Sundays with Tabs the Cat, Makeup and Beauty Blog Mascot, Vol. 65

December 6th, 2009 by Karen 24 Comments

When I was a little girl, I always looked forward to the animated Christmas specials they showed on TV every year. It seems like there aren’t as many of them as there used to be, cartoons like A Charlie Brown Christmas and Rudolph, the Red-Nosed Reindeer…

That reminds me — things have been slowing down lately for Tabs with his modeling career, and he’s had to resort to doing voice work for holiday specials like this one (click here to see the video).

I hope you’re having a wonderful weekend, ladies. Tabs says hi (actually, he’s napping on the couch right now). 🙂

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

P.S. Do you have a favorite holiday special? It’s that time of year!

I don’t really have a holiday special I like to watch because I always thought they are kind of boring. But I do have special holiday activities: I like walking and shopping Downtown as it snows, but it would have to light snow though or else I would be snowed in. When my brother and I were little, we like to “camp.” underneath our christmas tree in our living room. We would turn off all the lights and set up camp by the tree. Since we don’t have camping gear, we would tape a piece of string across the living room and put a sheet over it as a tent.

I still get really excited to see those old claymation ones like Frosty the Snowman and Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer. Also a huge Grinch fan 🙂

Hey! I love reading your blog, you’re hilarious and do a great job of reviewing products!
This is kind of random, but did you know Benefit has a new boxed powder out? It’s called Sugarbomb and it looks kinda funky, there are like four colors in it– rose, pink, plum and peach. I’m not sure how you’re supposed to use it and would love a review if you ever get around to purchasing it!
Also I know you’ve talked about MAC’s Gentle Coral LIp Conditioner a couple of times. I’m looking into buying it and would love a review and swatches!
    Thanks!!

This is so cute! I love the music as well – a cool twist to a classic song. I’m not big on Christmas songs (before you gasp, let me explain!) because where I live, department stores start playing Christmas music immediately after Thanksgiving, so by the time it’s Christmas, my sing-songy spirit has been depleted and the songs have gotten annoying. 🙂 Maybe I just need more holiday spirit!

Just curious, how did you learn graphic and video making? All the MBB graphics are so well-done! I’m considering taking a class at school, but my schedule’s packed as it is so I’m looking for alternative methods.

That was cute! Tabs has a cute meow.

Zena somehow found out my password and hearted a particular item on Etsy that she wants along with flinging Mr. Chicken and certain other toys to show what she wanted new ones of. Me thinks I need to change my passwords…

My favorite Christmas special is, of course, watching Chuck Jones’ animated version of Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas. It’s the family favorite. We watch it every. single. year. We watch The Grinch too. My dad even has a Grinch tie! My mom used to have Grinch Slippers but Kimo destroyed and killed them.

My all time favorite Christmas special (it isn’t Christmas season until I have seen it, in fact) is A Charlie Brown Christmas. What’s kinda strange about it is that my family is not at all religious, and there’s definitely a huge religious theme throughout the show. Still, I love it. One year I missed seeing it on TV and went out and bought the DVD. It’s THAT important to me!

I bought that as well in a set with the Halloween and Thanksgiving Charlie Brown specials. My stepsons thought they were pretty lame until I made them watch them with me, and now they like them, too!

Karen, I know how you feel, I’m 41 and was raised on Rankin & Bass Christmas specials. I have an extensive Christmas dvd collection with all the old favorites. I’ve been watching them since November 1st ! Merry Christmas to you and your hubby, a.k.a. Santa !!!!!!! Tabs, you be a good boy for Santa and I’m sure he’ll bring you lots of yummies !

    LOLZ! That was awesome!

My fave (and Hubby’s too) is The Year Without a Santa Claus, because Heat Miser and Cold Miser have fabulous song-and-dance numbers, and because it’s the only Christmas special where elves get chewed out for riding a Vixen the wrong way down a one-way street! 😉

YES! That was always my favorite, too 🙂 I was sad to have missed it for a few years, so my husband bought it for me for Christmas the first year we were together. I knew I married the right man 🙂

I MISS THE OLD ANIMATED CHRISTMAS SPECIALS TOO!! My mom taped them when I was a kid (I love you, Mom) and I used to watch them over and over again during summer vacation, so as a result, I remember a lot of them. I am sad that they no longer show on TV.

However, I do also love watching The Sound of Music and It’s a Wonderful Life when they come on TV, even though I own the first on tape (both purchased from the store and pirated off the television, courtesy of my mother) and the second on DVD. There’s just something about watching them when they are broadcast…

Merry Christmas to you, your hub and, and OF COURSE, TABS! I love his list and I hope he gets everything he wants, as I’m sure he deserves everything he wants! The video is so cute, too!
I have several favorite holiday movies…A Christmas Story (the one with Ralphie), Miracle on 34th Street, Home Alone, National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation, among others. I’m a sucker for just about any Christmas movies, though. Just give me a bunch of decorated cookies and a TV and I’m happy.

I used to love to watch Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer every year but I haven’t watched it in a long time. I think I even have the DVD, but I doubt I’ll pull it out this year. Meh. I’m ready for 2010. Ha ha, I guess I’m the grinch this year!

Hi there! I’m Karen, your friendly neighborhood beauty addict, and I’m a Bay Area girl who hoards brown eyeshadow and covets coral lipstick. Every morning, I wake up and say, “I’m going to do something other than a smoky eye today.” Then…I end up doing a smoky eye anyway (most days). When I’m not putting on makeup, taking pictures of makeup or writing about makeup, which I’ve been doing daily since 2007 (!), you’ll find me hanging out with my hubby (“El Hub”), my four-year-old daughter (Connor Claire) and my torbie girl cat (Pretty Girl Rosie, a.k.a.
