G’mornin’ and happy ? Caturday, chica! Did you happen to catch the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show makeup Charlotte Tilbury did?? SO GOOD, BABE. Her PR peeps sent some pics that were taken backstage, and I want this look on my face like meow.
This is one of my favorite makeup looks for so many reasons; I don’t even know where to start because there’s so much good stuff going on. It’s classically timeless. If I had seen this exact same look in a magazine in 2008 or 1999, it would have totally fit in, and it’s just as relevant and wearable today. And I bet it’ll still look good 20 years from now.
First of all, how Charlotte structures the faces? There aren’t any un-blended lines on the lower cheekbones or down the bridge of the nose, contrary to the huge trend on social media. There isn’t any obvious chiseling or sculpting, and hmm… How do I put this? Everyone’s lush, cherubic cheeks look like ripe, round peaches!
And those eyes! I like how the crease and outer third are softly defined, but you can still see the gradients and transitions. Srsly, how exactly does Charlotte do that?? My big struggle when I try to do kind of placement (crease and outer third) is that I don’t know when to stop blending. I’ll get what I think is a good amount of color on my lids, and then I’ll start blending…and keep blending…and blending…and blending…and blending. LOL. Eventually, everything muddles together, and I totally lose the shape (side note: Now you know why I always end up doing smoky eyes, HA HA HA!).
What I’m trying to say is that the subtlety of the blending and crease work in this look is KILLER, but it’s so much harder than it looks!
Also, can we talk about the eyeliner? Again, lots of soft blurring and no harsh edges. I love that you can see it, but it isn’t “in your face” because they’re using something less stark than black.
Charlotte recently posted a tutorial of the makeup she did for the show if you want to try it for yourself.
Kudos to them for not blurring the crap out of the model’s skin in this video, too. It’s so refreshing to see someone with acne on a big beauty brand’s channel. Plus, I like that you really get a sense of what the makeup can do for a real person’s skin.
I have the list of everything Charlotte used, but it’s pretty long. If you want to see it, though, lemme know. I can add it to this post or the comments.
Oh, and Ms. Charlotte, if you ever read this and have a place for a petite 40-something lady with a C-section scar and robust mommy tum, I’m available! 🙂 Get me a push-up bra and a set of wings ASAP. Work your magic on me.
Now for this week’s reading!

Unsurprisingly, one of the ways you can foster friendship and reduce conflict between your cat and dog furbabies involves treats.
Lots and LOTS of treats.

Totally didn’t know this was a thing: Some people who do the keto diet experience bad breath that smells like (wait for it) nail polish remover.
SAY WHAT?

Gonna try this all matte look ASAP!
Hopefully you’re a little more excited to put on some war paint now. ? I’m gonna, even though I’m just going to putter around the house today.
Have a great rest of your weekend!

Treats are definitely a tool to foster interspecies friendship! I would keep dried cherries for Quincy next to the Whisker Lickins for Jiji and give them treats together. Mina also tried to eat carrots with Quincy because I don’t think she knew she wasn’t a bunny or that Quincy wasn’t a kitty. She did like spinach though… Now Jiji and Hettie get treats together all the time.
I love the VS Angels look – it’s timeless.

Good food brings friends together. 🙂 Although I have a feeling Tabs would raise hell if I tried to give his treats to Harris, one of the neighborhood cats who likes to come around and hang out on our deck.
Chelsea says
Ah, yes, I’m familiar with Harris. The hardest critters to get along we’re the two kitty cats, Jiji and Mina. Jiji hissed so hard at Mina once he gave himself a hair ball, LOL
Karen says
Ya know, I keep wanting to think that Harris has good intentions and *wants* to be friends with Tabs because he’s so fluffy and cute, but I’m starting to suspect he’s a thug and comes around solely to torture Tabs!

So many great things to read in this post! Curling up with a cup of tea and reading all…just finished beauty standards and time takes for natural beauty. Wow..as I’m looking at my Charlotte Tilbury Natural pallet and all the steps I take some days for a “secret” natural look!
Watched taking my cat for a walk&Jun cooking Udon…he is an amazing cat dad, always keeping them interested and on the go.

Hi Diana,
I’m so glad you enjoyed this Saturday Surfing. 🙂 I was thinking of springing for this Charlotte Tilbury Palette for the Sephora VIB sale, but now it’s out of stock, AGGHHHHH!
I guess it’s a good thing, because I need a new face cream more than another palette. Sigh.
What else are you up to this weekend?
Lelde says
That’s why Charlotte Tilbury is Charlotte Tilbury! No matter how much she shares her beauty secrets and make-up application videos, she far more knows better when to contour and when – to blend. And that’s what makes her virtuoso. That’s why she is so loved and coveted by beauty and fashion industry.
Karen says
Hi Lelde,
I wish I could just absorb her blending virtuoso through diffusion, LOL! I would be happy just to stand next to her and absorb a tiny bit of her skill. I know you’re a Charlotte Tilbury fan… What are your most-used products from her line? The Sephora VIB sale is happening right now and I’m getting the hankering for something. 🙂
Lelde says
I know, I’m also dreaming on standing next to her just a little moment… My most used CT products are Classic eye pencil in Audrey and Instant Look in a Palette Natural Beauty. I’ve litterally hit the pan of the bronzer and about to hit the pan of “enhance” eyeshadow. It’s just so convenient for me as a mom in a hurry when I have less than 10 min a day to spend for makeup application! But honestly, there are so many other products from her I’d love as much as this palette… I just have only one face to paint at a time?
Brigette says
Oh my goodness, I am swooning over all of the makeup looks Charlotte did. They all look stunning. I totally agree with you when you said that you liked that they didn’t filter the photos, it shows that they are human and still beautiful. 🙂
Erin says
I’d love the list of products used, especially the lips. Always looking for that sort of healthy lip color.

Love Charlotte Tilbury makeup videos! I truly think that Mr. Tom Ford needs to cut her in on some of his profits. Her video tutorials are a big part of why his eyeshadow quads got such HG status in the beauty world imho. Need to check these videos out, I normally ignore Victoria’s Secret stuff, but I am game for anything with Charlotte T. in it. Seriously, if the only tutorials I could watch were Charlotte T. and Lisa Eldridge videos I would be totally fine with that.
Karen says
Lisa’s are so, so good. I love that she always just does her thing! Have you read her book? I’ve had it on my wish list forever…
