All this talk about under-eye concealer, and about forgoing it lately, has me thinking about the kinds of makeup that people *don’t* wear. Incidentally, I’m actually surprised to hear that so many of you gals (and guys) forgo under-eye concealer! I’m really shocked. I thought I’d be in the minority, but I don’t think I am.
Anyway, I’m scrolling through my makeup mental list, and here’s what I’ve got…
- Powder lipstick. I realize that this is rare, but NARS released a palette of them in the Erdem collection, and even though it was kitschy cool, the lazy lady in me was NOT having it.
- Gel liner… I KNOW. This too has been a relatively recent development, and my MAC Blacktrack is very sad about it. 🙁 These days, I do either pencil liner or liquid liner because it’s faster for me, and I don’t have to use an extra brush. I can see myself going back to Blacktrack eventually, though…
- Liquid blush — specifically Benefit Benetint (or really any of the liquid tints from Benefit). Loved them in my 20s, but I rarely wear them now.
- False lashes. The time they take, and I don’t do enough often enough to justify the extra glam.
- Loose pigments. Just sooo messy.
- Any and all forms of contouring products. Nope, not for me.
That’s all I can think of at the moment…
How about you? What are some categories and kinds of makeup you never, ever wear?
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

I never use concealer, liquid or cream blush, liquid or cream highlighter, and false lashes. I just can’t be bothered. I have oily skin and liquid or cream products move around on my face too much for my liking. I also really dislike the feeling of fals lashes. They make my eyes feel heavy and they are not worth the struggle to get them on.
Mary B says
No false lashes, no eyeliner (but I do use a darker shadow to define my outer corners), no liquid blushes or contouring of any kind.
Isabella says
contour
only for young
who paradoxically don’t need it
Yelena Rivera says
things I NEVER wear:
1. false lashes
2. lip plumpers, lip fillers, anything that will make my lips look bigger. cuz I already think they are too big lol
3. liquid/cream blush
4. liquid/cream eyeshadow
5. primer. I rarely wear foundation but when I do, i never use primer underneath it. I just go for my moisturizer and sometimes when i have extra time, I’ll spray some mac fix + but that’s it. no primer for me.
LindaLibraLoca says
All of the above, with the exception of gel liner. I still wear that.
Kate says
Contour, self-tanner, false eyelashes.
Rachel says
Cream blush. I only wear powder blush because I’m worried the cream will come out too concentrated. Plus I always finish my makeup with an all over powder, so I don’t know when to apply the cream blush.
Christina says
False lashes. I don’t know how to, even though I have a few packs at home. LOL
Chelsea says
Honestly I’ve been wearing no powder products lately! That’s not a Never thing but I always use cream or liquid blush and highlighter. I never wear contour, gel liner, bronzer (might make an exception for my show this weekend), I’ve never tried a powder lip, and I try to do falsies sometimes but they are so much effort, so I end up giving up.
Kim says
You know there’s not enough room in the comments for what I NEVER wear. 🙂 Powder foundation (or actually any proper foundation) and liquid, cream or gel anything else (except lipstick/gloss and the occasional shadow).
Swoozy says
I never do concealer, although I bought a tube from Tarte to try because my eyes look sad. Most of my never does have to do with my lack of skill or a lifestyle that can’t do it: no false lashes, no contouring, no lip balms/colors in pots, no liquid eye liners, no lipliner ever. I make up for it with a lifetime supply of nude lipstick purchases.
Claire says
i can’t skip on concealer for sure! i never use liquid blushes and gel liners are also not a big thing for me. also glitter is not something i reach for a lot.

I’ve sorta given up foundation. It’s become such a chore now and there are too many options and I feel like it’s not worth my time to find the perfect match. And I hate the time it takes putting on. my skin isn’t perfect but I’m comfortable in it and I don’t think people notice or really care so why bother. But that’s just me and that might change in a week! ?
I’ve never even heard of powder lipstick! My inner lipstick lover is intrigued.
Jane says
I thought I sent in my list earlier, but I guess I lost it. Anyway, I never use liquid lipstick, countour or highlighting products, false eyelashes, liquid liner, glitter shadow and liquid blush. I have stopped using conceler under my eye area, but use a corrector in the corner of my eyes to control the dark shadows. I find concealers never last and don’t really conceal well on my dry, deep-set eye area. I also have been skipping blush lately and use my bronzing powder. I sometimes get redness around my nose and cheek area and find blush adds to the redness. I also have stopped using liner regularly, although I do like to tightline now and then.
Be well!
Jennifer Osborn says
No contouring. I’m just too fair and it looks ridiculous.
Also rarely every mascara. If I have a big date and I’m really gilding the lily, I’ll curl my lashes and put it on but my eyes are terribly sensitive and moist so it usually ends up on my face.
kellly says
False lashes, bronzer, lip liner, foundation, eyeliner, or CONTOURING (ever. I have my own cheekbones, thank you very much).
Tatiana says
I never wear false lashes (have some, haven’t mastered application yet), under eye concealer, primer, highlight, contour, liquid blush, lip plumping products, glitter eye shadows, anything with a strong, flowery or perfume scent to it (which eliminates a lot of brands right there).Lately, I’ve been skipping foundation, so that will probably be the next thing to go.
Eileen says
No, not ever: Contour (I’ve got good bone structure), bronzer (during summer I wear a warmer toned blusher and that’s enough to give my look some sunshine), false eyelashes (I got my fill of wearing them back in the 1960’s), matte anything (I’m in my seventies and need a bit of glow). Makeup gimmicks like the powdered lipstick, vibrating mascara wands, etc. also never rate my interest much less a purchase.
Stephanie Smith says
Full coverage foundation. I just don’t understand it. It makes everything the same color and it hides all the perfection of a face. False lashes. Never worn them, the idea of them freaks me out. Contour, it’s too many steps for me. Liquid liner, I’m a spaz, I can’t figure it out. Practice makes perfect and I’m too spazzy to practice! Lol!
Suzanne C says
False lashes, contouring, lip gloss (so sticky, yuck!), overly glittery makeup, or concealer. I seldom wear mascara, but only because of allergy-related eye watering issues.
Michele DiCola says
NO CONTOUR !
Who invented that ?
Some matte lipsticks are too dry but I’ve noticed creamy and shimmery is making a comeback .
I’m ok w some loose pigments if I use a shadow base first .
Self tanner ! When they invent one that doesn’t streak !
No powder lipstick ?
Max says
I never wear foundation & contour. I love the look of natural skin.
Janet Shepherd says
I never wear full coverage foundation, I never got on with gel liner lol. I also never do false lashes, contour or bronzer (I’m too pale) 😀
Karen says
Hi Janet!
How are you and little Sally? Is she walking yet?
Rachel Runyan says
I never wear creamy eye primers that don’t dry down, dewy foundation, cream contour, liquid blush, lip stains, powder lipstick, false eyelashes, cream eyeshadows (except ColourPop Super Shock Shadows), shimmery or orange-toned bronzer, self-tanner, or spray-on tans.
I rarely use under-eye concealer (only if I have dark circles from not sleeping), bronzer (When I do, it’s matte and never over my entire face.), cream blush, cream highlighters, liquid highlighters, or colourless lip gloss.
Janet Shepherd says
Oh she sure is! A few days ago we had her first trip to the supermarket where she walked around with me instead of sitting in the trolley. I deliberately made it a super short trip, just bought 2 things but she had a blast.
Jan says
False eyelashes, liquid eyeliner, light coverage foundation, liquid blush, self tanner, bright lipsticks or lipsticks in colors other than red, pink or orange shadesJ
Rebecca says
Brow pomade.
Miki Nyckel says
Cream blushes. Just don’t use ’em. I like cream blushes though. But I guess it’s just because I put powder bronzer on regularly, so it’s a bit tough to put a cream on top!
Though I DO use my benetints on occasion. Those are a go-to for me when on vacation! Just for a fresh, summery, ‘I’m on vacation and glowing’ look. ? And I have recently given up on foundation. I had dark circles under my eyes and a bit of rosacea so I’m still stuck with my concealer LOL.
Susan C. says
What I never use:
Self-tanner
Plumping or tingling anything. (You can feel the skin damage happening, yo!)
Press-on or fake nails
Hair extensions
False eyelashes
Glitter anything
What I rarely use:
Primer of any sort — I own plenty, but am habitually in too much of a rush to bother
Liquid highlighter
Extremely matte lipsticks–too drying
Liquid blush – I have NARS liquid blush but rarely use it. There’s a lot of potential for error; I have chubby cheeks and very pale skin. Last time I used it, I thought my look was on point. Later that day I checked the mirror and blush was apparent from the top of my cheekbones almost down to my jawline. Oops!
breyerchic04 says
I never use anything mattifying. That includes almost all powders, primers that aren’t illuminating or moisturizing, and liquid lipsticks. I very rarely wear liquid or gel eyeliner either. I do use cream and liquid blushes (my favorites being the glossier cloud paints), pencil eyeliners, liquid foundation, cream eyeshadows, and matte or cream lipsticks in bullets with lots of illuminating moisturizer first.
Beverly says
I never use false lashes or contouring of any kind. I only use eyeshadows with glitter occasionally.
Denise says
I never wear orange toned eyeshadows (yes, I know–it seems like almost every shadow palette out there is warm toned), liquid blush,or powder lipstick.
