The Lust List, Vol. 9: Stuff I Kinda Want

May 16th, 2017 by Karen 24 Comments

Moar, she said. MOOOOAR!

Me: Karen, you should stop cruising the interwebz, because whenever you do it, you always end up with even moar lemmings.

Also Me: Karen, you shouldn’t stop cruising the interwebz, because whenever you do it, you always end up with even moar lemmings.

Do you see the problem here? Ah, the eternal conflict…

Sometimes I like to pretend that it makes a difference when the things I’m lusting after are things I know I would use all the time, like…

  1. Sephora Collection Colorful Shadow & Liner ($14 each) — The purple pencil I picked up last week was my gateway pencil into this line of cream stick shadows/eyeliners. I didn’t even realize there mattes until I got back home and looked them up on the Sephora website. Of course, now I want all the browns, as well as electric blue My Boyfriend’s Jeans, because it’s hard to find electric blue shadows/liners that are matte. Have you ever noticed that?
  2. Bumble & Bumble Sunday Shampoo ($25) — I want to be a rebel and use this on a Saturday! ? I had an ill-fated run-in with a Klorane shampoo and conditioner for dry hair last week, and now my hair feels heavy…like it has 10 years of product built up in it. A friend recommended this clarifying shampoo, and I’m definitely gonna get it because I need something to get all of this stuff outta my hair. Plus, I read recently that clarifying shampoos can help with color-treated hair by removing excess product, so your hair color doesn’t look dull. I don’t know if that’s true, but I’m hoping it is?
  3. Pretty Vulgar Bird’s Nest Blurring Beauty Mousse Foundation ($44) — Gimme anything that with the word “blurring” in the name. The mousse part sounds cool, too. Lightweight!
  4. Drunk Elephant Umbra Tinte Physical Daily Defense Broad Spectrum Sunscreen SPF 30 ($36) — I’ve been using a few Drunk Elephant products for about month now, and I really like them a lot. This is their new tinted sunscreen, and I’m intrigued.
  5. Brooks Ravenna 8 ($110) — I think I’ve finally mostly recovered from the cold/cough from Hades I had. Dang, that thing lingered. I’m ready to get back into running again, and these colors remind me of Skittles.
  6. Athleta Ready Set Go 2 in 1 Short ($59) — It was HOT here in Novato a couple weeks ago, and I noticed one night at the gym where I go to my HIIT class that they have really crappy air conditioning. I was miserably hot in my Zella capris, which usually keep me cool, so I’m looking for some new workout shorts, but I don’t want to be wearing tight shorts, you know what I mean? And I don’t want shorts that are so loose that they go flapping in the wind and let everyone see my butt cheeks while I’m doing burpies. These shorts from Athleta look perfect! There’s a tighter base layer with looser shorts on top, so the boo-tay isn’t on display for all the world to see. I just wish they weren’t so expensive.
  7. May Coop Raw Sauce ($43) — My friend has dry skin (hey, Marisol!) and totally recommends this. Not that I need to throw another product up into my skin care mix, but it’s been windy here lately, and the wind sucks all of the moisture outta my face, especially my cheeks.
  8. Lancôme Matte Shaker Liquid Lipstick ($22) —
Breyerchic mentioned these Matte Shaker Liquid Lipsticks in the comments on a post and said that I NEED one in my life… This orange coral one is calling to me.
  9. Urban Decay Naked Skin Shapeshifter ($45) — Urban Decay recently released these powder/cream contouring/highlighting blush palettes a while ago, and even though I’m not a contouring person (she says for the millionth time), I wanna try them, mostly because I think the packaging looks cool.

Have you been wanting anything lately? Wait — let me rephrase that. 🙂 What have you been wanting lately?

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

These shorts are the same concept as the Athleta, for less than half the price! I haven’t tried their shorts, but I love their Ellie leggings.
Also, I’m definitely lusting after that tinted sunscreen. It’s on my must try list.

      Hi Abbey,

Oh, thanks! I love the prices, and the clothes are really cute. So tell me more about the leggings. How’s the material? Is it on the thicker or thinner side?

Sorry, I’m just seeing this! The material is good–thicker than, say, Old Navy, but not so thick they’re super sweaty. The leggings are opaque and completely squat proof, and my iPhone 6 Plus fits in the pocket securely. They’ve also washed really well so far. I’m a big fan.

I’m also interested in the Drunk Elephant Tinted Sunscreen. I’ve been eyeing their eye cream as well. LOVE DE! The Kate Somerville SPF 50 Soft Focus Setting Spray is another item on the list.

As for non-cosmetic items … I’m swooning over the Adidas Gazelle sneakers in light pink suede with white stripes!

I’m so excited to be called out on your lust list!

I’m being pretty good about shopping right now, but i definitely don’t own any athletic shoes and want a cute pair for this summer.

I wanz one of the matte shakers and the Sunday Shampoo. Usually I go for sulphate free shampoos on a regular basis, but every now and again I need some extra cleansing. Oh, and I want more time to browse the internet that I can make these lists for myself…

Hmm, for me, of course there will be some stuff from Chanel. Like…..how could there not be? 😉 Probably their Gel Top Coat, which turned out to be unexpectedly good in a shop where an SA offered to apply some on me, over my own color. I let her, secretly thinking there is *no way* now that I won’t ruin them before they dry… Being outside and all that. To my utter shock, they dried in no time, and looked more shiny and smooth than they ever had before! So clearly, it went on my list. 🙂

On the same occasion, tried a Chanel Soleil Tan jar. I had never tested it before because from a distance, I thought it looked kinda… gross, and expected it to be really messy and gloopy. Again… shocked to see it was actually more like a thin, ‘dry serum’ when spread over the skin, if that makes sense. I don’t even use bronzing products (except powder, on the face), but I somehow really, really want this. Makes me think of sunny distant islands, with a perfumed breeze in the air. 🙂

Also on the list – the TF Sheer Cheek Duo in Paradise Lust. Been eying this for ages and can’t bring myself to get it. So expensive… but so lovely. 🙁

Just like another item on the list – a pair of Thomas Sabo ‘Rebel at heart’ talon earrings. But these are the least likely to actually happen – insanely expensive. But sooo badass tho… Can totally see myself going somewhere with them on, only to cause shock and distress. Haha!!

How funny! I’ve been thinking about that Gel Top Coat! I’m testing a Chanel polish right now with a regular top and base coat and am wondering if using the special Chanel one makes a difference. Of course, this could be me also needing an excuse to visit the counter. 🙂

I used the Soleil Tan back in the day and remember liking how the cream looked on skin.

…I’ve kinda given up on having any particular excuse to visit their counter. 😛 If you get it, would be super curious to know what you think about it.

This is so interesting, your list contains several of the items on my own list 🙂 Great minds, I say. I really want the Drunk Elephant sunscreen, I hope it’s like a lightweight BB cream. The UD palette is also calling my name. Your Bumble & Bumble shampoo though made me think of something. My hairdresser recently told me that aerosol dry shampoos actually damage your color, so I moved to B&B’s shaker-style dry shampoo. I LOVE IT! And it doesn’t give me that layer of build-up. I’m wary of clarifying shampoos on color, because they actually strip a lot of the color out (at least in my experience). If I need a good washing, I do two intense scrubs with my regular shampoo, but I also have dry hair.

      Hi A,

Ahh, I wish I liked those shaker style shampoos! I’ve tried two of them and didn’t like either (too messy for me). Is the Bumble one easy to apply? And what’s the scent like? The two that I tried (Oscar Blandi and Aveda) for some reason smelled funky…

      Anywho, happy Wednesday!

Hi Karen! I only have a couple of lemmings. Nars Liquid Blush in Luster and Le Labo Lys 41 perfume. Otherwise, I am on a no buy. Big thumbs up for the May Coop Raw Sauce. It really does make your skincare perform better. I was skeptical of it, and bought a trial size and so glad I did. I noticed my skin was glowing the next day and it was very hydrated and I have dry skin.
Also, if you are looking for a good clarifying shampoo. I would highly recommend Color Proof’s Clear It Up Detox Shampoo. It is the best clarifying shampoo I tried. It doesn’t strip your hair and it doesn’t dry it out. I have really thick dry curly hair and also love their Super Rich Moisture Shampoo and Conditioner. Their products can be found at Planet Beauty and Beauty Collection stores. I am not affiliated in any way. I also love their True Curl and Smoothing lines.
For workout wear, I would just recommend Old Navy’s. It is inexpensive and it holds up really well. I am a gym rat who works out 6 days a week. They have some cute work out clothes in store.

Hey Karen! I really like the May Coop Raw Sauce. I have dry skin and applied it last night and I woke up with hydrated glowing JLo skin. It really makes your skincare products you apply afterwards perform better.
I am just lemming Nars liquid blush in Luster and Le Labo Lys 41 perfume. I discovered a Le Labo counter at Nordstrom’s and now I am hooked.
I also would highly recommend Color Proof Set it Free Detox Shampoo. It is a clarifying shampoo that doesn’t strip your hair and it doesn’t dry it out. I have really thick super dry curly hair and love all of the products I’ve tried from this line. The super rich moisture S&C and Tru Curl S&C are my favorites from this manufacturer, their smoothing shampoo and conditioner is good, too.

Alllllll the things! I have Sephora or Ulta up in my browser like I have my email open #thesickness lol!!!! I want to try the May Coop Raw Sauce and a bunch of other skin care things. I’m also on the hunt for some new tennis shoes but I need to get moving around again. Too much sitting. Stupid desk job and long commute *shakes fist*. I’ve also been eyeing the URBAN DECAY Jean-Michel Basquiat Collection.

I hated the Raw Sauce. It dehydrated my skin terribly. It’s got alcohol as the second ingredient. It also gave me like hives 🙁

I’m going to try using it on my hands and feet, just so it gets used. I may see if my husband can use it.

That May Coop Raw Sauce smells like perfume. It is really strong. If you’re OK with that then cool. But if you can you may want to check it out first. Have a great day! Enjoyed your posts as usual!

I’ve had bad experiences with Klorane too. Sad, because the smells are amazing and the bottles just look so chic.

Now I’m curious about the Drunk Elephant sunscreen and the May Coop Raw Sauce. You’ll have to let us know how you like them. I’ve never used B&B Sunday Shampoo, but for moisturizing I sure do like their Hairdresser’s Invisible Oil Shampoo. I have super fine and thin hair and this cleans without drying out my hair and without weighing it down into a limp nothingness.
I’m wanting jeans that fit my butt, and workout shorts that aren’t too loose and aren’t too tight, but just right.

Ah girl!!!! I cut UP my credit cards!!!! However I have since discovered that I WANT Gypsy Water!!! I know that you are an avid fan. I just stumbled upon it’s description a day or so ago… and wowza… I’m IN LOVE. It will not happen… but I think (or at least) I’ve been told that one of Tocca’s fragrance’s is similar. I can’t spell it!!! (the shame)… I’ve been long labeled a shopping addict – to which I quickly say – but you should see my internet friends collections…. alas, it does me no good.

Love your lists, wish I were anywhere near your lusting ability! May the force continue to be with you!!!!

    Grace and Peace!!!

I just finished my second bottle of the Raw Sauce, its great! Adds just a little hit of extra moisture.

I’ve been lusting after the Chanel cream bronzer for like two years, so I think that I’ll have to finally bite the bullet and do it!

If you end up trying the matte shakers, let us know what the pigment is like! I’ve been really interested in matte sheer stains lately but I’m not sure how opaque these are.

I’m really nervous about your clarifying shampoo use! My hair stylist, who’s been in the biz for something like 20 years and loves her color, told me clarifying shampoos strip color, too, and she wouldn’t let me touch clarifying shampoo while she’s coloring my hair (she loves color, so she’ll keep coloring my hair).
