Every once in a while, I get this crazy hankering to do things like wear every single blush in my collection.
Not all at once, mind you (although that would be kinda fun) — but one blush per day. Or, to try on every single lipstick I own.
OMG. Like, how long would this actually take me? I’ve been trying to do the math, and I estimate it would take roughly FOR-EV-ER.
Yeah, I’m still cleaning out my makeup drawers, but I’m seriously considering doing the blush thing, even if it’s just to make my way through my MAC blushes…and maybe NARS…and I’m realizing right now that homegirl’s got a thing for warm peachy coral blush. It’s PRETTY obvious when I see them all together, HA HA HA!
Have you ever tried something like this? — using every lip product or blush in your makeup collection? I think it could be quite fun and weirdly satisfying in an OCD way.
In today’s news, I’ll be chipping away at Marie Kondo-ing my makeup today, among doing other things, including prepping the condo for the work that starts next week.
About that, none of it is terribly exciting work at this point. I *wish* it was the fun stuff, but it’s just repairs to the house guts. A new water heater, new furnace, and a new air conditioner, because NONE of them work correctly. The work needs to happen (especially the furnace replacement before it cools down in fall), but they aren’t aesthetically sexy home projects.
Lord knows how I’m going to be able to write with people clanging all up in our pipes and sh*t, but I’ll try!
I may post a lotta lists next week…
As for this weekend’s actual Caturday surfing, here are some tidbits and factoids that caught my eye. I hope you find them interesting, too. 😊
- Did you know that for the ancient Greeks and Romans, a unibrow was *THE* ultimate of all #browgoals, and was associated with the most desirable and intelligent women? This post plucks out (ha ha) the most interesting fun facts about the history of eyebrows.
- So, El Hub and I took Connor to watch The Lion King last weekend, and one of the movie previews was for the new Cats movie. After it played, we just sat there looking at each other wondering, “WTF just happened?” I’ve never seen the musical… All I know about Cats is the Memory song, which I remember being major in the ’80s, and that the characters are a bunch of 🐱 felines, but the trailer was weird as hell, and I don’t know if it’s meant to be intentionally campy, or if you’re supposed to take it seriously. I was…and still am… very confused. As a bonafide CCL, I feel like I should be down with a Cats movie, but I dunno, man. (I put the trailer down below.)
- HOORAY! New York is the first state in the nation to ban declawing cats. Let’s hope the other 49 follow suit.
- Here’s how to pet a cat, according to science. 👩🔬❤️🐈
- According to some experts, the K-beauty 10-step skin care routine is a myth perpetuated by marketing, and Korean beauty enthusiasts don’t use nearly as many skin care products as we’re led to believe.
- Looking for a way to start a four-alarm blaze in your wallet? Well, Tom Ford’s launching skin care soon…with a $350 serum and a $450 cream, and that’s just for starters.
- Woo-hoo! — I see my fave Bliss blue wax on this list of the best waxing products for at-home hair removal.
- Entrepreneurial scientists are currently engaged in a global arms race to generate sustainable hair follicles that will hold their shape, and whoever finds it first could render hair loss obsolete (for the very wealthy, at least).
- A friendly reminder to unplug your heated hair devices, especially flat irons
My obsession with Sir John is real, people.
SO. REAL.
Seriously, so weird
The original shake shack!

I just started cooking my eggs like this, and my life is forever changed, #blessed.
Have a great weekend, friend!
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen
Cats trailer is creepy af, but I do want to see The Lion King.
Thanks for the how to pee a cat article! I think my cat petting game is on point but I’m always open to tips.
We’re on vacation in Montréal and Hettie is staying with my parents and learned her lesson about trying to play with Angus the black and white floof – she got smacked and now walks very far around him 😹 But she is getting along with my parents’ dog and the other kitties.
My friend Kelly is checking in on Jiji who is doing well. We had to help her 16 year old marmie girl TJ across the rainbow bridge this week – she still has TJ’s bio sister Callie and another older cat named Zoey. Kelly was the first to see TJ out of the womb 😿 She went peacefully.
I haven’t seen any Montréal cats but Zack got to pet one outside the tattoo parlor where he went yesterday, but did not provide enough details 😤 Said it was grey.
How to pee a cat, what a typo 😹
The Cats trailer looks incredibly weird and I’m here for it. I’m not a musical fan at all (maybe even a foe) but I’m so going to see this mess (ahem, masterpiece). On a Tom Ford note, I feel like he needs to step away from beauty. I used to really like the makeup, but lately it’s been a string of misses for me so that’s a hard pass.
The Korean skin care regimen doesn’t surprise me as a scam. Anything to market something and make money. What does your face possibly need that’s 10 steps!? Cleanse, tone, serum, moisturizer and maybe eye cream at most. Less is probably more, even if the products are natural. And yes, that cats trailer is very … odd. Like I’m watching some alternate reality where humanity is a blend with feline and distinct theatrical focus for everyday life. Hmm. Probably won’t watch but I’d love to see my boyfriends face if I showed him the trailer 🤣
Cats is a great play! However, that trailer looked super weird. I’ll probably still see it since I’m a big fan of the musical, but I feel like they’re trying way too hard to make the movie interesting and it’s just going to be totally odd haha.
Cats even in the 80s was out there and mocked tremendously. Good music or not but js it was always strange so not surprised by this trailer. I’ll probably still see it though lol
The “Cats” trailer is seriously creepy. I hope that they improve the CGI in the final cut of the movie. I don’t know why the makers thought they needed to CGI the looks of the characters at all. Why the hell did they make Jennifer Hudson/Grizabella look so ugly? JH is very pretty, and Grizabella is supposed to be an ex-glamour cat. The cast seems very good, at least. I won’t be seeing this in the movie theater, but I’d watch it out of curiosity if it comes to Netflix or something.
My older son was obsessed with “Cats” when he was little. I had to buy him a copy of the Broadway show and he watched it constantly. His favorites were Macavity and Mr. Mistoffelees.
You could try the Lisa Eldridge Watercolor Blush thing; I know you’re a fan of her’s. 😉
Yeah, I’ve seen Cats the musical and they should just *in disciplinarian dog-owner voice* LEAVE IT. Co-sign on the creepy vibe of the trailer. Not sure I’m on board with all of the “let’s make everything into a live-action” or vice versa movie trend. :/
Notwithstanding, Happy Weekend, KMBB!
Oh, Lord Andrew Lloyd Webber. You are so talented, but sometimes you are so extra. “No”, I say. “No” to the freakish, all-singing, non-speaking cats. And leave T.S. Eliot alone from now on. (Although isn’t Jennifer Hudson just Killing. It. on Memory?!?!)
Also “no” to Tom Ford’s over-priced skincare products. “No” to Tom Ford in general. That ego….
I’d like to know what they said to Idris Alba for him to do Cats. For him alone I’d watch it. I’m intrigued by all the star power in this so I’ll watch it when it comes to cable or Redbox. I saw the play in the 90’s and thought it was so bizarre, but now that I’m older I’m sure it will make sense.🤦🏼♀️
Sorry, but those eggs look half-cooked to me. I wouldn’t risk getting salmonella or something from that. I’d recommend putting a food thermometer in that to make sure it’s heated enough to be safe.
I’ll probably watch the “Cats” movie when the library gets it on Blu-ray. It looks like it might be good for a few laughs. It is true that the musical was mercilessly made fun of by almost everyone for several years after it arrived on Broadway.
The Tom Ford pricing is insane, but the one-percenters out there deserve to be ripped off. If they choose to waste their money like that, I don’t have any sympathy for them.
Played hooky with Dear Husband yesterday and saw a matinee of The Lion King.
My daughter showed me the CATS trailer the day it came out. Creepy as all get out. Why do they have cat hair all over their bodies but human faces and human hands. Still I’d go see the movie to just see if that “WTF have I gotten myself into” look remains on Idris Elba’s face throughout all his scenes.
I wondered the same thing about the human hands, LOL! Goodness it is so weird!
P.S. What did you think of the movie?
Lion King was good. I liked the original animated movie just a tad more. Dear Husband likes this version a bit more.
It’s interesting to me that Disney is doing all of these live action films. I went into this one thinking I wouldn’t like it as much (because I’m a fan of the original as well), but I quite enjoyed it.
Oh, and we’ve been singing Hakuna Matata non-stop…
Hakuna Matata…. Love that song. I love how Disney slipped in the little bit of “Be Our Guest” from Beauty and The Beast.
Dear Daughter won’t see this version because Lion King is her all time favorite Disney animated movie. She even took the DVD to college with her.
Question, how did Connor handle the stampede and scenes immediately after that? I have a friend who has a 7/8 yr. old boy and she doesn’t think he’ll be able to handle those scenes so she’s not taking him to see Lion King.
I want to see the live version of Aladdin and I’m really looking forward to seeing the live version of Mulan.
Ok, that skincare (TF) is a little ridiculous. What a joke. Clearly it’s going to contain the nectar of the Gods and give me a whole new set of skin cells for that price. 🙄 That is maddening. But I won’t pay that ever and I have no doubt I’m not missing anything at all except a brand name.
I have never believed that Korean women use a 10 step process (or even 7) in their skin care routine LOL. No one in their right mind, or with any sort of life, has that much time or energy 😄
How did Connor Like the movie? My son is 3 and a half and I doubt He can follow the whole Story.
Hi Silvia,
She was able to sit through it just fine, but there were a few moments that were intense and I had to hug her and tell her it was going to be OK. We went to a 4:00 pm showing on a Friday and there were a lot of young kids and their parents, so she was able to make a little bit of noise whenever she needed to. I’d suggest going to either a early afternoon movie or an early morning one.
It sounds like our babies are similar in age! Connor was born in March. 🙂
Miguel was Born in Dezember 2015. He is German but half Filipino and half bolivian.
Ours are very close in age! Connor is March 2016. She’s half Filipino and a bunch of other things (mostly Portuguese, but also French and Irish).
Toddlers are fun, aren’t they?
I’m about to start a no pan left behind challenge on Instagram, to try all of my eyeshadow pans in my collection. There’s a whole tag on it on Instagram, it’s a great community. It will be challenging, I need the weekend to prep for it 😅
