Hello, friend! Good morning and happy Independence Day to you! Sending major good vibes for a safe, wonderful weekend. The fam and I are about to head off grid for a brief camping trip, and by “off the grid,” I mean that we’re going car camping to Clear Lake about two hours north, and just south of Mendocino Forest. It’ll be just the few of us, masks coming along too, of course. Fun fact: at 2.5 million years old, Clear Lake is the oldest lake in North America.
Whatever you’re doing this weekend, please stay safe, especially if you’re going to be on the road. A nurse friend once told me that her patients awaiting organ transplants, and their loved ones and caregivers, couldn’t help but think about the possibilities around the Fourth of July weekend due to the number of fatal car accidents… That’s life. So please be careful.

Hi Karen. Have a happy Fourth of July! Stay safe and hope you and your family have fun on your camping trip.
Hi Marcia,
We’re back home now; I had a ton of fun camping! How was your 4th? Did you do anything fun?
Hi Karen,
I just had a relaxing Fourth of July. Didn’t go anywhere. My brother made homemade chili which was delicious. Glad to hear you had a great time.
Any day you get to eat home-cooked chili made by someone else is a good day. 🙂
Have a great rest of your week!
Happy and Safe Fourth of July Camping!
I loved the first beautiful video, too, made me cry. This one, too! Coupled with the new makeup line for men, the idea that people should feel a boost of confidence from a simple compliment or a touch of concealer to look less tired is a BEAUTIFUL thing. 🙂
Hi! How was your 4th?! More importantly, were there bricks of noodles involved in any of your meals on the weekend?
Most definitely! Even threw a couple of local-beef hotdogs on top. With shredded nori and a dash of togarashi shimichi, it was a full-on Asian-American meal LOL
Funnily, the container of noodle pucks resembles blocks of banana bread or super light-colored brownies so I have to check myself every time I walk by the counter!
Happy 4th! I hope you guys have a fun trip. My trainer just got back from Mendocino and said at most they came across one other family.
I think it would be fun to have Sandy Linter do my makeup. It would be interesting to see how someone closer to my age would approach my makeup.
We had a fun trip, although I’m still a little tired and recovering from the adventure. It sure is lot of work to “mom” while you camp. LOL! I miss the days when I could just be the person who showed up. Now I have to do all the meal prep, the planning, the checking off of all the things we need to bring. In the end it’s fun but man! I could use a few extra hours of sleep.
What did you do for the 4th?
All that extra “mom” work is what makes me hate camping. It’s a vacation for everybody else but not for me. Now that I’m old and cranky I can even demand a really nice hotel room. I tell my husband if they don’t have turn down service and don’t leave a chocolate on my pillow it’s camping. Lol.
It was Dear Daughter’s birthday, so she came down to the house. She picked up a meal kit from Cockscomb in SF (because that’s where she usually asks to dine out for her birthday) and I cooked the steaks while she mixed the cocktails. We watched “Hamilton” on Disney+. Wasn’t sure what to expect, but I loved it.
Happy belated birthday to your daughter (and happy mom-iversary to you!). Sounds like you guys had a great time.
We’re currently watching Hamilton on Disney+ too; it has literally taken me DAYS. lol
Mom-iversary! Ha, I love that. I literally looked at Dear Husband and asked him to figure out the time difference between us and The Netherlands. He was so confused until I reminded him that she was born at 12:15 there.
I could rewatch Hamilton! We went for a drive today and listened to the soundtrack in the car and talked about it again. Dear Husband is a history buff and said they got the history part down pat. We are in awe of the lyrics and music that makes history so much more inviting.
