What’s the Most Unlikely Thing in Your Makeup Bag?

September 17th, 2019 by Karen 19 Comments

hollywood fashion tape essie

Lemme guess… Is it a toothbrush? (They do come in handy for taming flyaways.)

Or a business card? (So convenient for stenciling out crispy cat eye flicks!)

For me, it’s a tossup between the bottle of Essie Gel Couture Top Coat and a small tin of Hollywood Fashion Tape!

I keep the top coat around because I’ve become the person who gets wherever she needs to go a half an hour early these days (to make a long story short, I feel much less anxious, but it goes totally against my nature, LOL!), so I often find myself with time to spare waiting in the car. So, while I’m there, I’ll swipe a little of the top coat at and under the tips of my nails to delay chipping.

Oh, and the Hollywood Fashion Tape is a double-sided tape you can stick on your body or your clothes, like on bra straps or loose hems, to keep things in place.

Can’t even BEGIN to tell you how many times it’s prevented a fashion faux pas!

How about you? What’s the most unlikely thing in your makeup bag?

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

Toss up between tweezers and lip gloss. Tho there may be 3 sparkly glosses and I need plain shine or vice versa….

You can never have enough lipgloss. 🙂

Girl, I keep dental floss in my car. 😂 You just never know when you’ll have a dental emergency!

We always keep some in our vehicles, too. It comes in handy! 🙂

I have a small, battery operated trimmer for getting my upper lip or between my eyebrows. And a small pair of scissors for trimming any stray brow hairs.

Ooh, smart! I keep a pair of tweezers with me but never thought to take the tech to the next level. LOL!

I have these scissors with rounded tips at the end to decrease the chances of poking my eye out when I trim brow hairs. (It almost happened once and yes it was scary!)

      How’s life on your end?

I have tweezers too! I find tweezing in the car is best with natural light. I actually do my makeup in the car fairly often. I carpool with my husband to work so I’ll drop him off and then do my makeup before heading into my building. I am obsessed with brows so I like to keep all my tools with me. 🙂

Oooh, good idea about the rounded scissors!

Life is good right now! Keeping busy with the cats and looking forward to fall. I just picked up this awesome apple cider from my local farmer’s market and I’m hankering for some pumpkin desserts.

Is the weather starting to cool down for you? I’ve heard fall is supposed to be nice the Bay Area.

Do you have a magnifying mirror? That will take your tweezing to the next level.

Yum to the apple cider! You know, I’ve never had apple cider from the farmer’s market before. I bet it tastes super good.

So today I woke up and it was raining outside, but it’s supposed to 75 degrees later on. Fall is BANANAS here. LOL!

Not yet! I’m adding a magnifying mirror to my shopping list. Great idea.

The cider is processed differently than the ones you get at the grocery store. It’s darker and more rich. Sometimes the cider I get at the store is more like apple juice.

It’s currently 80 degrees here so we haven’t quite reached fall weather yet, but I’m still gonna eat my pumpkin desserts and drink cider. I think chili is on the menu for this weekend too. 🙂

Pointed Q-Tips. I frequently do my mascara and lips when I get into work. I always have q-tips on hand to clean up any mascara that gets on my lids.

Just used my last piece of fashion tape today. Need to pick up more.

I love those Q-tips, Barb! They’re very handy, especially for cleaning up the edges of winged liner, or for getting underneath the lash line.

Hope you’re having a wonderful Wednesday so far!

Hollywood Fashion Tape, ever since a saleswoman told me you can use it on the edges and inside the heels of your shoes to help prevent blisters when you’re breaking them in.
It’s really in my purse, since I don’t carry a makeup bag.
Got to run, I’m supposed to be packing for a get away weekend with Dear Daughter. Hope you have a great weekend.

Sunscreen for reapplication but also as a moisturizer for when my under eyes look dry from concealer and powder. Ugh. I still find I can’t do with either be of dark circles, concealer creasing and eyeliner smudging.

Hair elastics for me and my daughter.

Toothbrush. I have a bad commute and my old dental hygienist said brushing your teeth while driving keeps you awake. She’s right!

You have to tell me more about brushing your teeth in the car. How does it work? I mean, is there toothpaste involved? And if so, do you keep a separate cup for spitting the toothpaste in? I’m so intrigued!

I have a quart ziploc of goodies in my purse (which also makes it so much easier at the airport because you can just plop it in the security bin, as is). I have a mini bottle of febreeze, floss and floss threaders, tweezers, a fold-flat French nail clipper, hand sanitizer, lotions, lipsticks/balms/glosses, Badger balm for my cuticles, a couple of roller ball perfumes and probably some other things I’m forgetting. I keep the hair tie in my sunglasses case. 🙂

A lighter! I use it to heat up my lash curler for a few seconds before using…but be careful! I may or may not have burned and eyelid a time or two! :-0 (also can be used for softening eyeliner, old school style!)

About Makeup and Beauty Blog

Welcome to Makeup and Beauty Blog
Hi there! I’m Karen, your friendly neighborhood beauty addict, and I’m a Bay Area girl who hoards brown eyeshadow and covets coral lipstick. Every morning, I wake up and say, “I’m going to do something other than a smoky eye today.” Then…I end up doing a smoky eye anyway (most days). When I’m not putting on makeup, taking pictures of makeup or writing about makeup, which I’ve been doing daily since 2007 (!), you’ll find me hanging out with my hubby (“El Hub”), my four-year-old daughter (Connor Claire) and my torbie girl cat (Pretty Girl Rosie, a.k.a. PGR).
