Right now, nothing makeup-wise really scares me, and I’ll try any color — lip, cheek, eyeshadow, whatever. I’ll try it at least once… Black lipstick, red eyeshadow, you name it, I’ll give it a go, but I do have to say that red eyeshadow was absolutely terrifying when I first started using it. There were many, many failed attempts, and more than once I ended up looking like a I had been crying for weeks! It took me a while to figure out a few tricks to make it work (layering it with a bronze liner, or wearing a black pencil on the waterline really helps).
Now I’m more comfortable with it and feel like I can kinda-sorta pull it off.
That said, is red eyeshadow my first choice for colorful eyes? No. It is not. Gimme a jeweled purple or blue any day! But I do at least feel like I kinda-sorta know what to do with red.
How about you? What makeup colors currently scare (or used to scare) the living crap out of you?
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen
Your eye look is beautiful – you should do the red more often! Thank you for sharing tricks as I am looking for ways to wear red and orange eyeshadows and these will really help.
Thanks, Vita! You can always ask me if you have any questions about wearing those colors. I’ve figured out a few things along the way and am at the point where I feel pretty comfortable in them. They can be very flattering, I think!
I agree about the red and dark pink shadows, they can be hard to pull off. But it looks really good on you!
Thanks, Rachel! Happy Thursday to you. How are things on your end?
Same old, same old! But thanks for asking!
Sometimes having a regular ol’ day is a GREAT thing. Seriously! 🙂
It’s dinnertime here and I find myself once again wishing that I had a personal chef. LOL!
Oh wouldn’t that be nice! I always think those HelloFresh and meal delivery services would be fun too, but they’re kind of expensive!
I love this look!
Thank you, Ewa!
The late 90s’ frosted purple eyeshadow. Still was AND still is the shade im scared to!
Karen, you always look great in whatever colour you wear – I swear you suit everything.
Colour used to scare me completely, if it wasn’t a black liner or lipstick I didn’t wear it, then I discovered purples and reds – I do still love both of those but for me blue eyeshadow terrifies me (I have pale skin, turquoise eyes and red hair so it is not the easiest colour to pull off on my face) and I have yet to venture too far into lighter green shades, aside from that neutral browns really scare me as it’s so easy to look bruised or tired as opposed to sophisticated and pulled together.
I used to be scared of blue, just depends on the shade (eyeshadow) still scared of blue, green, black lipstick. But not any sheer gloss in those shades. Also fuschia, but that’s more dislike than fear. Necromancy Cosmetica has a mustard yellow lipstick I’m scared of but sooo interested in. They have a cat rescue too! And, I just got a new cattoo yesterday so I’m all excited today!
It has been awhile since I commented. As I have gotten older, my habits haven’t changed at all. I still cannot do red eyeshadow (makes my deep-set eyes even more tired looking.) I don’t do very pale or very dark, almost black lip color either.
So, Connor has gotten go big. I love the long hair. Things have been ok out east. Zack has been home the last two semesters and is hoping to go back in January. He has a girlfriend now and I can’t believe that in 3 months he will be turning 20. No longer a teenager.
Be well and stay safe.
It’s great to see you, Jane! I hope you and your beautiful family are doing well, despite the circumstances. How has it been to have Zack home again?
Dark Lipstick!
Black, Blue, Green and unfortunately most dark berrys etc… because I am very fair with light green eyes and light bown hair. The contrast is too much and it makes me even paler and I feel looking sick.
I love when you do reds. They’re my fave. 🙂 And this look is beautiful on you, btw. I’m living vicariously through you with the eyeshadows. HAHA!
