something i really should do in the next day or so, haha. and using st ives apricot scrub on my face makes it feel so much cleaner; i do that 2 or 3 times a week in the shower.

i saw zombieland and it was GREAT! the opening credits have some gore but then after it’s not bad at all, and i’m a total wimp. totally recommend it for tonight! 🙂

I’m definitely a fan of using masks for waay longer than they should be used…oh and putting on ridiculous amounts of lotion and then something to cover yourself (like socks w/ lots of lotion on your feet) so you feel extra moisturized.

Also, Karen…what do you use to wax your fem-stache? I really don’t want to pay someone else to do it…because I’m stingy…so I was wondering what brand you use.

Exfoliation for sure! I love that gritty scratchy feeling and seeing all that dirt and dead cells rinse away at my feet. I like combing a real crusty loofa and some granules and then go to town. For some reason it feels so invigorating, ya know? Like that feeling right after you wax of the hair but for an extended time. 😛

Definitely threading my brows & upper lip. I prefer it over tweezing because it can remove multiple hairs at once & it’s not as painful as tweezing.

Hmmmm….OK Karen, you have me curious about self-waxing of the ‘stash. I have some Nad’s in my beauty closet and I think I might hafta bust that out and try it. My upper lip is sorta She-Wolf Aaaoooooooooo! (lollll). I will let you know how it goes!

    Hey Ms. Karen!

Threading isnt hard at all. It takes some practicing to get used to it. But I seriously love it because it removes multiple hairs at once. It still hurts, but I think it hurts less than tweezing.

    I learned from Bubbi on Youtube. Here’s the vid;

Hi there! I’m Karen, your friendly neighborhood beauty addict, and I’m a Bay Area girl who hoards brown eyeshadow and covets coral lipstick. Every morning, I wake up and say, “I’m going to do something other than a smoky eye today.” Then…I end up doing a smoky eye anyway (most days). When I’m not putting on makeup, taking pictures of makeup or writing about makeup, which I’ve been doing daily since 2007 (!), you’ll find me hanging out with my hubby (“El Hub”), my four-year-old daughter (Connor Claire) and my torbie girl cat (Pretty Girl Rosie, a.k.a.
