What Were Your Best and Worst Beauty Experiences of the Week?

January 31st, 2010 by Karen 37 Comments

MY BEST:

Trying Clinique High Lengths Mascara! I forgive it for having a brush that resembles an insectoid alien’s claw, but who cares when it lengthens, holds the curl and makes my lashes look dark and glossy? The more I wear it, the more I fall in love. 🙂

MY WORST:

My two weeks of great skin ended last Friday when these two ill-tempered pimples vandalized my chin. It was like they came out of nowhere, too, all “What’s for dinner, beeyotch!?” And they still hurt like hell! Shoot…

What were your best and worst beauty experiences of the week? Share yours in the comments.

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

P.S. Just a lazy day out here in Marin County, California. I don’t have much to report other than the fact that it didn’t rain a lick today. I can hardly believe it!

I hope your Sunday’s gone well. 🙂 I’m dashing out the door to hit the mall before it closes… Gotta find a new outfit. Wish me luck!

best: re-organizing my makeup stash! I am not totally done but I have made good progress. Once I am finished I think I’ll be able to find everything easier!!!

worst: wow, I got 2 pimples on my chin also! luckily the huge painful one is kinda on the underside of my chin so it’s not super noticeable. still sucks though.

It’s been raining here a bunch too 🙁

Good luck at the mall! Hope you find something cute 🙂

That’s awesome. How did you end up organizing your stash?

The mall was okay. I found some REALLY cute shoes, but not much else! I wanted a dress and maybe a coat or a sweater but nothing moved me enough to want to get it.

well, I have my makeshift ikea vanity and I swapped out the drawers. so I used to have 4 big drawers (antonius?) and now I have 2 sets of 5 smaller drawers (alex!). LOVE the new drawers – they are way better. and then to go in the drawers I got even more little baskets from wally world and now I’m just trying to group all the like products together and such!

sorry your mall trip was sorta a bust 🙁 I just got a pretty dress from american eagle – it’s coral which would probably look amazing with your skintone!

I got the Alex too! I got the nine drawer unit. 🙂 Can’t wait to put it together.

Your new dress sounds pretty. I saw a lot of pretty coral sweaters and tops, and now I can’t wait for spring.

Oh, and I also looked at the Bobbi Brown Cabana Corals collection. It’s SO GOOD. Like, the best BB release I’ve seen in a long, long time. You might have to get a lippie to match your dress, LOL!

Alex is amazing! Although putting together stuff from ikea is not the most fun thing I’ve ever done.

UGH, I can’t wait for spring either. I am so sick of being cold! I wanna be able to wear cute clothes again!

I actually ordered the nectar shimmerbrick online last night! I don’t think I have any shimmery coral blushes… I can’t wait until it arrives! I might need to find a good coral lippie now…

Best: getting the limited edition Kat Von D palette I had my eye on.

Worst: spending too much on the KVD palette…and discovering that L’Oreal’s HIP shadows are duds!

Some people really love those HIP shadows… I have a few and like ’em, but my heart will always beat for MAC a little faster, LOL!

Did you bust into your palette yet?

Best: Tried lilac colored blush. It was so so so pretty! I have fir skine, and it look suprisingly nautural. 😛

Worst: I spained my ankle! I’m a klutz! Now I get to go to the semi-formal saturday on crutches. Toormoe is 80’s day, I’m thinking of throwing a leg warmer over my boot haha.

You’d be totally authentic if you rocked your leg warmers like that. That’s how I rolled back in the day, LOL!

What’s the name of your blush? It sounds pretty.

Best: I followed a tip in one of the comments section about mixing a coat (or two) of volumizing mascara and a coat (or two) of lengthening mascara. Hello falsies….ina good way.

Worst: Toss up between the massive facial peel from a change in Retin A or the DiorShow Extase Mascara. The Extase clumps horribly and isn’t worth the cost. My face is on fire when anything touches it but that will go away in a week or two.

Best: tried out some goodies from Dior and bought the 743 Coquette palette from the Dentelle collection.

Worst: 2 pimples on the chimmy chin chin and 2 on the forehead because it is that time of the month.

I like the Coquette quint so far because i am into more matte/satin subtle shades for my eyes these days with a bolder lip, but I am also pondering the other Dentelle quint from the collection. The lacy rosy highlighter is mighty tempting too.

Best: Rockin’ the creamy, hot pink lipgloss in honor of a little springy weather!

Worst: One of those super-deep zits that’s taking weeks to clear… right between the eyebrows!

    Good luck! 🙂

Actually, my week was filled with all good experiences! Yay!

Best: my friend and I spontaneously went to Ala Moana and visited the makeup addicts’ Mecca (Sephora)… and Smashbox’s celebrity artist, Hank Hoffman was there! OMG, I DIE!

Also made a bunch of makeup orders online because mai burfday’s coming up and they’re all throwing in free gifts, and it makes me go wheeeeee!

    I’m excited, can you tell?

Hope you have a good week!

Best: I was playing with some old Mac shadows and discovered a shimmery, flirty purple. And i have had trouble with the purple crease color, so i used a mac brush from a kit i didnt use and it and it worked perfeectly!!!

WORSE: I wore my pretty purple eyemakeup look, then started playing around with eyeliners. I took a shower, and NOTHING WOULD COME OFF! I swear I scrubbed for hours! Ouch :((

Oh no! Do you have a dedicated eye makeup remover? Lancome’s Bi-Facil is great. It’s pricey but takes off everything. Bliss’ and Clinique’s are good too.

Best: Picked up Smoke & Diamonds and Poison Pen at CCO. Love them both.

Worst: More snow yesterday. How is that a beauty issue? Well, we had 60 degree weather earlier in the week. Now frigid temps and snow. My skin is about to peel off. I’m so over winter.

Best: I bought three Calvin Klein eyeshadows on sale at Sephora and I really like them ^_^

Worst: About 10 eyelashes fell out of my left eye after I wore my (really really old) Diorshow Blackout Mascara… so now I have a weird bald spot in my eyelashes D:

In order to make the good in this senario make sense, I’ve got to start off with the bad news:
I’ve recently had a moderate acne breakout, and it’s taking forever to heal. To top things off, my skin has been getting way dried out due to the acne products, below-freezing temps outside, and blasting heat indoors. So I’ve got acne and expression lines…

The good news: In spite of everything, on Thursday and Friday I did full makeup. In the end only one blemish was slightly visible. l looked Amazing! Thank goodness for concealer, foundation and pressed powder! On Saturday, I found this blog which is pretty awesome too!

My Best: Finally I found 2 products that can stop my oiliness, The Oil Absorbing Lotion and Tonic Absorbing Lotion from La Mer. They are the best I’ve tried so far. 🙂
My Worst: This past week was very very cold here ( -35 degrees celsius) we didn’t had this temperatures since 1984 so…..you can imagine that my skin needed more hydration 🙂

BEST – new hairstyle! clipping bangs out of face and to the right and relaxing my curls is nice for during the day. also ive found that if i dont want to open my Barbie Love Stila smudge pot to line my eyes the MAC greasepaint stick in black (style black collection is when it most recently came out) is a great dupe! same violet black with pink sparkles…. i just twist up the greasepaint stick and drag 266 across it…. it doesnt budge all day.

WORST- probably that after a week of using gradual tan there was a small patch of orange on my knees… :$

Grr, I don’t think I’ve had a best this past week! Of course, I’ve been a total slob on my days off, so that could be why. My worst is that my skin is going crazy. I have zits in places I don’t usually have issues, like my neck! It’s driving my crazy. I think it’s hormonal, but I’m not sure.

    Oh! I have a high/low this week!

My best would be that my skin is calming down again (I also figured out I might just have monthly breakouts, if you catch my drift…) And I bought a Borghese face mask, which helped A LOT.

My worst is not beauty, but still… I went to visit friends in my hometown for one night, which turned into the entire weekend, and I had to leave my normal shoes to get resoled (apparently, I’m not gentle with boots), so with my normal, almost all black work outfit, I have fuzzy moccasins/slippers, since that’s all I had at home. So I basically look like I forgot to change my shoes before going to work…

Best would be growing into the new haircut I had a few weeks ago. I love my hair even more now.

Worst would be 2 pimples on my chin (yep my chin too) …. I think it was a reaction from all the meds I took when I was sick. Im trying my best not to fiddle with them ….

I love my Kuala Lumpur duo, I just need to get a handle on the glitter fallout because I’m getting flashbacks of the Hula Hula duo that I hardly wear. I am contemplating taking back the Kat Von D duo I also bought (SALE!!!) because it’s not wowing as much I hoped. I know it was only $10 but that’s $10 that can go to diaper/milk money!!

Worst: I tried to make my hair look beautiful and wavy and it didn’t come out right at all! Oh, and my CHI has a short in it so it wouldn’t stay on for about 5 seconds until it turned off.

Best: I got some great samples from Sephora and got Time Balm concealer for $4.99 at Dillards. $4.99!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Then, my husband took apart my CHI and was able to fix it so it works good as new!!

    Hi Karen! Happy Monday

My worst beauty experience last week was dumping my entire home waxing kit on the ground while it was on!

My best beauty experience last week was that i laid a towel UNDER my home waxing kit before I spilled and ruined it. Yea! I had to toss it out BUT my carpets are wax free. Thank heavens!

My best beauty experience of the week was getting my hair dyed lighter. It’s been black for 3 years, so I decided some caramel and blonde highlights would be pretty. I actually really like it, it turned out well despite how scared I was.

My worst beauty experience of the week has been my pale skin. I haven’t had time to pick up self-tanner so I’m losing my fake color. 🙂 I’ll pick some up tomorrow after my Anthropology class.
